OMG IT WORKED!

Here I am documenting for the blog my trials and tribulations of trying to get my ASUS P5E3 board to 10.5.3 or later so that I can play Spore.... and I stumble across this thread, and pre, combo, post... reboot, reboot. Ta Da! 10.5.5 thank you very much thank your mother for the cookies.

Nine failed upgrades.

And that was since September 19th. when I first installed Mac OS X. Why didn't I come across this before? Ok, well 1055 came out since so the Pre and Post installers may have been released during my intermission since about Sept 19 till now. Thanks Mysticus C* you're on a winner there, hope you have the time, patience and the means to continue helping this community.

Cheers

You is be my hero. I had a lot of trouble getting the original install to get my 8800gt working, I was really wary of updating, for fear of bricking it, I have come to rather enjoy Mac OS X. I now quad boot Vista, XP, Ubuntu, and Mac OS X 10.5.5 awesomeness ensues.

Thanks very much Mysticus...

10.5.5 kernel 9.4 now working on my Dell Inspiron SSE2 laptop (see signature). have delayed posting until I read all of the posts and then tried many permutations until I came up with a winner:-

9.4 XNU kernel,

restore chipset,

GMA900(2592) video (needs paperclip again now), still trying to get back to no paperclip............

audio - restore,

network - restore,

system functions - PS2 did not work - used Trackpad link in earlier post in this link, and SMBIOS but shows MacPro and not MacBook.

Also used a spare HDD (40gb) and formatted as per your guide to main and test partitions. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED.

All in all extremely successful and FULL credit to you.

TO ALL ---- READ FULL LINK THOROUGHLY (ALL THE POSTS!!) AND DO NOT BE AFRAID TO TRY - THEN ASK!!!

IN MOST CASES THE ANSWERS ARE ALREADY HERE - JUST LOOK

white apple: you need to learn abou kernel before you do the update, but before that, learn how to read for fnck sake! i clearly stated how to ask help... and i m getting sick of people complaining about problems without stating obvious information that is required to identify... plus no need to be genius to tell u that u ve wrong kernel bcoz u r stupid enough to either ignore my suggestion in the guide, or u didnt make any customization...

alstar: dont fncking send me dublicate requests, u r one of the stupid ignorants i mentioned in the first post... if u PM me too many same requests, it is just getting me pissed off, rather than getting you an answer... people have lives, not waiting for ur message in front of comp to answer... so be fncking patient...

samykoka: i already told u an answer, did you read it? u either made wrong choices or u have nvcap problem, that needs to be edited! first option is easy to test, run post update, and chooce either nvkush or nvinject with correct memory, if it doesnt work, than try to find out nvcap issue somewhere in the forum (not in this topic--bcoz this topic is for update and not just particular cases!! most people had nvidia card working, so your case is either wrong choice or particular to nvcap values....) there are nvidia gfx car discussion topics... go find it, rather than being lazy ass here asking for help for it once in a while...

 Mysticus C*, I'm not here to argue. I asked that question since I thought this is a thread for an OSx86 newbie like me. You made it clear not to ask questions via PM, that's why I asked here in this thread. I did a search, and it's my fault that I missed the info on 10.5.0. My apologies.

@netcrawler: u didnt need to make a search to find answer for 10.5.0, all you needed was to read post#1 which is the most crucial part to start with!!!

quote from post 1

FOR CLEARING OUT SOME DOUBTS

Delta Update means, only a previous version can be updated (for example 10.5.4 delta update can only update 10.5.3)

Combo Update means, any previous version of the same family can be updated to whatever version of combo update is ( for example if you are using 10.5.5 combo update, it will udpate 10.5.x (x=0,1,2,3,4) all of them to 10.5.5

for your gma issue: just read people's signatures and read their results and workarounds before you make a post! Plus, again, this is not a gma 950 solution board to make special functions on the GMA 950 or any other card to work... If you have a working solution other than the ones i provided in the update package, let us know so i can add it to update package, else you want mirroring or qe/ci etc... ask for it in a proper topic... again, read the title...

it says:

"Complete Updates for Newbies and All -- Currently 10.5.5 Combo (Only Intel CPUs), All future updates will be in the same topic"

it doesnt say, GMA 950 topic to get mirroring work...

you find it in gma950 topic, if the solution i provided didnt work... and bring your solution to me and i will add it to the update package as an option...

i know it is harsh, but there is a clear line between noob and newbie in my eyes... NEWBIEs search and read and understand before they say something, NOOBs do not search correctly, do not read at all or read only partly, and before they understand what they read, they post... and than argue, for whatever mistake they did, or they didnt ... and than they keep on posting...

before you answer again, understand what i am saying... and stop arguing about wrong things... this is a newbies guide for UPDATING, although i provided most common solutions, it is your resposibility to search around particular answers in appropriate topics...

