Clearly I'm missing something fundamental.

I used CCC to copy the disk, which seemed not to take long enough...Disk Utility took about 40 minutes, whereas CCC took about 2 (the drive is a 150GB raptor with 80GB used). I'll try again.

If CCC does a block-level copy rather than a file-level copy it is pretty fast.........keep an eye on the amount of data transferred.......a typical OS X install is about 7 GB.......

Is anybody else having problems updating software in 10.5.5 with mysticus pre-post method? (via software update or downloading and running manually the update pkgs?)

My testing machine doesn't have internet so I haven't tried using software update, but my update pkgs worked ok in kalyway 10.5.2. Now they just refuse to install. I've only tested with iLife updates so far.

Help is appreciated. Thanks.

I've managed to install my updates removing this lines from the .dist packages:

var sysVersion = system.version;

if (!sysVersion || (1 ==

system.compareVersions("10.4.11",sysVersion.ProductVersion)))

{
my.result.message =

system.localizedStringWithFormat('systemTooOld');
my.result.type =

'Fatal';
return false;

Still I find this very strange since my SystemVersion.plist looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>ProductBuildVersion</key>
<string>9F33</string>
<key>ProductCopyright</key>
<string>1983-2008 Apple Inc.</string>
<key>ProductName</key>
<string>Mac OS X</string>
<key>ProductUserVisibleVersion</key>
<string>10.5.5</string>
<key>ProductVersion</key>
<string>10.5.5</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Anyway, maybe this tip will be useful to some of you with the same problem.

MysticusC,

(Report).

Roger, I made it.

Inspiron 6400 in 10.5.2 becomes a little slow becaz of cpus=1.

Therefore during Post Update patches window, we tend to be clicking "next" (assuming that mouse missed the click) and "next" again -- but actually we (I) missed that "Customize" button.

Yeap, this DELL 6400 Core Duo with Kaly 10.5.2 works good with 10.5.5 ComboUpdate thru your steps.

Arigato.

specs :

Inspiron 6400/E1505

Core Duo -----> cpus=1 to boot.plist

Intel GMA950

1.5Gb RAM

160 Gb SATA (4 partitions ----> Leo/Vista32/XP-MCE/FAT32)

Restarts ---> OK

Bootloader ---> VistaBootloader & Darwin

enjoy and cheers...

most people complain about not seeing customize button, i dont even bother to reply anymore for people asking help on customize button cant be found... it is there and most people have habit of pressing next button too much...

also why do you use cpus=1? just choose stagexnue kernel or voodoo beta 2c and no more cpu=1

1. Boot into OS X on the internal HDD, and on Darwin boot loader appearance, press any key quickly and at the "boot:" prompt, type "cpus=1 maxmem=2048 -v" (without quotes).

2. When OS X is up and running, if you do not already have Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1.2 installed, then download it from http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html

and install it in Applications....Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1.2 will attempt a block-level clone if the target volume is at least as large as the source volume but if not a file-level copy will occur.....

3. Run Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1.2 with "Backup everything" selected under Cloning options: and check the "Delete items that don't exist on the source" box, then having selected the Source Disk (i.e. the working Kalyway Leopard 10.5.2 install) and the Target Disk, press "Clone"....When the cloning operation has completed, click Ok and close Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1.2.

4. Ignore message about the clone not being bootable.......just run OSx86Tools and install PC_EFI v8 or Chameleon to the clone.....

quick question

my bios does not support usb boot and my extenal drive does not support firewire, if i install chameleon will i still be able to boot my clone whose destination is on my external usb drive?

If your BIOS does not support booting from USB then you will not be able to boot your cloned OS X system even if it has a bootloader because your BIOS first has to see your external USB drive as a bootable device.......

columbo: cheers detective :rolleyes:

verdant: i m impressed with your patience with previous question :wacko: but i would work if you were booting from internal drive first :( initial boot from internal, and rd=diskXsY would point to usb and it would work, however i m assuming you are trying to do disaster recovery with external drive? than it would not boot, and i would not bother even answering the question, like "I dont have a dvd rom, but can i still boot from dvd?" ;)

Mysticus - I am not clear if he wants to use an external USB HDD as a Test or Backup volume if his internal HDD OS X volume becomes corrupted, or if it is already corrupted, and that is why he cannot boot off it and from the loaded HDD Darwin bootloader point to the external USB HDD enclosure using rd=diskXsY...... :)

i wonder if rd=diskxsy is really needed, cus i have tried to boot up from a usb enclosure directly and it succeeded.

