nyc2atl:

make sure your flash drive is fat/fat32 ntfs wont work on this

when dvd boots up, go to utilities /terminal

cd /volumes/

ls (this will list partition names==note your working partition and flash drive names)

cd "name of your partition to recover files from" (inside quotes i case you have spaces in your partition name)

cd users

ls (this will list user names, see your user name how it is written)

cd "your user name" (inside quotes in case you have spaces)

cd Desktop (desktop is where you wanted to save your file from rite?)

ls (this will list everything on your desktop, note the file name you wanna save)

cp -R "file name you wanna copy/save" "/volumes/your flash partition name/"

this should copy the file to your desktop...

Hey, I figured out how this happens (at least for me) and how to fix it. I was experiencing the same thing. I had to Force-quit the 10.5.5 Combo Installer Update pkg and then re-run the 'Post Combo Update Patches' pkg in order for the customize button to show up. :)

Hi, I really would like to say thanks for the updater. I updated it from 10.5.1 to 10.5.5 flawlessly except for the kernel.

I tried to choose 9.5 and 9.4 but no matter what it would stuck at the loading screen. I tried to type -v and it showed applecpupowermanagement failed to load, shows dependencies, duplicate, and destroy. It was mention, it is expected to see the failed to load, but I am not sure about the rest such as duplicate etc etc. So, I am wondering why I couldn't update the kernel. Thanks for any helps

davirus: get a life and dont complain for your noobness, it happens at times when people click next button too much... and yes there are different options than what you have probably because you didnt check the bike town link in first post...

nyc2atl: good luck

ericware: what options did you use?, i will stop helping people who doesnt provide information regarding what they have done, in which order, and what options they chosen...

it is very annoying to ask people and than argue with noobs later on... sick of noobs complaining that i m being too harsh at noobs... for fnck sake, fncking read the damn guide regarding how to install - what to install - and how to ask help --- i provided information for all of these.... if you dont fncking provide information, i will totally disregard, and continue insulting this stupid behaviour.... i took considerably long time in preparing these update packages and guides, so give some respect and read things one by one until you finish reading it all, not one sentence or two to jump to conclusions!!!

kasros: how did you get to 10.5.5? and was you ati 2900 working before getting to 10.5.5 or u never made it work before?

I got the 10.5.5 from Software Update. I never used the board before. The first time I tried to use, MacOSX didn't recognize it (version < 10.5.4). The board I receive was design to work on Windows.

Tks

When you chose the 9.5 Vanilla kernel, did you make sure to follow Mysticus C's rule to uncheck the ACPI-APIC?

Per the website/thread: "ACPI-APIC: If you select non-vanilla kernels, keep this option. If you select vanilla kernel, unselect this option!!!!."

That part is extremely important. It may be that kernel 9.4 doesn't work for you, and 9.5 would but if you don't uncheck that option under System Functions, it won't work.

Also, from the thread too, the applecpupowermanagement not working is completely okay and expected.

Good luck!

mysticus: Sorry for the late, I just gave it another try but still failed. I followed your order which is install a don't restart install b don't restart install c and restart. I tried a few times, I chose vanilla 9.5 kernel and nvinject 768 and audio 1988. It would gave me a problem. But if I only chose nvinject and audio, it wouldn't give me any problem to get 10.5.5. I always get stuck at the screen where it shows applecpupowermanagement failed. Thanks for your attention.

slyydrr: I did it but it didn't help :hysterical:

I have a problem with the update to 10.5.5

I have MAC OS X 10.5.2 Kalyway installed on my computer with the nforce kernel 9.2.

Everything works (Ethernet not of course) but i can't update to 10.5.5.

I follow the instructions that mysticus had described, (so I booted with -v cpus=1 mem=2048) but the computer freezes after step (-b-) Official Combo Update.

I just have 10 seconds untill he freezes and in that time can't i install the post combo update. I used the update package (1.1.3a from Bike Town).

So have you guys got any tips? (further info on my system --> signature)

Thanks on forehand. (I really appreciate the effort of Mysticus the make the whole combo update work for so much people)

Update News: 1.1.5 package added

Changes in 1.1.5:

+ new pre patch for nforce chipsets for testing to see if it will prevent freeze or not...

+ 9.5.0 vanilla kernel pakages revised to add APIC kext to match vanilla ACPI, because some of you use older versions, and when you update to latest ACPI, version will not match, and will cause to stop at boot after IOAPIC buffer messages... (this usually happens on bad bios boards, but also on intel has problem if the versions do not match...

