cybland
Oh, that package lets me change the resolution . I'm glad that you have at least one problem fixed. What about mouse freeze in Safari 4?
drumthrasher109
I'm glad that you have at least one problem fixed. What about mouse freeze in Safari 4? Nope, not yet. The only thing I could think of that could be causing it is a slight overheating problem. I'm still afraid to flash the card...maybe someone will be willing to connect to my computer to do it for me (through TeamViewer)?
Sabr
Just an update - I've tried sleep. I have my power settings set to S3 in the BIOS. Going in to sleep is not a problem - but when waking up I am presented with my desktop with lots of display errors (lots of pixels are messed/jumbled up). Also - putting the display to sleep (under the Energy Saver settings): when waking it up I get a "Out of range" error on my monitor and then I'm forced to restart... Nope, not yet. The only thing I could think of that could be causing it is a slight overheating problem. I'm still afraid to flash the card...maybe someone will be willing to connect to my computer to do it for me (through TeamViewer)? lol... Which way do you want to flash your card? Through RBE under Windows XP or using atiflash and a bootable DOS prompt (RBE is easier). There's adequate documentation for each if you are stuck... scottylans
So there will be 4870 official support from apple soon, does this mean dual -dvi monitors will work with sleep mode in the upcoming months?

Drumthrasher if you are really set on flashing your VGA bios you should do it locally, it's safer that way. Just try RBE - Radeon BIOS Editor as Sabr suggested. You can consult RBE's forum here if you have any doubts. On other hand, if I'm not mistaken, Natit.kext with HD4850 BIOS already gives you same thing as flashed card and Natit.kext without bios image. Does anyone know where I could find some info/guide on converting and inserting VGA BIOS image into info.plist?
drumthrasher109
I played around with that the other day and I wasn't sure what to change. I don't think it's an overheating issue anymore.

If you don't have it already maybe you should create additional partition on one of your drives and do a fresh install just to check if your problem is caused by hardware/drivers. You can even keep this additional Leo install for some maintenance/repair jobs on your main Leo install.

I told myself that my current install will be my last install (until Snow Leo or until something big changes), since this one has everything perfectly working. I'll install Firefox and see what happens.
drumthrasher109
Firefox doesn't do it, so I guess it's just the way Safari 4 beta works.
Sabr
Firefox doesn't do it, so I guess it's just the way Safari 4 beta works. Safari 4 works fine here. What package are you using? Have you tried the one with the BIOS included in Natit?
cybland
Does anyone know where I could find some info/guide on converting and inserting VGA BIOS image into info.plist? Since there is no reply let me clarify my question. Should I convert VGA bios image to Base64 string and insert this string in info.plist inside Natit.kext? I want to experiment with some settings/edits of BIOS image taken from my VGA card. My card is factory OC to 680MHz core and 1050MHz memory, but I suspect that with bios image supplied with Natit.kext my card is running on ATI referenced 625MHz core and 993MHz memory clocks. Also, does anyone know of good monitoring app for VGA cards? I've tried atMonitor but it doesn't read GPU and VRAM usage. It just gives me fps info. drumthrasher109
I think it may be a driver or some other issue. When I'm running some apps, like LiveType, the mouse will get very choppy.
Guest
Could somebody post a Lightsmark benchmark made with PTS? http://www.phoronix-test-suite.com/ How good is this Radeon driver compared to Radeon fglrx for Linux ubuntu?
drumthrasher109
Does anyone know a fix for my mouse issue? In Safari, my mouse likes to freeze for half a second when I'm loading a page with lot's of images (which is virtually all of them, except for Google). It also does that in LiveType and Final Cut Express. All my other apps seem to work fine.

When I got constant mouse freezing (every 2 seconds it would pause) I just swapped the ports around, so I now have my DVI cable and VGA adapter in the other port, and everything was fine... Also - have you tried Safari 3.2.1?
drumthrasher109
I'll try switching them around and see what happens. Yes, I have tried Safari 3 (on both Windows and Mac) and it sucked so hard. The mouse junk doesn't just happen in Safari, but other apps too. I'll install Guitar Hero 3 real quick and see what happens. EDIT: Haha, cool! It works just fine! Thanks .
