so i did it a bit backwards... instead of running the uinstaller then update.. i did it the other way around.. and now i'm able to boot up... ran update.. then uinstaller with the video string checked off

i am now running all the updates except for 10.5.6 .. hopefully everything will work if i keep chugging through the guide.. *crosses fingers*

Interesting, did you simply use the BootCD to boot up after installing the 10.5.5 update?

not exactly.. i forgot to add one thing.. i ran the uinstaller first to see if it was the update or the uinstaller that was causing my problem...

so i rebooted after the first time i did it with the uinstaller ... and it booted fine with out the boot cd... then i installed the update.. and then before rebooting.. i ran the uinstaller... so i dunno what i did causes any problems or not.. but i'm running ok so far..

Swapping out my board tomorrow, if I don't make much progress then I'll just PM you the plugin as-is.

Woot. I got the EP45-UD3P working! I may have used more kexts than necessary.

Do you have even the slightest rough draft of the developers guide? I just need to know where to put my kexts into your plugin setup. I want to release this as a plugin if possible (even though I know you'll be doing the same thing). At the very least it'll save you some time when you have to do it.

So yeah... I'm going to try to assembla a plugin, then reinstall and see if it works.

The only questions I have are:

1) Where do I put the kexts that are necessary

2) Do I need a boot.plist to be included? Or a DSTD thingy? I'm not sure how to generate those if they're necessary for a plugin.

EDIT: Scratch that. I found two posts where you outline the steps well enough for me to figure it out. I'll keep you updated on how things go.

I found the plugin maker (wasn't expecting it in the menu bar of Uinstaller). My last question is about the difference between the kexts you add through "Add Custom Kext Package" and the "Extensions.mkext file". Which of these get applied where? Does the kext package go into PC_EFI and the extensions.mkext go /System/Library/Extensions or something?

And one final question if you don't mind? When I go into the standard OSx86 tools and add click "install kexts" is that the equivalent of the "kext package" or "extensions.mkext".

I have all the kexts necessary, I'm just not sure how to map them into your plugin creator.

Thanks!

Hi Weaksauce,

About the HD installation method - I have 2 partitions on my SATA HDD for OSX86. My Kaly 10.5.4 installation is on the first partition; can I use it to do the Retail Install on the second partition? (I would do that as a test.) If so, then wouldn't I need to install the bootloader in the root directory of the Retail Install? Would that be a conflict with the bootloader that currently loads the Kaly 10.5.4 installation?

Thanks!!

basically im using the final draft version and it works without any issues, even the update from software update worked. No kernel panics or whatsoever. Used VMware fusion and parallels all worked.

I just disabled IDE controller in the BIOS since im not using IDE drives anymore.

There are some BIOS settings that im not following as per your guide. Like for example "SATA Port0-1 Native Mode" i put it to enable but as per your guide it says it must be disabled. But so far no issues here.

My hardware overview did not list the CPU features, please look at the screenshot:

hardwaregs3.th.png

I believe this must be a cosmetic issue.

And secondly in the "About This Mac" dialog box the startup disk is not listed. Some who own real macs also had this issue so guess im not alone here. Here is the screenshot:

aboutmackv2.th.png

Let me know if the cosmetic issue can be resolved..

Thank you.

just followed the PDF on a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3R, EVGA GeForce 8600 GTS 256MB. everything is working great at 10.5.5

I had to use 2 extra kext to get the Realtek ALC889A working, 1 to get the sound, the other to fix the sound pop issue.

Thanks for the great guide

Hi everyone,

Just did a fresh install using the Weaksauces Perfect Boot132 (Retail 10.5.5) method. Went with the HDD method (Q6600, EVGA 8800GT 512mb, EP35-DS3L Bios v4, SATA everything). Everything works except for proper video output.

My main display (Maxent mx-42xm11) has resolution support of 1024x768. When OS X attempts to go into GUI the display blanks out and says DVI - No Support. I suspect OSX is throwing out wrong resolution for this display.

Now here is the burn. Plugging in a second monitor (just some LCD have handy) allows me to tell the TV to display at 1024x768 and use it as the main screen. Disconnecting the second LCD results in the TV blanking out with error (DVI no support).

Right now I have TV plugged in to port 1 of the video card (EVGA 8800GT 512mb). The second LCD is plugged into the second port.

I am able to use the display in WinXP/BIOS/preboot (Anything before it hits up OSX GUI). I am able to see the loading of OSX (apple logo on grey).

I have tried "Graphics Mode"="1024x768x32@60" with no success.

Any ideas?

thank you,

~dpc

Can you upload the two kexts you used? I'm having trouble with sound on a similar board as we speak.

to everyone who used this guide:

does sleep work for you?

Hey nintenno,

I have a P35 DS3L running perfectly, sleep works and wakes from touching any key or pwr button.

I installed using the hard drive method, I did have an issue where I messed up but running the Uninstall again and loading audio cleaned it up perfectly.

