highcontrast
Hello All I am writing this in Leopard. Bought my self a Netgear GA311, and it worked straight of the box. Anyway , still haven't got a proper resoltion, need to decided on a GPU. Its between a 2nd hand 8800gt, or a new 2600xt. But I have had a problem. I tried updating to 10.5.2, and i installed that, then the kernel and restarted. Yet it got to the Apple Screen, loaded, then rebooted. Any ideas? Jakweeze
@Doc and Nick I think you two are both also running the P5Q-E Nick I grabbed your audio drivers and just wanted to see if I'm alone in this or if that's just how they currently work. When I'm in OS X (it's running the AD2000 audio chip I believe is the name) I get a lot of crackles and pops in my complex sounds, itunes will play perfectly but say I receive a msg on MSN or AIM and it has the BWOING sound the first part is fine but when it starts to fade out it crackels OR any time it tries to play two sounds at once it tweaks out... Is this Common or do I have a file / bios setting some place screwy
ruckus328
Set "MAX CPU ID" in the bios to disabled. That's what did the trick for me. Hope this helps, let me know. MiahX
i've have installed MacOSX 10.5.2 Kalway without BiosMod! I'used latest Bios 1306 from Asus at P5Q Pro. Installed with F8, "-x cpus=1" Had you previously tried installing on older BIOS version without BiosMod? I just wonder if it's the new BIOS version that made it work somehow, I'll have to give it a try. Are both cores showing up in OSX? Check out the guide in my sig, see if that helps with some of your Q's.
Sipheren
Will Apple eventually support this chipset? I just dont like the idea of using a custom BIOS...
ruckus328
Will Apple eventually support this chipset? I just dont like the idea of using a custom BIOS...

Well, that remains to be seen. Maybe, maybe not. Remember there are a lot of chipsets that apple doesn't "support" and people are running osx just fine on them thanks to some modified kernels and bios mods....so this isn't the first time and certainly not the last. Even if apple does officially end up supporting it, it could be quite a while (most likely when the new versions of mac's come out since they have no reason to until then since their current hardware doesn't use this chipset. whenever and if that is, I haven't the faintest idea). Bottom line is if you want to run osx with this mobo you have to use the modified bios. (The price we pay for being on the bleeding edge.) Besides, the guys that modded the bios' know what they're doing. They're some of the same guys who made all this possible in the first place. I'm personally running the modified 1003 bios for the p5q-pro and can say firsthand there are no issues whatsoever (both with win xp and leopard). If you're worried about future bios updates, don't be. Personally, my last pc went 4 years with the same bios. By this point, the latest bios versions have all the major issues worked out, so theoretically there shouldn't be a reason to futz with the bios again. I always went with the "don't update the bios unless there is an absolute reason to", At least, that's what mama always said. Hope this helps and I'm not just talkin out my @ss. RichBUK
Guys, Ignore this - Got it working myself:-) I did a bit of Bios trickery myself and extracted the DSDT file. Terc
Can someone give me some help setting up boot 132 for the p5q-e? I'd like to get a tutorial together. I'm already successfully booting from a boot partition on my hard drive. This way I can add kexts to boot 132 from leopard, and I don't need a usb key or cd in the computer to boot. elcolio
@iPhoneTom I am SO regretting not checking the boards before buying my new mobo ( MSI p45 neo3-f ) - but at least it will be a fun challenge to get it up and running (if it's even possible) So I am using your post (post #30) about modding MSI p45 platinum mobo, i figure since mines the sme manufacturer and chipset i can use the basic steps. Ive got to the point where I am supposed to create a *.rom file from my re-compiled *.hex file - is it as simple as just telling the hex editor to 'save as' and then make a *.rom file??? that seems too simplistic, but there are a sh*tload of lines that i will have to go thru and remove a bunch of compiler comments (see below for my .hex file) if thats what's required. i have posted my .hex file and BIOS (the one i modded - possibly horribly wrong) for anyone qualified to look at and tell me how far off base i am, Thanks in advance!! acpiamlHEX.zip a7514imsMOD.zip PS Yay first post!!! long time reader, first time poster
