I test ONLY the Client at the Moment. Server is Version 10.5.4...cause i've no Post/Pre Update Packages for Server Version.(See my upper Post)

Actual Config:

=========

10.5.5 Client: Voodoo Beta 2C kernel with slashack's nForceATA kext diffrent RAM Configs and onBoard Lan.

- with 4GB Ram, onBoardLAN and the actual slashack's nForceATA kext: running UPDATE: freeze on heavy Network Load! <_<

- with 4 GB Ram, RTL8169 NIC and the actual slashack's nForceATA kext: testing...

10.5.4 Server: JaS / Kernel: "as it is" but with slashack's nForceATA kext and onBoard Lan and 4 GB Ram

- seems stable but have not enough tested at the moment (and no Patch Packages for 10.5.5!)

Update : 10.5.5 Client with 4 GB Ram, RTL8169 NIC and the actual slashack's nForceATA kext and the R1000-mod kext: working! and seems full stable :excl:

OK for anyone who is curious.

I haven't tested 100% and hammered the system yet, but it's all looking good so far.

I just updated directly from my 6months+ 100% working Kalyway 10.5.1 STRAIGHT TO 10.5.5 using the official Apple Combo Update 10.5.5, and Mysticus's excellent tool.

I followed the instructions exactly, ran the pre script, ran the combo update, ran the post installer and selected carefully, in my case, vanilla 9.5.1 kernel, restore audio, update Yukon (my yukon works but has a tendency to start up in 100mbit instead of 1000mbit so I thought I'd try over-the-top here to see if it fixes anything), selected NVInject 256mb for my 7600GT (exact same as I had working in my Kalyway originally), unticked the AHCI but ticked the other vanilla ACPI option.

Rebooted, first reboot spun on the grey screen then rebooted again automatically. Second reboot straight in to 10.5.5. Everything seems to be working, and just updated to the more recent software update items available from apple.

FYI this is an Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi/AP, 2.66 Core 2 Duo, 7600GT, 2gb ram, Asus 1226 firmware.

I had been putting off this update for ages for fear of breaking my working Kalyway setup, but recently managed to get a 100% successful method for cloning the OS to other disks, made 3 working copies of this Kalyway setup so figured I could risk the update.

Just wanna say a big THANKYOU! to Mysticus, w00t what a great job.

WOWIE! That's very interesting! I'm going to buy a 1TB HD soon, and may try that way. Will it also work if I use the 10.5.2 Kalyway DVD?

Panarchy

PS: I'd also like to fix this error before upgrading my system...

hello. i have instaled mac os x 10.5.2 kalyway dvd. when i do the combo update as outlined in your guide . i get a kernal panic about 30% of the way through

here is my hardware setup

MSI MS-1719u Laptop (spartan model SMS172UP)

Intel core 2 duo t7700 2.2GHZ 4mb cache

4GB of ram ddr2 667 (2x2GB)

Intel PM965 Chipset- ICH8M

slimtype dvdRW drive dual layer

200GB SATA AHCI hard drive

8600GT Go Graphics(used nvinject driver 0.20 for go off nvinject's site)

Realtek gigabit nic detected as rtl1000 nic works out of the box

Realtek ALC888 or 883 sound i think the hdaudio kext on kalyway dvd makes this work. is selected by default

Intel 4965AGN Wireless card (doesnt function, no driver)

for wireless i use a Belkin f5d9050 with 10.4 driver, works great, no issues off belkins site)

17" screen 1920x1200

usb seems to work out of box, used mouse and flash drive.

o2 micro card reader ( not detected in 10.5.2)

everything went ok in the install except i had to use the ppf patch to remove the AppleSMC.kext because it causes a kernel panic, also when it is installed i have to boot with -s to remove the kext before it boots totally or i get a kernel panic as well.

also i have the flag set cpus=1 if i dont it reboots before going to the gray apple screen

also when installing i have to select the sse2 patch to remove the apic and acpi kexts or i get hang at the buffers thing

it works fine with 10.5.2 but i wanted to update to 10.5.5 but as i said I get a kernal panic about 30% of the way through.

can you recommend something or is it a possible incompatiblitywith my pm965 chipset? i know it is a lot to get 10.5.2 installed

also i have the vanilla kernel installed from option on kalyway dvd. i have also tried sleep kernel and speedstep. no go on the update

let me know

Chris

Success - updating my Dell Precision M4300!