The problem is that his BIOS apparently does not allow booting from USB devices......whereas my nForce 650i MOBO does....... :rolleyes:

if you are trying to boot another volume using your original one, you have to use rd= flag, not all mobo/bioses support booting off usb devices... some can boot from usb hdd, dvd, floppy some can not... :(

the problem with the question was it is incomplete or unknowledged user... i didnt know the background of the problem (didnt read previous conversations) so what i understood was, verdant was pointing him to usb hdd boot (external devices) thinking that his mobo has support, but question was not clear, wheter he wants to boot from usb although mobo doesnt support it, or he still wants to use usb boot using main bootloader... but than if it is the second case, he should have working bootloader in internal hdd or using a (internal) dvd's boot process at countdown screen so u can still use rd= flag... to point to the usb device... which i dont think that is what he meant! or he knew what he is talking about?

there is one danger though using internal dvd rom to point to usb device... if the dvd has usb mount issue, or mobo has usb 2.0 controller issue and dvd boot dont have proper usb driver with the fix, it causes unexpected behaviour in usb functionality where it sees the usb for one sec, and report errors in another sec...

Hi. Thanks for this. I've installed it's vanilla kernel, the latest (not the one with the shutdown fix), ich jmicron for Gigabyte DS3, nvidia inject. But has anybody solved the Time Machine error: The Backup Volume Could not be found"

Thanks in advance. I've tried formatting my backup but that didn't work. Now I need to backup everything up more than ever. I hope there's a fix to it (hopefully a simple one:). Gbu.

Hello All,

I am currently installing iAtkos 4.1 10.5.4 on to this my personal build:

Pentium Core 2 Quad 9450, nForce 750i SLI, 4 GB 800mhz RAM, 9600 GT 512 RAM, 800 Watt Power Supply, IDE DVD R\W, Blue Ray Rom Drive

3 500GB Seagate HD running RAID 5 with 2 Windows Partition one being FAT32

1 160GB Seagate HD Mac OSX 10.5.4

I am able to install iAtkos just fine on this board accept for the Video because of my 9600 isnt supported under 10.5.4

Kernal: nForce Kernal 9.2.0 Core EFI

netkas SMBIOS

No Video Drivers Selected

I am following Mysticus C instructions up top but when I reboot I get a kernel panic and I think its due to the fact that I am changing my kernel to StageXNU. I tried this Kernel during my tests with iAtkos and it would say something along the lines of cant write to Kernel then would freeze.

---- Is there a way to keep my working Kernel during this installation?

So far, I can't even get to the stage where I can test this :) No matter what I do I can't create a bootable image of my working drive. I have tried the method outlined in the first post of this thread, CCC, and just now I did a time machine restore to a fresh drive. In all cases, the newly created partition does not show up in the boot loader, and when I change the boot drive order in BIOS to force the newly created disk image to boot first, it hangs just before the bootloader kicks in.

Clearly there is something fundamental I am missing here. I guess I'll try to switch the cables around or something.

Update News:

=========

Revised Update Patches (will be available shortly)

+ System Functions = USB 2.0 controller fixes revised

+ Video/Nvidia = NVdarvin video drivers/injectors (nforce fixed, and some new series gfx cards supported esp G.92 series working fine now as reported) added

+ Kernel/Vanilla = Minor change in vanilla kernel package with fixed version number in APIC

+ System Functions = Additional PS2 fix/patches added (renamed the original one as Test 1 and new one as Test 2)

+ Chipset = nForceATA and some other patches/modded drivers by slashack added

+ Network = nForceLan by eno added

+ System Functions = ACPI APIC latest drivers with matching versions for testing to see if they work/fix the freeze at boot after "10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers mesages" (note that this error caused by mismatched acpi and apic versions - it usually happens when you forget to choose correct one when you update! Older one will work fine, but if you wanna test latest one, test it on a clone partition first in case of bricking)

Good Luck...

New nForce Package is also ready but will post the updates tomorrow...
