I got some issues with video playback. I got Flip4mac and Perian 1.1 installed and can watch 720p movies in Quicktime. When I try any video in VLC however, VLC crashes. Videoplayback in Firefox is ok but flickers sometimes. Anybody can relate to this with regard to our Pavilions?

I think this is more to do with the graphics hardware than anything else. I couln't even play quicktime movies on a new unboxed dv9205 without it chopping like crazy. The only possible thing might be to boost the graphis MB in bios. But I havent tried that yet.

Leo4All rocks! Solved almost all the probs I was having. Except no keyboard or trackpad. usb attachments work fine though.I noticed powermanagement bundle was installed. Should I delete? Also, the laptop seems to run very hot.

Excellent! The powermanagement bundle seems ok, at least on my system. The laptop here runs a bit hot as well, but not too bad. There may be a bios fix for that, though they're hard to install when you only run Leopard :( .

I had the same problem with VLC. It turns out that Leo4All comes with a very old version of VLC. I just downloaded v 9.2 Greshenko and it works quite well. It's a bit jittery in full screen, but that's most likely due to the lack of QE/CI as the other poster mentioned.

look if one of your cores runs at 100% load in activity monitor. if this is the case and its ok for you that you have to plug in external keyboard and mouse, simply delete ApplePS2Controller from your Extensions folder. Boot time will speed up alot and laptop runs much more stable and faster then, both cores also should work correct then.

I am about to give up on all of this unless someone can give me another option. I have a DV6400. I will list all of the stats below. I have tried everything in this thread to no avail. USB keyboard and mouse, turned off the wireless, etc. Reboot after reboot after reboot. I have tried the following distros with mixed results none of them resulting in a usable version; . In fact the only one that ever came close was Leo4All v2. It installed but wouldn't boot after install completed. iAtkos 4i and r3, Leo4All v2 and 4.1, and Kaylway. Most won't even boot to the gui portion of the installer. Very frustrating! If anyone has any other tricks or heck some words of encouragement, now would be the time. Thanks. You guys impress me with your knowledge.

When you install with Leo4All v4.1, what happens? make sure you use -v at boot. What is the last message you see before it goes kaput?

Also, user smeltn has a dv6400 if memory serves me right. He stated that he was able to get most everything working using the guide I put together on page 4 of this forum and the DV6000 series blog. They're both pretty much the same guide.

Doesn't that kill your trackpad and keyboard? I haven't tried that one myself.

However, I have done the following to get the scroll portion of the trackpad to work:

- Go to /System/Library/Extensions/

- Back up ApplePS2Controller.kext

- Go to /System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext/Contents/PlugIns/

- Delete ApplePS2Trackpad.kext

"...trackpad works and is customizable under System Preferences / Keyboard & Mouse / Mouse (not trackpad 'cause it ain't there no more). Still have to boot w/USB kb/mouse unfortunately."

On my system, the only way both cores work properly is if I have StageXNU kernel loaded, "idlehalt=0 cpus=2" in com.apple.Boot.plist and the internal kb/trackpad recognized properly at boot. It sometimes takes a few reboots to get them to recognize properly.

Too bad we cannot specify what order the hardware is initialized. Apparently there was a way to do so in earlier versions.

Does anyone know of a place during boot that a kext can be unloaded and reloaded as was mentioned in an earlier post?

There is also a new version of nForce lan available if anyone wants to give it a shot. It has worked for a couple of dv6000 systems so far it seems (MCP55 & MCP61). It is apparently supposed to work with everything from nForce1 to the MCP79.

Anyway, you can find them here:

u did this on a dv9205us right? Did your system give sound right away after install and does it show an audio device in system profiler? My dv9205us only produced sound after leo4all install without any sound-extensions and after installing the AzaliaAudio package Annunaki posted in this forum last week. Although I have sound my system profiler still shows No audio device .

I will check the audio card specs later. But immediately after finishing leo4all 4.1 I had audio. I remember this because during the initial OSX music, I decided to mute the sound (with the quick hp button I might add :)

Yes, it is a dv9205us.

Almost the exact same specs as you, and like I said a few posts ago I gave up on my install also.. For the same reasons.. Leo v4.1 worked the best for me using annunaki's guide as he stated a few posts up, but when trying to fix the keyboard/mouse issue, I broke my perfect install, and after 4 more unsuccessful installs after that, I just gave up.

I really hope someone can come up with a keyboard/mouse fix for these HP's because it would be great

I was trying that, but ultimately, I think my DVD went bad. Because when I burned a new copy, it booted first time. :)

lol I think I did that too.. Tried to install so much I burned the dvd out.. lmao

Question.. Anyone know the best driver to get for the Nvidia Geforce 6150Go ?

