alexaltair2
I was playing with "Graphics Mode" parameter and found one setting that gives me 75Hz (native LCD refresh rate) on my LCD screen. "Graphics Mode"="1280x960x32", this gave me a drawback to "1152x864x32" with 75hz. I saw my LCD display adjusted itself for the new resolution then I checked the build-in menu and found 75Hz. alexaltair2
User reports of CTR monitor got decent refresh rate on same resolution. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10957-refresh-rate-of-ati-on-lcd/#findComment-70132 Share on other sites
alexaltair2
DisplayConfigX is a tweaking tool for display for changing refresh rates and allowed resolution for OS X. In short, using with tool I found that OS X won't enter to graphic mode after applying "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32@75" at boot. And without that tool it siply stuck on 60Hz at applied resolution. Also, it is not that easy to get native refresh rate of the LCD monitor on OS X that it seems. I've tried enter my FreqH and FreqV, but DisplayConfigX don't gets up to 75hz, only ~74.810 <=== wich is not possible to apply to "Graphics Mode", nor my LCD can handle it. PS It may took long time to experement to find proper timing for my display (that tool allow to enter manual timing for selected resolution). I'm off of it. You may get better luck. And... the tool changes the "System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-756e6b6e/DisplayProcuctID-717 (for my LCD only, your may differs) Link to the tool: http://www.3dexpress.de/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10957-refresh-rate-of-ati-on-lcd/#findComment-70139 Share on other sites
labria
alexaltair2 : for me this tool didn't change a thing. Still only one resolution and no refresh rate change possible Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10957-refresh-rate-of-ati-on-lcd/#findComment-70301 Share on other sites

Tek_No
I guess it could be worth that others would try this also as this seems to be doing something to the display (I'm using an ATI 9000 id 4c66 inside my laptop with 1280x800 build-in tft panel): - downloaded DisplayConfigX and registered it (to allow all resolutions) - booted in Windows XP and downloaded PowerStrip (screen utility) (under Windows XP 1280x800 is working fine so we have the correct settings for display in here) - took a screenshot of the so-called "Advanced Timing Options" screen and printed it out (as this screen is showing ALL timing parameter for your screen: scan rate, pixel clock, front porch, etc...) - rebooted back in Mac Os X - launched DisplayConfigX again and removed all default resolutions - ADDed a new resolution "1280x800" and used all the parameters that were being listed by PowerStrip - saved the settings: this will add a new version of file "DisplayProductID-717" inside folder /System/Library/Displays/Overrides (this file is containing all the settings entered for your display) - rebooted Mac Os X Result is that I get to the desktop, the loginwindow is being launched but I cannot see the icon for my account to login as the screen is blue. What I can see is that the progress bar was being displayed in another (correct?) resolution than 1024x768 so the new display file is doing something at least Another thing I see is that the hourglass and mousepointer are being displayed from time to time... To fix this: simply reboot in Single-User mode (boot option -s), remove the "DisplayProductID-717" inside folder /System/Library/Displays/Overrides and reboot... Is there anybody who would like to try this out as well??? Maybe we can get to a 1280x800 resolution after all by changing some screen timing parameters... Raymond Ruan
without using DisplayConfigX and found this: /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-11a9/DisplayProductID-0 <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <array> <dict> <key>IODisplayOverrideMatching</key> <dict> <key>IODisplayIsDigital</key> <false/> </dict> <key>default-resolution</key> <data> AAAFAAAABAAAPP// </data> <key>tovr</key> <dict> <key>262</key> <data> AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABw== </data> <key>268</key> <data> AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABw== </data> </dict> </dict> <dict> <key>IODisplayOverrideMatching</key> <dict> <key>IODisplayIsDigital</key> <true/> </dict> <key>default-resolution</key> <data> AAAFAAAABAAAPP// </data> <key>tovr</key> <dict> <key>262</key> <data> AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABw== </data> </dict> </dict> </array> </plist> then checked my CRT (philips 107G) and found "262-99" printed on the back. Still workng on it. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10957-refresh-rate-of-ati-on-lcd/#findComment-70696 Share on other sites
Tek_No
You'll notice that, after running DisplayConfigX, the XML file will have a lot more keys inside it (containing the pixel clock, min and max values for horizontal and vertical frequencies, refresh rate, etc...) Still can't figure out why the display is not correct and not showing the desktop properly after having entered ALL values as currently used by Windows (and listed by PowerStrip)... alexaltair2
As you may notice on the website it says that factory timing setting for certain monitors do not works. It could take for long to find correct ones. PS I wonder how Mac Mini "detects" a regular LCD... Is there anybody with Samsung display that compatible with Mac?... Of course it didn't change a thing. You're looking at wrong place, don't depend yourself on Preferences panel of OSX alexaltair2 : for me this tool didn't change a thing.
