Hi netkas:

My card is Powercolor HD4850 , it has 3 connectors: HDMI+Display Port+DVI(close to mobo). I only have a CRT Screen (NEC FE2111SB) , so after Driver pkg installation I tried DIV2VGA adapter in DVI port but just a black screen : (

Question: as I know,HDMI2DVI+DVI2VGA solution could not have analog RGB signal needed by CRT , so how can i do to get this driver work ?

sorry for my poor english~

rahil, add ur device-id to natit plist also

I think i found where to do this and I am doing it now

Edit: I did this. Earlier, I installed new kexts released today, and junk was gone, but no picture was there on startup. Adding my device id to natit goes back to same thing as before

Edit: I didn't repair permissions on natit  . After doing so....it goes back to quick flash of blue screen on start, and then black screen (no picture sent to monitor)

Edit: adding new OpenGL framework goes back to random junk

update:

I tried with my card(HDMI+Display port+DVI) , HDMI2DIV+DVI2VGA @HDMI port without cable and another DVI2VGA adapter @DVI port connected to monitor ,boot with -F -X -V

The result is :Still BLACK SCREEN after a blue screen flashed past. : (

seems on this beta driver, the DVI port(close to mobo) have not any analog VGA signal output : (

any ideas?

I also installed driver+bios (the third netkas solution) and everything works just fine on a Sapphire 4850 Dual Slot. Thanks netkas and all of you who have contributed for a driver. :)

Only problem is that now I cannot put my hackintosh in SLEEP. When doing this and then return to the OS there are some glitches in the screen (like several dead pixels all around) and the system is not responding. Does anybody have this problem too?

It would be fantastic to have a 100% working system! My hopes are on your brains :happymac:

Also my general question:

Does anybody have using an VGA (Analog) TFT with VGA only /CRT with those 4850 cards and it works ?

(Sure using an DVI-VGA ).

Thanks

I'm using VGA (Analog) TFT (Samsung SyncMaster 920NW). It works in single monitor configuration by attaching it to DVI2 through DVI->VGA adapter. This should work with all HD4850 cards that have only 2 DVI ports (not counting S-Video, composite or whatever).

So one DVi>VGA Konverter is enough for usage , or do i need booth dvi output connected (one to VGA, one Dummy) ?

Do you mean that HDMI output (some cards have that) may be a problem if there is nothing connected ?

Just an update, I am using the Palit 4870 and I plugged HDMI>DVI adapter into the HDMI slot, and as my monitor is VGA only, I plugged VGA>VGA into the VGA slot. And, voila it works! But it didn't show my 22" resolution which is 1680x1050, so I used SwitchRes and made my custom resolution, rebooted and it works perfectly. Now I need to get the ethernet thing working (which I have no idea how to) then its fully working. I didn't/don't know about QE/CI so I don't know if its enabled or what not.

Yeah waiting for sleep and dual. Then it will be good. But this is a big step forward. Hopefully 10.5.7 gets out soon.

I FOUND THE SOLUTION FOR THE SCREEN BOUNCING/JERKING FOR 4850

After trying many bioses I found the problem is on the clock settings, the memory must be the same speed in all settings, I found this using RBE and looking at the sapphire BIOS and the 4870 stock, so I put the same speed (993 MHz for memory clock) and it works!, this fix the kernel panic with the sapphire bios, and fixes sleep and resolution change. You still need to use the DVIVGA adapter.

Here is the BIOS I use ATI4850custom.zip is for reference card so it should work for any 4850, or you can try editing your videocard bios with RBE

Be careful when flashing your card, I'm not responsible for any damage to your card.

I'm not having any weird jerking problems with my 4850, but I can't change the resolution. Could you provide more detail on how to flash the BIOS on my 4850 with the one in the archive? I was playing around with RBE and I was afraid to mess with anything...

In my case it was enough to use DVI>VGA>VGA monitor on secondary port (DVI2).

Do you mean that HDMI output (some cards have that) may be a problem if there is nothing connected ?

