Yes, I have tried the rear usb.

 

I don't know whats wrong....

 

I've tried reinstalling itunes, does not work. The itunes helper service is running.

 

Possibly try re-installing from scratch. If you do, try plugging in your iPod before updating to 10.5.5 and see if it picks it up...

 

Hey Vis, I got a Microsoft 6000 Wireless for $28 at Office Depot, it is wireless but plugs the keyboard in by USB and the mouse by PS2.

 

So you get wireless with sleep wake up... Yippee it also has all convenience keys so the gadgets all work and the keyboard synchs to itunes and the one touch browser..

 

I think the PS/2 is optional...I had an older version of that with the pod-receiver that had a USB & PS/2...took me like 6 months to realize that I didn't need the PS/2 plugged in - the USB plug handled both! lol.

 

Almost flawless for me. Two small issues (really, one).

 

When I first installed the sound, I only had sound out of one speaker. After about 2-3 minutes and switching back and forth between line our and headphones, both worked. No biggie.

 

Second, I have no ps2 keyboard. Had to break out an old mac usb keyboard (soft keys!). Any ideas on how to enable my ps2 keyboard?

 

Updated to 10.5.6 with zero issues other than having to re-install the sound, which takes about 2 seconds.

 

Excellent work, sets the standard in guides.

 

1. I'll have to check out the PS/2 thing. I tested it extensively to make sure that it worked properly, but I also did a fair amount of editing since then, so maybe I removed something that was supposed to be in there. Hmm.

 

2. How did you update to 10.5.6? Software Update? Combo Update? Perhaps I was just having problems due to the Apple download bug early on.

Arethere currently any benefits in patching the dsdt (besides cosmetic fixes in the system profiler)?

 

DSDT is apparently unneeded and thus unnecessary.

 

DSDT does not fix the cosmetic issues, AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext does.

 

HI WeakSauce, thanks for your awesome guide, I can confirm that your guide works great on my GA-EP35-DS3L, Only problems I had was with my gfx card a GeCube 3850 512mb which I fixed using the EFI_STUDIO_MODIFIED with MEGALODON framebuffer method.

 

I also managed to "upgrade" to 10.5.6, using the IntelCPU disabler, the DSDT thingy and by installing EFI V9 as explained by Netkas (netkas.org), only problem with 10.5.6 is that sleep has this random problem with the DVD, where the screen goes blank, the drives switch off but the DVD hangs for few minutes before going to sleep or sometimes doesn't go asleep at all, just hangs and the only solution seems to be to power the machine off.

 

So, I am going to wait for your new guide and start from scratch.

 

Just an off-topic question not just for you but for all the guys on the board: I have installed OSX on a separate drive, is there any reliable BOOT selector that I can use at boot in order to choose between Vista and OSX?

1. Correct, the 3850 currently isn't supported OOTB with EFI Strings in Uinstaller. You'll need a separate driver for that.

 

2. Which IntelCPU disabler did you use? My package has the CPUPM disabler kext already in it. Also, which method did you use to update to 10.5.6 - Combo update, Software Update...?

 

3. Just hit the boot selector key at POST to enable the HDD boot selector from Gigabyte, it's F10 or F12 or something. Brings up a menu - select HDD, then which drive to boot from. Easy as pie.

I just redid my setup using this great guide. The only thing I can see right now that is not perfect is that I need to always boot by system with the -f option or I get graphics problems. The desktop screen does not draw itself properly (lots of black areas); it gets updated correctly when an area is forced to redraw itself, like when I drag a finder window around, but everything related to graphics is so slow... the system is having a hard time keeping up redrawing a finder window being moved around, or refreshing a window that is being scrolled.

 

If I boot with -f, no problem... until the next reboot. I tried to do this:

 

rm -r /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

rm -r /System/Library/Caches

touch Extensions

 

and then reboot; I get the "Updating Boot Caches" dialog, but I still need to provide the -f boot option for everything to work correctly.

 

I guess it might be related to my video card, which is a cheapy 8400 GS 256 MB.

 

Any ideas? Worst case is that I find a way to setup the bootloader to automatically pass -f as a boot option. I would assume this is possible but I have not researched how to do this yet.

 

Sounds like a video card bug. Do you have another card available? Or perhaps try out a different driver than the EFI String in Uinstaller.

It's booting my stripped retail dvd right now. (Too cheap to buy a DL, so I removed all the language packages)

 

Stripped DVD? That could be the problem...perhaps a necessary component got cut.

I am using 10.5.4 retail. I did the EFI String for Video after install but before first boot.

 

Anyways I have downloaded an app called SwitchResX. I used it once, set the right setting, and removed the app (shareware).

 

It now works great.

 

Sleep works great for me btw.

Have a 1900 & 2600, both of which I got to test TV out with my Apple DVI-to-Video adapter. It's on my To Do list. Haven't touched either one yet :P

 

mac os x recognizes it on first boot.

