Mine dies after 1e of the installation, it gives the little circle with the seat belt across it. A message of 'System config file apple boot plist '(or something that uses those words because it goes by so fast) flashes across the screen really fast after it boots from the Boot 132 CD and before the screeen where you hit your first return.

Once in a great while it will go through but bricks the screen because of my video card I think.

In a bizarre coincidence, I'm having a similar weird issue. I had it installed and working, no problems, but needed to erase it to get Vista installed for the wife quickly, thinking I'd just re-install. Now, when I follow the exact same procedure that worked last time, I also get that "System config file apple boot plis" message that flashes by before I can try to boot osx with boot 132. When I attempt to boot osx, it just sits on the white screen with the apple logo, the dvd drive doesn't even try to load it. Like I said, it's weird because I haven't changed anything.

Could be it be something residual on the hard drive being detected?

I believe that you have taken out JMicron.kext due to kernel panics. Because I am unable to upgrade to a SATA DVD Drive (my current IDE one works/boots perfectly normally), would it be possible for me to put that kext back into the boot-132 CD and follow your guide? I am fine with kernel panics and I haven't had any yet due to that kext (I had some because of my old video card though).

If I remember correctly, the issue with the JMicron.kext is a conflict with systems having over 2 gigs of RAM- I may be wrong. My system has had 70+ days of uptime with 2 gigs of ram + 2 IDE drives via the JMicron.kext but crashes within minutes if I put 4 gigs in. I would like to keep my 750 gigs of IDE drives in service too so any insight regarding the No IDE requirement of this guide would be helpful.

IDE-to-SATA adapters or USB enclosures. I still haven't come across a good IDE driver yet.

Hey, Weaksauce!

Here´s the same problem with 10.5.6 and my new-hacked Quadro FX.

How do you fixed it? Change the NV-Bios back to normal 8800Gtx?

My old Zotac 8800GT 512MB Amp!Edition works fine with EFI-String and 10.5.6?!

That´s the reason why i did´t spend a thought of yours and the resulting boot error.

Vista don´t like the Quadro FX too. I could start Vista only in Safemode. Normal mode gives me blue screen.

;)

So i switched back to my 8800GT.... for now!

I wish you a merry christmas...

Keep it as an 8800 - changing the ROM will not give you more power, the Quadro isn't expensive because it's great, it's expensive because it is special purpose. It's designed with enhanced accuracy in certain routines for CAD/CAM/Medical imaging work. The 8800 is probably best for overall compatibility.

The Windows Nvidia driver can detect the hack and disable it, but on Mac we're using hacked drivers, so that's why we've been good for 5 point releases. Ah well, glory days are over. I don't want to hack up my system with more old kexts than I need to, just to use the video card, so it's back to the 8800GTX for me :P

Plus I can finally use it to play video games in Windows! Whoohoo! :P

Has anyone had this problem after flashing with @bios:

Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0

Copyright blah blah

Scanning BIOS image in Hard Drive.

stuck there, and cant get any further :/

Which BIOS did you use? How did you install it? Did you pop out the CMOS battery to try resetting it?

So I finally got sleep working by installing the F8 bios on my p35.

Even with natit runnig on my 2600 pro

I also reinstalled the combo update and added the dsdt.aml to my hd

So I know have a perfect hackingt0sh!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll try this out later today.

Have you (or anyone else) tried DVDPlayer.app?

It's a complete failure for me.. bizarre error message at launch. VLC has no problem playing a DVD and even passing audio through optical connection.

Regarding my issue with doing a re-install and having it freeze up. After doing a -v on boot, it looks like a kernel panic with the micron controller that the installer is using. The good news is that it doesn't happen 100% of the time, so if it fails, you can just try a few more times and it will work. Once it's installed, no such issue.

Hi guys,

Newbie here. First build was >$250 mac on this forum which went well.

Anyhoo, on my second build, I'm currently running on weaksauce's manual using P35-DS3L vid card Geforce 8600 GT 256mb and SATA stuff. I successfully updated up to 10.5.6 as of yesterday morning and running great but the weird thing is I can't install the "Additional Kext on Uinstaller. Each time I run that installation, my build goes to a black screen with mouse pointer image stuck on top left of the screen after reboot. When I do the boot 132 boot to try booting up second time, it does boot to the screen BUT top menu is totally black AND applications won't start (including System preference). It gives me an error failed to start! This happens both on 10.5.5 and 10.5.6. What is the purpose of the additional Kext?? is it really necessary to find a way to install it?? so far, no other issues other than non functional sleep. btw, I'm running F7 bios. I'm guessing it's a video driver conflict or something. I'm not computer technology savvy so pls help in layman's term.

Thanks in advance! Im loving this build. weaksauce did great job with the manual!

What additional kext are you talking about?

Did you combo update to 10.5.6? or did you use software update?

Finally I got why Temperature monitor didn't display my CPU core temperatures.

The answer is in the Temperature Monitor page: http://www.bresink.de/osx/0TemperatureMonitor/issues.html

here is the specific issue:

"I don't see any core temperature sensors for my Intel-based Mac although I have installed the driver for extended x86 sensor support. The sensors have been visible in version 4.4 of the application and on my older Intel-based systems. Is this a problem with the program?

No, this indicates that your system is equipped with the third generation of Intel Core processors, using 45 nm technology"

and it is fixed with:

defaults write com.bresink.system.tempmonitor EnableCoreTempReadingsForCPU10670 1

are you sure qe is enabled?

what video card do you have

yep... 2600xt. just solved the problem- my dvdplayer.app file was garbage? replaced it with copy form my macbook and now eevrything is fine.

i upgraded to F8 and sleep works... sort of. it goes to sleep and it wakes up, but upon rewaking my bluetooth keyboard/mouse won't respond. i turned my mouse off and on and it became responsive, but i couldn't click on anything- the machine was essentially frozen but the mouse was able to move. keyboard (even wired) did nothing. very bizarre.. Once upon a time I had sleep working with exception of the ethernet woes.

I'm also having the weird moving diagonal lines show up on certain colors. it's not noticeable when connected to my HDTV but very evident on my 22" LCD. How did you go about installing your 2600? I simply copied the natit kext in and rebooted. no strings or edits. did you do anything different?

Suggestions appreciated :(

Weaksauce- sorry about the vaporware comment, was just going nuts waiting for this because my hacky had died and i kept putting off fixing it for your guide. It's delightful booting up in verbose mode and not seeing any of the 2340 warning messages that crept up with kalyway method

oh and merry xmas everyone