Greetings!

This is my first time posting here so please bear with me.

I am attempting to upgrade from Kalyway 10.5.2 to 10.5.5 using the Combo update procedure in post #1. (Details below.) Everything is working correctly with the exception of the Marvell Yukon 88E8055 NIC. It worked flawlessly under 10.5.2 and after much experimentation I am unable to solve the problem.

Procedure I followed:

Cloned my 10.5.2 system

Ran pre-update (no restart)

Ran AppleCombo update (no restart)

Ran post-update with the following customizations:

Kernel - 9.4.0 StageXNU

Chipset - ICHx-JmicronAHCI-PIIX

Video - NVinject 512MB

Audio - just restore

Network - tried just restore and Marvell Yukon-Yukon2 (in separate attempts)

SMBIOS - MacPro

USB 2.0 Controller Fix

AppleACPI-AppleAPIC

IOPlatformPluginFamily 3.0.0dll (when other network options failed)

After post-update restarted using -v

Waited on dsmos

System auto-restarted (I used -v)

Other options I tried was verifying the location of the IONetworkingFamily.kext file and manually copying the backup from 10.5.2.

The specific symptom is that the 88E8055 appears in the network preferences but states that the cable is unplugged. The 88E8055 is listed as en0 and the Trendnet USB Wifi as en1.

If there is a solution in this thread, I missed it and I apologize for this oversight. Any assistance that can be rendered will be appreciated.

ADthanksVANCE!

Seems that I'm facing the same issue with the 88E8053@p5ld2. If you boot -v, can you see the message on failed to allocate MSI interrupt?

Is it possible that the driver update requires some entries in the EFI, like the GFX cards?

Any help appreciated.

E8400

ASUS P5W DH DELUXE

ATI CROSSFIRE 1950

can you provide the installer log please? (go to window menu while installation is running, click show installer log... and choose to show all messages) copy paste the content to a txt file, or save the log...

Thanks for the links Mysticus ;)

I'm a desktop user with a PS/2 keyboard and mouse; has the 1.1.4 installer fixed the PS/2 problems? If not, what kexts from the /backup directory will I need to restore?

for the laptops i can confirm my testing machine worked fine with the ps2 fix in the package, however for some of the people it didnt work for some reason (either duplicate copies of other ps2 patches or they didnt choose it, or simply it didnt work) but i provided another package and another guy provided some files through out this topic, which i dont remember now exactly which page these packages are... u will need to find them manually... bcoz the ones in package if not worked, other ones worked, all you need to do is search and find, or someone who had the problem should point the exact page...

Sysagent: thanx for feedback, and if u put your hardware specs to your signature, and post your options you used for update, it would help others with same configs.... and save time for us to go alloever the same questions... and good luck...

Pon Mak: The moment you start the installer, after first NEXT button, on the buttom left corner, you will see the customize button, if you cant do such a simple thing, good luck with the rest, bcoz u sound like u r gonna be a headache for us...

Manca: it is also an issue with Linux as well... There are some topics regarding that issue, so just search around it elsewhere, dont mess the topic with unrelevant subjects...

Has anyone received a kernel panic while running the actual combo update? I ran the prepare for update and then the combo update install as instructed to do...and about half or 3/4 of the way through I got a kernel panic. Never got to the point of being able to run the post update and customize my options...am I alone? Using Kaly 10.5.2 on an MSI P6N SLI-FI (nforcekernel, 10.4.8 version of ACPIPlatform kext and AppleAPIC otherwise the system doesn't boot - makes me have to use cpus=1 option).

Honestly, I don't have the issue with Linux. Sorry for the offtopic, but I was wondering because maybe somebody could've known