Regarding the update to 10.5.6, I just did a combo update. I'm pretty sure a normal update would work as well, but who knows. The only thing I did before the update was taken from this guide:

Nutshell, I went through, did what I thought made sense (It think some of those steps might be duplicated work if you install using your guide) and did a combo. No problems.

Questions about Uinstaller...

 

Is the hard drive you select EFI Volume or the Main Volume?

 

When I use the Chameleon I get a boot0:GPT Boot0:HFS+ ... boot:0 error. Is this because the EFI partition is not active?

 

I am dual booting with Vista Ultimate x64...

I couldn't wait on your ep45 setup so i rolled my own (give a guy a toy and make him just look at it!?! :^). I did it the night before your package came out and had the EFI (munky) setup going just as I believe you do it. I was just missing one thing - my graphics were not recognized as accelerated (cheap old 7900gs-256). I ran your UInstaller and it fixed the graphics and I let it go through the whole process. I don't think you overwrote my EFI partition (guessing you just added to it effectively) as everything still works wonderfully (including sleep).

 

If I can help with your ep45 package I am happy to (testing or info). PM me for my email or just let me know if/how you want to handle it.

 

I do have the audio pop VERY occasionally, but it bugs me so little I haven't even bothered to look for the fix (although I know it is out there). I don't believe I have the ethernet issues you mentioned (Bonjour works and traffic flows immediately after awakening from sleep).

 

HDs work on the Intel and Gigabyte leads. I installed with my sata DVD on the 4th lead (labelled number 3) fwiw.

 

One killer thing (although in doing some cursory research it doesn't look possible) would be to get the ICH10R raid working (or the gigabyte for that matter). That would just make my week :^)

 

I haven't yet updated to 10.5.6 as I have such a nice working system, I would hate to bugger it up.

The guide comes with a zip of all necessary kexts.

It will never work. Intel RAID is really just Software RAID built into the Hardware, from what I understand. So it's quasi-RAID. Just get a good Acera or HighPoint RAID card and call it done!

I'm re-downloading the Combo update. It has to be the only explanation - when I downloaded the Combo Update, the Delta Update, and the update from Software Update, it had to have been the bad copies that went out initially. That's the ONLY thing I can think of!

10.5.6 is compatible and does not require DSDT

 

I re-downloaded the Combo Update. Still no dice. Couldn't figure it out. Thought about it all morning until it dawned on me...I had never changed my video card (8800GTX modded into a Quadro). I had no reason to ever suspect it, and it has NEVER given me problems thanks to EFI Strings - even works perfectly on 10.5.0. But as I got to thinking, I realized it was the only thing I hadn't changed - the only card I had never swapped out, the only piece of hardware that had remained the constant in all of my 10.5.6 testing. So...I didn't check the video card box and updated to 10.5.6. Voila. Checked the video card box and rebooted, instant Kernel Panic.

 

I KNEW IT WAS SOMETHING SIMPLE AND STUPID!!! :D

 

Working on the 10.5.6 guide update! All is right with the world now. I'll have to dye my gray hairs back to brown again. Oye! lol. I feel like a moron...never even thought to check the video card driver because it's never, ever been an issue. Had a box full of spare cards sitting right next to me and it never occurred to me to swap one out, just for kicks. ARGGGG!

I know there are extra kexts in there. I don't know my way around stuff well enough to weed all the extra ones out. And I'm not sure if the installation of chameleon is necessary, but it seemed like when I skipped that step (while follow your guide during my second attempt), it made things break a bit more. But that easily could have been due to causes other than chameleon's absence.

Yeah I see how your package works, I'm tweaking it with mine. I think it's ICH10 that's causing the freezes. More testing! :D

Well there's different types of Software RAID and different types of RAID. The two classifications are (1) software and (2) hardware. Hardware is better, but more expensive. Software is more common. Some motherboards come with onboard RAID, which from what I understand is really just Intel Software RAID built into the motherboard, which is why it's not supported. Apple Software RAID, using Disk Utility, is definitely supported (and works VERY well!). It's a matter of the specific application. Basically what it boils down to is no one has a working driver for onboard motherboard RAID, besides which onboard motherboard RAID is usually supposed to be pretty crappy anyway. The only thing you really need hardware RAID for is if you want a bootable RAID array (I haven't had any luck doing bootable Software RAID with the new Chameleon, despite their instructions), or for a large array with RAID 5 or RAID 6 or something.

 

So if it's for a couple drives as a seconary array, just use Disk Utility to fire up some Apple Software RAID :)

I believe that you have taken out JMicron.kext due to kernel panics. Because I am unable to upgrade to a SATA DVD Drive (my current IDE one works/boots perfectly normally), would it be possible for me to put that kext back into the boot-132 CD and follow your guide? I am fine with kernel panics and I haven't had any yet due to that kext (I had some because of my old video card though).

Mine dies after 1e of the installation, it gives the little circle with the seat belt across it. A message of 'System config file apple boot plist '(or something that uses those words because it goes by so fast) flashes across the screen really fast after it boots from the Boot 132 CD and before the screeen where you hit your first return.

 

Once in a great while it will go through but bricks the screen because of my video card I think.