Question.. Anyone know the best driver to get for the Nvidia Geforce 6150Go ?

I have been all over this site and IRC to find something better...with QE/CI to no avail. The "patch" that is applied that ::TheOne:: found basically removes nvinject and inserts an older "driver" from MacVidia. Those folks were not known to put out anything that enabled QE/CI. However, it is the only thing known so far to allow us to change to a decent resolution.

According to one big thread that was killed by moderator Krazubu, the 6150 "Probably requires a rewrite of NVDAResman.kext"

Here's the thread...qe/ci on shared nvidia cards project

The 3 major issues to be worked out on the dv6000/dv9000 series so far is

1. Solid implementation of SATA drive recognition pre and post install...especially MCP67

2. Internal keyboard and trackpad recognition/initialization at boot

3. QE/CI implementation

Outside of that it would be nice to get the thing to "sleep" properly. There are some folks that have figured a way to get the Dell 1525 to sleep using "hot corners". I wonder if that may work on this machine. Dunno as I have not really researched it that much.

Heck, it would be nice to find better kexts for sound that enabled the front mic/headphone ports.

Bummer for you folks with the DVD issues. Have you gone in to the BIOS to enable boot from CD/DVD? I installed Leo a few times on my HP and noticed that some options were mucked up in BIOS for some reason. Outside of that, have you tried to load a known working bootable DVD...like a previously working iDeneb or something? It seems so unlikely that the drives would just peter out like that. Hope not for your sake.

Just realised that you were talking about the actual DVD...not the drive. :censored2:

another question.. Anyone know how/if I can get a usb flash drive to work by just plugging it in like in windows? Or do I have to reboot each time I plug in it?

Reason I ask is I am trying to load the drivers and such over from the flash drive, and just didn't want to have to reboot to get them loaded.. I know I have to reboot to get them to work after install.

In my relatively noob experience, I've had better and worst experience with different ACPI drivers but I am probably wrong.

The answer is most definitely...yes.

USB pen drives and external drives work just fine. If the media is formatted to Fat32, you can read & write. If the media is NTFS, you can only read. In Fat32 you are limited to a maximum filesize, but I can't remember what it is at the moment. However, it is the same restriction whether it's Mac or Microsoft.

annunaki: I know they DO work, because I can restart with the drive plugged in and it shows up just fine. What I was asking about is, if I am booted and sitting at the desktop, and plug in my flash drive, it doesn't show up as being connected, so I can not access it, I didn't know if there was something special I needed to do to get it to read it by just plug and play or if it was just my osx is screwed up :(

Onboard Lan Fix

For those of you who that are having trouble getting the onboard nVidia ethernet working, user alsnow has found the kext that appears to work for these laptops. Here's his post:

NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

---

Here's how it works...

Download the following files:

DPCIManager.zip

nForceEthernetDriver.kext.zip

Use DPCIManager to find your ethernet device id. Open the Info.plist inside nForceEthernetDriver.kext and ensure your id is listed in the string after IOPCIPrimaryMatch. If it isn't, add it in there. For example, if your device id is "10DE 0269", add in 0x26910DE. Add the kext using kexthelper.

If this works, let us know. Also, be sure to thank AlSnow for doing the legwork on this one.

Add the

Synaptic Trackpad scroll fix

I tried this in the past and it did not work. For some reason it is now. Maybe it's because I have Leo4All v4.1 loaded instead of iDeneb... ;)

Anyway, this post by c_c details how to get scroll by editing the info.Plist in ApplePS2Trackpad.kext

Trackpad post

---

edit '/System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext/Contents/Plugins/ApplePS2Trackpad.kext/Contents/info.plist to read like the following:

		<key>Synaptics TouchPad</key>
	  <dict>
		  <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
		  <string>com.apple.driver.ApplePS2Trackpad</string>
		  <key>IOClass</key>
		  <string>SynapticsTouchPad</string>
		  <key>IOProbeScore</key>
		  <integer>5000</integer>
		  <key>IOProviderClass</key>
		  <string>PS2MouseDevice</string>
	  </dict>

The IOClass string and the IOProviderClass string are changed here.

The alternative method is to delete the ApplePS2Trackpad.kext.

Wow, nice. Does it help at all with the booting (ie having to use a usb keyboard)

Booting tip: I am finding that not only must you boot with a keyboard and/or mouse, they have to be in certain ports to work correctly. On my dv9205 for example, it will only boot if the usb keyboard is in the front left usb port. :(

So if you have success booting. Make a note what's plugged in and where. You probably need to use that same set up each and every time.