By reading posts here it seems that most cards that have HDMI port consider it to be primary port. Therefore you have two cases here:

1.) HD4850 with HDMI - you should be able to use DVI port (or VGA if card has it) without anything connected to HDMI.

2.) HD4870 with HDMI - you must connect at least HDMI>DVI adapter (or HDMI>DVI + DVI>VGA on some cards) to be able to use card's DVI port (or VGA if card has it).

Also one other difference between HD4850 and HD4870 is that HD4850 cannot use both ports at the same time (no dual screen support) wheres HD4870 can use both ports (has dual screen support). There was no report about using 3 monitors on cards that have HDMI, DVI and VGA ports.

Do you have problem with resolution switching in general or you cannot get 16:10 resolutions? As far as I remember HD4850 user, that use VGA monitor, can switch between 4:3 resolutions but to be able to have 16:10 resolutions you have to use SwitchResX to key-in your custom desired resolution. It has something to do with Leo not being able to read monitor's EDID properly when connected through DVI>VGA adapter. It detects all monitors as Standard VGA/SVGA Monitor therefore only 4:3 resolutions are available.

I can't switch my resolution to anything. My maximum resolution is 1280x1024 on my 19" LCD monitor, which is the resolution I am getting switched to at the login screen (which is good). I just can't switch to any other resolution. My refresh rate is also at 59.9. If I change that, then I'll just get a black screen.

Please post some more detail. Do you connect your LCD through VGA or DVI cable? Is your monitor identified properly (check System Profiler) or is it detected as Standard VGA/SVGA Display? Do you have forced 1280x1024 resolution in your com.Apple.boot.plist? Have you tried some applications/games that automatically switch resolution on start?

I'm connected via DVI (my DVI cable is plugged into the first DVI port and just the DVI>VGA adapter is plugged into the second). It is named properly (FDP bla bla whatever Gateway monitors are called). I do not have the forced resolution. I haven't tried any games or apps that automatically switch the resolution, but sometimes when I access my computer via LogMeIn on my iPhone, it will change the resolution (it automatically lowers the resolution of the client computer whenever the memory on my iPhone is low). I'm not the only one with this problem.

That is very strange. Usualy when Leo reads monitor's EDID and gets model name he also gets monitor's resolution and refresh rate table. Have you tried SwitchResX? It can read and extend list of available resolutions in "Displays" preference pane in System Preferences.

The OpenGL.Framework is more like a folder u replace. the original OpenGL.Framework folder sits in: /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.Framework u need to replace the OpenGL.Framework folder with the new version 10.5.7 one. Don't overwrite it, but replace. After u have done that, u must repair the permissions.

I've done the first hard part of installing the drivers and making the screen work with it successfully, now with this OpenGL thing.

How exactly, step by step would I install this thing?

I tried replacing it, authencated it, but it didn't replace all the files and I couldn't do anything else so I rebooted and it showed the mac loading screen on -v -x -f -s so I reinstalled the system.

Thanks for all you guys' help by the way

cybland, when biciolino was testing second dvi port and dual screen, any action resulted in black screen, on 4870

If I recall correctly, biciolino was one of rare users that needed OpenGL.framework from 10.5.7 to have QE/CI. He reported that he gets black screens when switching resolution. I can't find any post where he said that dual screen setup doesn't work but maybee I'm wrong.

Drumthrasher109 do you use OpenGL.framework from 10.5.7 also?

It is not neccesary to install OpenGL.framework from 10.5.7 if you have QE/CI after installing drivers pkg.

No, I didn't try it, but I'm thinking about it. I heard that some users were able to get resolution change working from it.

Is this safe to do? I'm afraid to flash my card. But there are two reasons why I want to do it:

1. To set the fan speed to 60%.

2. To be able to change the resolution.

I just need to know if it's safe, and I need some instructions on how to do this.

You're right: I didn't state that here. netkas asked me to try the second DVI port while i was logged to the #RadeonHD IRC channel and i reported the (negative) results directly to him.