+ 9.5.1 vanilla kernel (of course with system.kext so no usb mount issue as usual from my packages) for new nforce macs (said to be supporting nforce chipset ;) ) test it on a separate partition so if anything goes haywire dont blame me like some noobs for trashing your installs :)

+ 9.5.0 voodoo beta 2c

+ small script changes in ati 1950 installer, to see if it will install correctly...

btw... YOU gave me the page where download the links, so...

Anyway, I provided information in first place, all the information possible.

Why the hell do you ask people to collaborate if you wont?

Are you retarded or something?

davirius: i gave the link to everyone and imformed everyone that the site will change and the update package in the site was not latest... and even informed in the topic here... you are noob, stupid and retard yourself, what can i do about it... if you read the topic, i answer people properly if they give proper information... you are noob, and dont provide proper information...

nyc2atl: i think there is another separate package for r1000, i may include it in the next update, and same goes for the wifi 8187 as well, i think it has official "original" driver from oem... i will check about them tomorrow, and maybe provide another package for those two...

Hey Mysticus C*

Just wanted to say thanks for your hard work bro.

The update when very smoothly.

My system was a Dell GX520, 1gig ram, 40gig PATA for OS and 80Gig SATA for data, running 10.5.1 kalyway

I used restore on all patches except the kernel which I updated to 9.4

I had previously tried without luck to use the ideneb 10.5.5.

So Im very happy now.

I seem to have a few more mouse artifacts than before, which GMA950 kext do you use?

Cheers :(

lo-fi: main kexts are latest original... only framebuffer is older for obvious reasons... if you followed gm900 or 950 topic, some people have very good results some people have somewhat good results with certain drawbacks... u can try older versions if you want... but make sure you understand what you are doing...

Look, at least you have a really problem or trauma when kid, I think you should understand.

Anyway, what "proper information" i DID NOT gave?

I mean, I think I gave mostly information you need for a simple question, in the other hand, if you brain still functioning you can say with human words something like "I need more information, cant help you, sorry".

But the first think you said is "you are a noob". SO, the noob is me just because you are stupid enough to no read or understand what I wrote?.

Keep it up man.

Im not going to still complaining, you are fuking retarded and I was able to fix the problem with other people.

Thanks, the problem was really easy, I thought you was able to fix it.

Davirus: Stupid morons come and go everyday, because noobs like you do not understand how to read, but know how to fight and argue like arrogant morons. You simply have no idea what i am talking about. I am here to help people as much as I can as much as they give me the correct information regarding what is happening, and what i ask in my guide... You simply refuse to understand and read it. It does not matter how simple or how hard the problem is, I use a structered way to solve them. Better and clearer the information, quicker teh answer... and dont forget (which i doubt you understand) I am not dealing with one noob, with a black screen problem (how obvious it gets to understand you have gfx card problem, but you dont say anything about your gfx card model etc info that was the info being asked). You call me stupid because I refused to answer your question, but u refused to tell me your hardware specs since my last insult against you yesterday.... only now you wrote down your hardware specs... not so hard ey? i can ask you every single of these, but i simply fed up asking people since i said it right in the first post where all the links and guides are! you simply refused to answer, rather continue arguing with me... since you were able to fix the problem yourself with other people, you have no business around here, so go ahead and take off... coz i wont answer anymore of your stupid arguments about how stupid you are...

geforce: i m trying out new tests if you are in, you can follow from the nforce topic, just click the link and read the test settings and read the topic's first post as well... also check the latest 1.1.5 update patches from BIKE TOWN

note: verdant did the test 2 part and had no problem installing the combo (no cpus=1 or any flag) and no freezes, will post the options to choose and things to be done later... fingers crossed for nforce users :(

nyc2atl: if you provide the files (either upload them somewhere and provide the link to me here or through PM), i can add them to next package, so you dont wrestle and other in your shoes dont have problem with them as well...

well check verdant's topic, i found some sort of workaround to be able to install 10.5.5 without freeze problem... also you can try with the 1.1.5 package, (use pre patch for nforce instead of normal one)

prepatch for nforce

combo update

post patch customized

(i made one more package for verdant's topic for nforce users, which solves many of the nforce related troubles including some on board lan and 64 bit issue with memory, but the drivers included in that package works fine for some, and may not work well partly for others... check verdant's topic)

(and do the test 2 also download the nforce drivers package as well...)

he will post the results and the options to choose later... just check his topic :D
