Mysticus C*
22hertz: vanilla kernel is vanilla kernel. fix is an additional driver for kernel to be able to HALT (STOP) the system completely! Vanilla kernel on some systems has restart/shutdown initiation stuck problem. The fix is running an addititional driver nothing else. and vanilla is untouched kernel still! Your perception of vanilla is a bit off. NOONE is able to run their system completely UNTOUCHED apart from ORIGINAL MACs! Lost Devil: I would suggest you to use NVdarwin instead of efi strings. Maybe it can fix your problem with the resolution? Also i m not sure you still have USB mount issue? because it is odd to have it now as i always add correct system.kext version along with kernels which is the fix for the problem (can you check the system.kext/ info.plist to see what version it is? may be i included wrong version?) for video fix (suggestion): open terminal.app sudo su enter your pass cd /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ rm -R com.apple.Boot.plist mv com.apple.Boot.plist.orig com.apple.Boot.plist now, run the post combo update only choose: kernel: 9.5.0 voodoo beta 2c (if you are not afraid to make test using the brick free guide, try vanilla kernel) video: nvidia/NVdarwin/Step1+Step2 = choose 256mb option only) (System Func: uncheck (remove the selection in) the acpi option if you have choosen the vanilla kernel in test) For referencing in chinese forums, go ahead my friend. I can even offer you my help here for your forum if you provide good structured description (as explained in post#1 here) KellyKelly: your mouse problem is a well known issue in nforce mobos with nvidia gfx cards. I had nforce mobo+ati gfx card in past but i never had the issue --> indicating that the problem is related to nforce chipset+nvidia gfx you can get further help in verdant's topics for nforce for the issues you have. As suggestions, + learn to use the brick free guide in Post#1... + to test for a more stable system: choose followings in post update (no need to do full update again only post combo patch) (do the tests on a test partition using brick free guide) kernel: voodoo beta 2c (which you already did) chipset: NForceATA by slashack mods/NforceATA (normal one, not the debug one) network: is still work on progress on nforce chipsets, but you can give it a go for nForceLan by eno... verdant
@ Lost Devil About 1. I am use 8600GT 256m ONDA video card, after I change resolution from 800X600 at 85HZ to 1024X768 at 85HZ, my CRT monitor become blue screen after restart, then I wait monitor sleep, after wake up, display will become normal and fine, I think this is the only way I can using it, still can't find another way; you could, after following Mysticus C* suggestion, also try swapping the monitor DVI or VGA (via VGA-to-DVI adapter) connector to the other DVI port (or to the DVI port from the VGA port?) on the GFX card.....this gave me on-the-fly switchable resolutions on my 8600GT 256 GFX card....... ws2000
First thanks for all the work Mysticus ! Its appreciated. I upgraded my Dell E520 (Dual Core Intel Core 2 Duo E4300, 1800 MHz) from Kalyway 10.5.2 and it appears to have gone fine. I had to fix the sound but that is no problem. One question....in the "about this MAC" it reports my machine to be 4.30 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo and the memory is correct. I would expect to see 1.8 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo Processor ??? When I check the activity monitor it does show 2 CPU and all things again appear to be fine.
horsetrader
Great tool! Thanks so much for your time in creating and posting. I was able to get a kalway fresh instal of 10.5.2. up to 10.5.3 with the Kalway update tool, and then used your mods to get to 10.5.5 ! bravo- also I noticed if something was incorrect in the 'post instal' dialog after reboot I could run again (from inside the 10.5.5) and fix a couple of issues (mostly kernel change getting my network to work) specs asus IP35-V, 6gb RAM, 7200gs, core2duo 2.

By the way kernel 9.5.1 appears to be running perfectly...Its been up for a couple days with no problems well, the installer is not made to satisfy specific people in mind. 9.5.0 kernel with fix: it is 100% vannilla kernel! + it adds another driver==>(driver is not adding any patch to kernel, it is a seperate file, rather brings back functionality) to fix shutdow/restart issues! if you dont like an additional drivers/custom packages, why are you here? original combo update will satisfy you 100% already, all you need is to run a terminal script once to remove acpicpupm, and run another termial command afterwards to change "1" script to read dsmos... and everything in your system will be VANILLA... THERE IS AN OPTION TO KEEP VANILLA, you just dont understand, just dont choose anything in the kernel section, you will get vanilla, if you wanna use my patches, but do not want anytg custom run pre patch, which disables intelcpupowermanagement (as you would do from terminal, this is auto process) run original combo update run post patch nothing selected (dsmos will be selected to change "1" script, if it finds it) and you will have full vanilla system with no custom packages... i m saying again if you still dont understand, this topic is not for you... "well, the installer is not made to satisfy specific people in mind." well in this case it can actually satisfy your needs, you just dont understand how to use it. alvin777
I've solved the problem (I'm on Kalyway, vanilla kernel). The Airport Extreme Update 2008-004 may be causing. But if you need this update, it might be better to just download another osx86 installer that is already a 10.5.5. Gbu. Hi. Thanks for this. I've installed it's vanilla kernel, the latest (not the one with the shutdown fix), ich jmicron for Gigabyte DS3, nvidia inject. But has anybody solved the Time Machine error: The Backup Volume Could not be found" Thanks in advance. I've tried formatting my backup but that didn't work. Now I need to backup everything up more than ever. I hope there's a fix to it (hopefully a simple one:). Gbu.
thewritten
Great Post! I've been holing off the update for serveral reasons (mainly procrastination) but I'm glad I did asince I found such an extensive and user friendly tutorial. Everything seems to be working pretty smoothly except for one little thing. I have to unplug/plug the ethernet cable after boot once in order to get the LAN working. I've found other users that had pretty much the exact same problem but none of them were solved or apply in my case. I've followed the entire post to the tee. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=101460 http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...9436&st=360 The motherboard I'm using is a P5LD2-VM. The network adaptor is "Intel Gb LAN" (taken from newegg). Further Relevant Specs: Kalyway 10.5.2 -> Kalyway Combo udpate 10.5.3 -> Dont remember how I got to 10.4.4 -> This threads tutorial 10.5.5 CPU: Intel Pentium-D 820 @ 2.8 GHZ RAM: Corsair 1GB x 2 DDR2 667 MHZ Value RAM GPU: Asus Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT Silent Edition w/ 256MB (NVinject) HDD: PATA 160 GB, One partition all dedicated to OS X. Everything else I just chose to restore from the original 10.5.4 state (where everything was working 100%) My BIOS is setup exactly the same as user Diabolik, which could be found here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=41685 The sleep is working, and thankfully, I don't have to do the plug/replug thing after wake so it's not that much of a problem but I just can't get over this feeling that I'm looking over something really simple. Everything is too close to perfection where not asking just wasn't an option. =) Thanks for your time.
detlevq
Hi Mysticus, Installed the Combo Update 10.5.5 on my Kalway 10.5.2 as instructed and it's working fine. Only thing not working is the Time Machine. Read a lot of posts on how to fix this problem and even tried a few of them but I have to say that a lot of the instructions are a bit over my head. I had previously had problems with Front Row and installed the latest drivers from this website for my ATI Radion HD3650 graphics card and that sorted the problem as well as improving the screen resolution no end. alvin777
Hi. I reinstalled everything, installed Mysticus' stuff after which I software updated everything but left the Airport Extreme 2008-004 update (which seems to be the culprit for TM not working) unchecked. I'm careful now not to check that update whenever I use software update. Hi Mysticus, Installed the Combo Update 10.5.5 on my Kalway 10.5.2 as instructed and it's working fine.
