cybland
No, I didn't try it, but I'm thinking about it. I heard that some users were able to get resolution change working from it. Back to my initial question: Is this safe to do? I'm afraid to flash my card. But there are two reasons why I want to do it: 1. To set the fan speed to 60%. 2. To be able to change the resolution. I just need to know if it's safe, and I need some instructions on how to do this. Flashing BIOS is always risky. I consider it to be last resort. Judging by your reasons I'm not even sure that you should do it since I'm not really sure that you would get resolution switch that way. Anyway if you really want to do it you can try ASUS EAH4850 bios from this post since I'm using that card and have no problems switching resolutions. Johnniecarcinogen said in that post that he had to use atiflash in DOS booted from USB stick. You're right: I didn't state that here. netkas asked me to try the second DVI port while i was logged to the #RadeonHD IRC channel and i reported the (negative) results directly to him. Ok, it's clear then. But I'm almost sure that there was several reports of HD4870 working in dual screen mode, DVI>VGA>VGA monitor on DVI1 and DVI>DVI monitor on DVI2. I'll check forum posts later. keypox
I will wait on flashing, because things might work tomorrow with new builds of 10.5.7 or whenever 10.5.7 is released March 25th? But after 10.5.7 comes out and we still have problems that flashing will fix, I will flash.
Razlor
Gainward HD4870 GS here, 1GB RAM Monitor is connected to DVI, needs HDMI->DVI->VGA to work. Resolution is set in com.apple.Boot.plist. Resolution switching / display sleep does not work -> results in black screen. Well, i'll wait and see what the future holds. :-) Cheers, Raz
chinkzsta
It is not neccesary to install OpenGL.framework from 10.5.7 if you have QE/CI after installing drivers pkg. I don't think I have QE/CI after installing the pkg. How do I check if I have it? If it suppose to say QuartzGL supported in the display section in system profiler, I don't have it. I flashed my card 3 times from within RBE (you need to download Winflash too). You also need to do it from within XP - Vista won't work. Or you can do it with atiflash in a bootable DOS CD/USB stick (you will need to learn the correct command to use). An advantage of flashing with atiflash as opposed to RBE is that it's less likely for the system to crash (say XP crashed while flashing your card = not good!). However, I did it fine from RBE (using XP SP2) so you should be ok as long as you know what you're doing. Don't blame me if something goes wrong though... rahil
As per netkas' suggestion on IRC, I SSH'ed into my computer with drivers installed(when its in black screen), and use the system_profiler command. Well, interestingly enough, it errors when it gets to the "Display" section Edit: Switching to port 1 (closest to mobo) gets me full qe/ci and res change! But, sadly, it won't output to monitor, so i can only see this on vnc....Also, it recognizes my monitor, too....it says Q9-2 Series (my model number for monitor) and has all the right resolutions/refresh rates...SO CLOSE! I attached picture taken with VNC

After instaling driver pkg and restarting your system check Graphics/Display section of System profiler for two things: - Core Image: Hardware Accelerated - Quartz Extreme: Supported QuartzGL is related to 2D acceleration and is not available by default. It can be enabled by couple of metods, easiest of which is by using OSx86 Tools.
netkas
QuartzGL is accelerated gui via opengl, not QE. better to do not enable QuartzGL if QE works fine
tinhay
I found this bit on macrumors today: Finally, the parts list surprisingly reveals that the Mac Pro will finally be updated alongside a new ATI RADEON HD 4870 graphics card. The Mac Pro specs reveal the following specs:MAC PRO 2.26_8CX/6X1G/640/GT120/SD-USA MAC PRO 2.66QCX/3X1GB/640/GT120/SD-USA GRAPHICS CARD MB999LL/A - ATI RADEON HD 4870 512MB source 1 source 2 So apparently Apple will offer the HD4780 as a BTO option in the future Mac Pros. That would be a huge step forward for HD47x0 hackintoshes, no?

That would be a huge step forward for HD47x0 hackintoshes, no? That is rather expected since Apple's 10.5.7_BETA update has driver support for ATI HD48xx cards (drivers that HD48xx users are curently using). We can only hope that final 10.5.7 update will have some "bugs" fixed (resolution switching, dual screen support, sleep support).

When I'm browsing web pages with Safari 4, my mouse likes to freeze every couple of seconds (for about half a second). Is this a driver issue or a Safari issue... Drumthrasher I've just installed Safari 4 to check for your mouse freezing problem. Unfortunately everything is OK. I have no mouse freezing in Safari 4. Just for your information I'm using netkas Natit_with_4850_bios_inside.pkg drivers and original 10.5.6 OpenGL.framework. What is your setup? Have you flashed your VGA BIOS? Hubert
Hi everyone, i was following this topic for a long time, when i was still on osx86. Now i bought a Mac Pro first gen, and i want to use my 4850 toxic on Leo too (working on bootcamp - xp). For the moment, i'm running on the 7300 GT provided, and when i want to play games, i boot on XP and plug my screen on my 4850. I know graphic card on Leopard should be Apple compatible, but do you think, with netkas .pkg file, i could manage to get my 4850 run "natively" with Leopard and, to get rid of this old 7300 ? Thank you for any tips !!