I noticed on my old build I screed up a few weeks ago and left (Let apple load important security patches checked) then one day sleep did not work and I had issues shutting down...

Never going to make that error again took an hour to fix it..

"Weaksause this guide is better than the first..."

If you go back to Page 66 Weaksause covers your Issue... This sounds like a nightmare I had for months on my first HackinTosh with a 7600GT, first build worked fine, second lost graphix.. this went on for months.. I finally gave up ad bought a new 8600 card..

Oh there is one thing I left out of the guide...some Video Cards are NOT compatible with Leopard until after 10.5.2, such as the Nvidia 8800 GT. What this means to you depends on which Leopard disc you have. There are 3 Leopard DVDs right now:

1.) 10.5.0

2.) 10.5.1

3.) 10.5.4

You only have to worry about this if (1) you have a video card that isn't compatible until after 10.5.2, and (2) if you have a 10.5.0 or 10.5.1 Leopard disc. If you meet these requirements, the solution is simple: don't check the Video Card driver box in Uinstaller when installing. Wait until after you've updated to 10.5.5, THEN install your Video Card. Simple. I don't have a complete list of what is supported in the 10.5.2 update, but I know it includes the 8800 GS, 8800 GT, and 8800 GTS 512mb video cards by Nvidia.

I used a 8500GTS 512mb for this new vanilla build, (I used the driver for the 8600GTS for the old Kalyway Build).

My two cents following Weaksauses guide would be to use a retail 10.5.4 disk or change cards.

I have an 8800GTS 512 (Alphadog) I will load up tomorrow for you an see if it works if ya want..Just PM me if you want me to test it..

Thanks for the reply.

I am using 10.5.4 retail. I did the EFI String for Video after install but before first boot.

Anyways I have downloaded an app called SwitchResX. I used it once, set the right setting, and removed the app (shareware).

It now works great.

Sleep works great for me btw.

Thanks,

HI WeakSauce, thanks for your awesome guide, I can confirm that your guide works great on my GA-EP35-DS3L, Only problems I had was with my gfx card a GeCube 3850 512mb which I fixed using the EFI_STUDIO_MODIFIED with MEGALODON framebuffer method.

I also managed to "upgrade" to 10.5.6, using the IntelCPU disabler, the DSDT thingy and by installing EFI V9 as explained by Netkas (netkas.org), only problem with 10.5.6 is that sleep has this random problem with the DVD, where the screen goes blank, the drives switch off but the DVD hangs for few minutes before going to sleep or sometimes doesn't go asleep at all, just hangs and the only solution seems to be to power the machine off.

So, I am going to wait for your new guide and start from scratch.

Just an off-topic question not just for you but for all the guys on the board: I have installed OSX on a separate drive, is there any reliable BOOT selector that I can use at boot in order to choose between Vista and OSX?

thanks.

For anyone experiencing really slow slow SMB speed read this:

http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?sto...2&lsrc=osxh

I have a FreeNAS setup and the SMB performance sucked really bad in OS X (fine in Windows). You will need to create the file he mentions in the link above and paste that piece of code in.

Anyone with a little bit more info on the topic feel free to correct me.

thanks

I just want to add another thank you weaksauce! I really do appreciate all the hard work and dedication you;ve put in this guide. It's a very easy read and it's made me a lot more comfortable in building my system once all my parts come in.

Thanks again!

I just redid my setup using this great guide. The only thing I can see right now that is not perfect is that I need to always boot by system with the -f option or I get graphics problems. The desktop screen does not draw itself properly (lots of black areas); it gets updated correctly when an area is forced to redraw itself, like when I drag a finder window around, but everything related to graphics is so slow... the system is having a hard time keeping up redrawing a finder window being moved around, or refreshing a window that is being scrolled.

If I boot with -f, no problem... until the next reboot. I tried to do this:

rm -r /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

rm -r /System/Library/Caches

touch Extensions

and then reboot; I get the "Updating Boot Caches" dialog, but I still need to provide the -f boot option for everything to work correctly.

I guess it might be related to my video card, which is a cheapy 8400 GS 256 MB.

Any ideas? Worst case is that I find a way to setup the bootloader to automatically pass -f as a boot option. I would assume this is possible but I have not researched how to do this yet.

Almost flawless for me. Two small issues (really, one).

When I first installed the sound, I only had sound out of one speaker. After about 2-3 minutes and switching back and forth between line our and headphones, both worked. No biggie.

Second, I have no ps2 keyboard. Had to break out an old mac usb keyboard (soft keys!). Any ideas on how to enable my ps2 keyboard?

Updated to 10.5.6 with zero issues other than having to re-install the sound, which takes about 2 seconds.

Excellent work, sets the standard in guides.

Hey Vis, I got a Microsoft 6000 Wireless for $28 at Office Depot, it is wireless but plugs the keyboard in by USB and the mouse by PS2.

So you get wireless with sleep wake up... Yippee it also has all convenience keys so the gadgets all work and the keyboard synchs to itunes and the one touch browser..
