Hi All,

I have searched through the threads looking for an answer to my wireless pci problem and could not locate an answer. So hence this post.

I am running Kalyway 10.5.2 on an asus mobo, with a dual core 2.0ghz cpu with 2 gb of ram. i today purchased an asus wl -138g wireless pci card.

I have installed the card, it is not recognised in leopard, when i open system information and list pci devices, it states there are no pci devices installed.

Any ideas

Thanks in advance

Hmm, that's strange since mine worked automatically. A few quick questions:

Which ASUS board are you running?

If you dual boot, is it recognized in Windows?

Have you checked what it reads under "Network" and "Airport Card" under your system properties? Could you report what those read here?

Finally, if you click on the "Network" icon under "System Preferences," does it list your device?

You might want to try re-seating it in the PCI slot or switching it to another PCI slot just to see what happens (this has worked for me a number of times with different devices).

Hopefully we can get you going soon here. It's a great card.

Edit: Also, make sure you have the "ASUS WL-138g V2" card exactly. I know there are other flavors of the WL-138g that don't work.

Same here, just bought a V2 and it works out of the box.

The PCI devices in System profiler will always be blank, it has nothing to do with whether the card is recognized or not.

Live revout mentioned you should see an Airport device listed in the network system preference panel.

Revout and Headrush,

Thanks a heap for your prompt replies. THe mobo is ASUS p5 KPL - CM (with the latest bios update), I am not dual booting with windows at this time. When i would view network options, nothing was displayed, i.e everything was grayed out, including ethernet, airport etc.

I removed and re seated the card twice. but still no luck. I definately have the wl 138g v2.

In absolute frustration i reinstalled kalyway 10.5.2 on three ocassions, each time selecting different wireless drivers/settings from the install dvd. I tried atheros intitially and then intel and finally on the third attempt i stumbled across a driver which had a notation which listed it as being compatible for asus p5 series mainboards. i selected this item and i now have my wireless up and running.

It does however require me after each startup to go to network and select my wireless router, it does not do this automatically, any suggestions?

I specifically selected this wifi card as the HCL wiki listed it as working OOB, so i was pretty pissed when it didn't work initially.

I am new to the world of OSX but enjoy so far, with help from this forum i'm sure i'll get it sorted.

Thanks

I choose it for the same reason.

The machine I have it in was installed using Leo4All (although I would expect Kalyway to be the same), and NO wireless drivers were selected during install.

The issue might be more the motherboard and might just need some BIOS options that need changing?

There is a thread just on Asus P5K motherboards you might want to search for. Might get more info with people with the same board there.