Updated a clean iAtkos 2.0i install (no customization) with ComboUpdate 10.5.5 and Mysticus C update package.

Tried many different settings (kernel: 9.4.0, 9.5.0 chipset: ahci or non-ahci System: SMBIOS Macbook or resolver, USB-fix, AppleACPI, PS2-battery...) and to my astonishment most settings worked without a glitch.

However knowing almost nothing about this i decided on

-Vanilla kernel 10.5.5

-ICHx AHCI

-NVinject 256MB (the only one i got working)

-PS2-Battery Meter Power management fixes

(no audio or network choices as the clean iAtikos had no support nor did the package)

After updating the keyboard and trackpad stopped working as discussed previous in this topic, but by installing AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext that i found here (thanks Pere) i managed to get it working again (the first time around i had to plugin a usb-keyboard and mouse to fix the install, but the second time i did it before the update). Now my system runs like clockwork!

On a side note i tried the ComboUpdate with sonotones Dell Laptops Post-installation package and the Safe Update option which also worked but battery management fix dident so i decided to stay with Mysticus C package. Thanks Mysticus C!

Enough rambling - Mauritsius

Great.. 10.5.5 at last.. thanks mysticus. I've even managed to get my geforce 8500 gt 512 mb(nvkush and EFI) and sound on my intel DP956LT mobo to work, however I've hade to install the Nvkush while in 10.5.2 Kalyway first (didn't work if not installed on 10.5.2 first).

Now, sadly :D my iLife08 can't be updated (I have iLife updates working succesfully in 10.5.2 on previous installation) because when I open the updates pkgs, the dialog for checking if my os is ok for the install appears, another dialog appears telling me that I need Mac Os 10.4 or higher. Some updates (for iLife also) say I need 10.4 or higher, others 10.5 or higher. I'm very confused now but happy anyway to have 10.5.5.

My profiler says I have 10.5.5 so maybe the Os is not reporting the correct version. Hmmm.. quite strange.

Here are my combo postupdate choices:

9.5.0 Vanilla

Just Restore (for Chipset) since my Kalyway 10.5.2 default installation was ok

Nvidia

Audio Just restore (I applied the applehda and the enabler kexts when in 10.5.5 and went ok)

Network Just restore (my realtek is ok)

SMBios Mac Pro

In the instructions in the first post, you describe a method to create a testing partition on the first disk. Can you point me to directions for creating a testing partition on another disk? I have cloned the drive as per your instructions, but the cloned drive does not show up in the list of partitions I can boot from.

After cloning did you install the bootloader, using OSx86Tools for example........ :)

Mysticus I installed exactly how u mentioned in ur first post but I didnt see a customization part in the post update patch everything was done automatically, i have got 10.5.5 working but i have to type "update -v" or the kernels name for eg:"voodoo_beta2" on bootup what can i do to make it boot without typing anything. Thank You for your help very much appreciated.

EDIT: did everyone download the preupdate and postupdate patch from BIKE TOWN> UPDATE?

EDIT1: i deleted appleintelcpupowermanagement.kext i reckoned it was the problem to why my hackintosh wasnt booting properly after i rebooted i saw my battery icon was missing. I installed a power management bundle package installer thinking it would get my battery meter back (i already had superhai's latest power management bundle installed before). After i rebooted leopard wont boot no more i tried "update -v" which was working before now during the booting stage it just freezes.

I tried booting my kernel which is voodoo_beta2 and i get the apple logo with that spinning thingy spinning forever :( .

I tried all sorts of command like -v,-x,-f,-x tried various combinations but it just reboots. I put kalyway 10.5.2 opened disk utility repaired permissions still nothing.

Please tell me my options should i have to reinstall leopard all over?

Is there anyway to restore my kexts from the backup kext folder using terminal commands?

