My computer no longer boots :D

Some help here please.

I don't get kernel panic, it is just one the roller thing (under the apple logo) aka the bootscreen, and the thing is spinning like normal (but doesn't boot up).

Left it running for about 4 hours, to no avail.

Please help me in getting it to work again.

Thanks in advance,

Panarchy

PS: I selected;

kernel-9.5.0 vanilla

chipset- ichx ahci

audio-restore

network-restore

system-smbios: mac pro,

unchecked acpi (it said Apple in front of it if I remember correctly)

And I did run the pre update thing and the post update thing before restarting.

PPS: Oh, when I did restart, it couldn't restart properly, got kernel panic.

Mysticus: I'm sorry, this time the computer froze at the installation of the official update (76%). I didn't had the chance to start the post combo update.

I followd your steps correctly (Stage 1 and Stage 2), but with no results. I guess my computer just isn't up for the task.

Anyway thanks for all you effort in helping me out and maybe some other nForce users.

I hope you understand the situation a bit and maybe you see an other solution?

Grtz GeForce.

@panarchy

try this im not sure if it will work though

on boot press f8

then type update -v

Thanks.

Have tried that, and got the following difference, of the 4 lines I mentioned before, the 3rd last and 4th last (up the list, not at bottom of list) had changed. They had changed to the following;

[JMicronATA: JMB353 (CMD 0xec00, CTR 0xe880, IRQ 16, BM 0xe400)

[JMicronATA] Unknown device

Just did the 10.5.5 update on a fresh Kalyway 10.5.2 install. I downloaded the 1.1.5 patch, did the pre update patch, then the combo, then the post update but I could not find the customize option anywhere so I just hit install. Then I rebooted and it got to the apple logo where it stayed for some 15 minutes so I manually rebooted. The second time it booted fine and everything is now working great, the PS/2 keyboard is working, even my flash drives are being mounted :D . The only thing I can find that's wrong is that my processor is recognized as 4GHz and not 2.4GHz, but I dont mind that. Just wanted to say thanks to Mysticus C :) .

My machine:

C2D E4500

Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L

Geil Ultra 2x1GB

Palit GF8600GT Sonic+

Edit: I spoke too soon :P , restart/shutdown doesn't work, and no Quartz extreme/Core image.

Update: I found the customize button :D . Everything works.

OK for anyone who is curious.

I haven't tested 100% and hammered the system yet, but it's all looking good so far.

I just updated directly from my 6months+ 100% working Kalyway 10.5.1 STRAIGHT TO 10.5.5 using the official Apple Combo Update 10.5.5, and Mysticus's excellent tool.

I followed the instructions exactly, ran the pre script, ran the combo update, ran the post installer and selected carefully, in my case, vanilla 9.5.1 kernel, restore audio, update Yukon (my yukon works but has a tendency to start up in 100mbit instead of 1000mbit so I thought I'd try over-the-top here to see if it fixes anything), selected NVInject 256mb for my 7600GT (exact same as I had working in my Kalyway originally), unticked the AHCI but ticked the other vanilla ACPI option.

Rebooted, first reboot spun on the grey screen then rebooted again automatically. Second reboot straight in to 10.5.5. Everything seems to be working, and just updated to the more recent software update items available from apple.

FYI this is an Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi/AP, 2.66 Core 2 Duo, 7600GT, 2gb ram, Asus 1226 firmware.

I had been putting off this update for ages for fear of breaking my working Kalyway setup, but recently managed to get a 100% successful method for cloning the OS to other disks, made 3 working copies of this Kalyway setup so figured I could risk the update.

Just wanna say a big THANKYOU! to Mysticus, w00t what a great job.

NYC2atl: what options did you select in the post combo update? i have the same motherboard and an evga 8600GT 256mb graphics card, and I am having problems getting the update running correctly. My base is a leo4all 10.5.2 installation. I get the first reboot, and on the second it goes to the grey screen with the spinning wheel. After 20 seconds or so, the wheel stops spinning and everything freezes. I'm must do a hard reset, as nothing happens even after leaving the computer in that state for hours.

I've tried several kernels and switches, all with no luck, using Mysticus' 1.1.5 update. A list of your options will be helpful since you have the same MB.
