I cannot see any gfx related message/error. I suppose you should get something like mogster's screenshot, something related to the new kexts. I cannot see the "Jettisoning kernel linker" or "Resettiong IOCatalogue" messages or even a sign of the dsmos/appledecrypt kexts and for me it means that you have a different issue. However I can be wrong but I am not sure that your crash is caused by the ati kexts.

Yeah but I was able to boot into OSX, and the only thing I did was install the new ATI kexts, then rebooted, and it caused that "CPU Halted" error. :P I don't know what else it could possibly be, but I hope some other people test this as well.

Okey, no offense :) One thing is sure: based on your device id your card is supported by snowleopard. That's a great news even if we can't get it working under 10.5.

:P Yeah but there's also bad news.. I've read that there won't be a Mac version of the HD4870X2, so that sucks :) especially because right now it's the best video card available to the average person. but then again someone might make a homebrew driver for it.

Will the 4800 kexts work for 4670? Im going to try tomorrow, but it would be nice to know ahead of time to possibly save time. Thanks.

Netkas told 4600 controller is present in snow leopard. Don´t waste your time. Those kexts will not work in 10.5.

4600controller was only in 222, and worked(so so) with 4850, i guess 4800Controlelr will work with 46x0

Dont try snow leo kexts in leopard, they will not work, there is changes in low level classes , in kernel(and system.kext), so no go.

so far i tested only 222 with 261's framebuffer (3 kexts, atifb, atisup, 4800contr), works. waiting to finish 261 and try.

I've been trying to get my 4870X2 working on a 10.5.4 install using the Snow Leopard kexts. I figured that a 4870X2 is really just 2 4870's slapped together and by editing the plist to 9441 (from 9440) it might work.

So far all the kexts bar 1 install correctly. The IONDRVSupport.kext file which makes the whole thing work kills a Leopard install. I'm just reinstalling Leopard (Vanilla Boot-132 method) now and will update to 10.5.6 and see what happens. With each release things seem to get added so maybe there is something in 10.5.6 that isn't in 10.5.4 (I can also see in the Snow Leopard kexts that support for Megladon has been added).

Other than that I would have no idea how to port over the driver, and I'm not sure if anybody can. I might be able to acquire the latest Snow Leopard build and try with that, so we'll see.

well ATI Radeon HD 48xx is fully working in Snow Leo build 261 but its tricky but it works so no worries for future use

also ati kexts from snow leopard as far as atiradeonx2000 kexts will not work in leopard

The latest snow leo version is 10a222 I think but if I install this on my hackintosh to be able to have a fully working ATI 4850 or 4870, can I export the kexts when the real Snow Leopard comes out to be able to have the same install on a retail Snow Leopard?

The latest Snow leopard version is 10a261 is developper build , wich is supporting the ATI 4800 series GPU cards in testing !.

The real commercial Snow leopard will have the latest version of kext and will be better of coarse !

So no reason to export !

But for the users that really want to have a working AT 48XX they can install Snow Leo but only in beta. The only problem is that they have to reinstall the whole thing when the retail 10.6 comes out.

My question is if there is a solution where you can 'port' your working install to a clean one?

If you want an update from beta to official Snowleopard the only issue is "EFI bootloader" i think

The EFI bootloader method is the best one in hackintosh !

Can it be installed on a hackintosh setup though or only a real mac?