UPDATE: i think this line maybe causing my booting problem

> Extension "com.apple.driver-AppleACPIPlatform" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components use only one style

does anyone know how to resolve this if it is the reason im getting the error

also i read 5242 buffer header and 4096 cluster IO buffer errors are due to ACPIPlatform.kext and it can be corrected by installing 10.4.8 ACPIPlatform.kext my doubt is if i install that would it have any ill effects on my leopard install cause 10.4.8 is for tiger. I tried my backup kext of AppleAcpiPlatform but i get an error mac os version: not yet set so i reverted back to the pervious one.

All my problems started with this power management auto installer which is attached. i have run out of ideas

PowerManagement10.rar

Is anybody else having problems updating software in 10.5.5 with mysticus pre-post method? (via software update or downloading and running manually the update pkgs?)

My testing machine doesn't have internet so I haven't tried using software update, but my update pkgs worked ok in kalyway 10.5.2. Now they just refuse to install. I've only tested with iLife updates so far.

Help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi I managed to get the file and upgraded to 10.5.5 successfully. Problem is in the post update, I did not clicked on the Customize button so after the restart, I executed the post update again and selected some of the item. Now I can't boot with the following message:

Please help.

PS: Which customize items should I select based on my configurations in my signature?

try update -v or ur kernels name at boot it should work (worked for me my bootup screen looks similar to yours when i first got 10.5.5 installed)

EDIT : nope it wont work i see ur stuck the same place i am ;)

by the way where exactly was the customize button ?

ps> how did u take the snap shot at boot ?

EDIT 1: try searching for "10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers" in the forum

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=78235&st=0

the above link is one of those i got using google if u dont get any results using insanelymac's search engine try google its far better

OK, I have cloned my working 10.5.2 to a new disk, installed OSX86Tools, and tried both the Chameleon and the EFI bootloaders, but the testing disk is still not showing up in the boot list.

I'm using the "Install EFI/Run FDISK" button, then selecting my Testing disk (disk4s1) and clicking "Install EFI"

Is there anything else I should be trying?

Hi tdxgxcjg, thanks for your reply. I managed to boot up by reinstalling (gosh, it took me abt 3 hrs) and made a backup using Acronis in Windows (duno it can be used for restore). Now I'm running 10.5.5 with sound running, anxiously waiting for the drivers for 4850 and it'll be perfect!! There's no printscreen button in osx so can't capture any screenies.

PS: I took the snapshot at boot using my iPhone camera. :)

Did you partition your test volume as Master Boot Record and format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).......if so, try installing Darwin (non-EFI) bootloader using OSx86Tools.......

The disk is in MBR mode, and is of type Apple_HFS

The bootloader screen for the working system partition has the following information: Darwin/x86 boot v5.0.132

I tried the Darwin bootloader, and it is also not showing up in the list.

Also, when I change the disk boot order to boot the testing drive first, it hangs before I see the boot loader screen. Perhaps the copy didn't work?

tdxgxcjg and abunene: both of your problem is not customizing... you have wrong version of acpi and apic which creates the bad bios issue... similar to usb not mount issue, acpi and apic do not correspend to right versions they create that error

"using 5242 Buffer header and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers" and it will stuck there for ever...

1. Boot into OS X on the internal HDD, and on Darwin boot loader appearance, press any key quickly and at the "boot:" prompt, type "cpus=1 maxmem=2048 -v" (without quotes).

2. When OS X is up and running, if you do not already have Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1.2 installed, then download it from http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html

and install it in Applications....Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1.2 will attempt a block-level clone if the target volume is at least as large as the source volume but if not a file-level copy will occur.....

3. Run Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1.2 with "Backup everything" selected under Cloning options: and check the "Delete items that don't exist on the source" box, then having selected the Source Disk (i.e. the working Kalyway Leopard 10.5.2 install) and the Target Disk, press "Clone"....When the cloning operation has completed, click Ok and close Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1.2.

4. Ignore message about the clone not being bootable.......just run OSx86Tools and install PC_EFI v8 or Chameleon to the clone.....
