joly, it is the nvidia gfx driver loading for wrong devices, i have another fixed gfx drivers for nvidia, the issue is related to missing class identification...

when nvidia drivers load, they dont check class because the driver is missing the identification (is the device a chipset? video? audio? network? or whatever?)... so you can see what is coming next in an nforce mobo :D disaster :) nforce mabo has lotsa nvidia devices, chipset, network, mem controller etc etc, and nvidia gfx driver are loading for those :)

so solution is to add classification check (to make sure driver checks the device type first to see it is video device, before it matches device/vendor ids directly...

i made those changes to the latest drivers in the update package... if you know the manual way, you can just use pacifist and check what are those identification for classes, before the device/vendor id check... :) or you can also do the update if u can to install those...

note: nforce chipset fix is in the update as well... in video gfx drivers section...

Hi Mysticus,

Some feedback......

I have done a test install using JaS 10.5.4 Install DVD (unpatched for NForceATA) with my USB memory stick Boot_Loader to install 10.5.4 to 3rd MBR HFS+ volume on an external USB2.0 enclosure with SATA HDD.....Customize selections:

X11

Jas OsX86 10.5.4 Intel SSE2 SSE3 – Client (i.e. default selection)

Kernel Packages - StageXNU

Chipsets Drivers - NForceTest

Older Drivers - None

Video Card Drivers - None

Network Drivers - None

Audio Drivers - None

PlugIns - AppleRTL8169Ethernet

Device Identification - None

SMBIOS - SMBIOS-MacPro

Cleanup - (i.e. default selection)

rebooted, then installed video driver for GeForce 8600GT using NVidia inject via XDarwin Nividia Installer v1.1......rebooted with -v -f.......getting full CI/QE and 1280x1024x32@75Hz resolution.... ;)

EDIT Forgot to mention Audio:

In order to get full audio functions, I ran the Taruga_AD1988b_rev3_Installer package......

which gives

Intel High Definition Audio:

Device ID: 0x104381F2

Audio ID: 12

Available Devices:

Headphone:

Connection: 1/8 inch Jack

Line Out:

Connection: 1/8 inch Jack

S/P-DIF Out:

Now rebooted with cpus=1 maxmem=2048 to update to 10.5.5 using Myxticus C* Combo Update v1.1.4 packages........following instructions: pre update package (no restart), then combo updater (NO RESTART), and post update package with selections:

Kernel - 9.4.0 StageXNU

Chipsets Drivers - NForceTest

Video - NVIDIA - NVinject - 256MB PLUS NVIDIA GFX DRIVERS NForce Fix

Audio Drivers - Just Restore Audio

Network - Just Restore Network

Device Identification - None

System Functions - SMBIOS - MacPro PLUS AppleACPI - AppleAPIC (Older versions) for Bad Bios (i.e. default selection)

then re-booted with -v -f.......re-booted second time with -v -f too........success....... :)

Hey Mysticus C ,

I followed your steps but here what I've chosen in Post update cuztomization :

Kernel - 9.5.0 Vanilla

Chipsets Drivers - Intel ICHx

Video - didn't check any

Audio Drivers - Just Restore Audio

Network - Just Restore Network

Device Identification - None

System Functions - SMBIOS - MacPro PLUS PS/2 fix and didn't choose ACPI ...bla bla cuz i chose vanilla kernel

and after rebooting first time , it kept rebooting and rebooting forever and only booted with safe mode (-x) but no ps/2 acceptance for keyboard or mouse so i can't log in my system to fix what i've done or anything but i think ps/2 works anyway in safe mode ...tell me what i do ? i don't wanna buy (ps/2 to USB) converters and find that the USB also was jammed...

unfortunately i don't have enough space for test partition so i decided to take the risk but i think there's some solution better than reinstalling a fresh OSX

PS - I was running on 10.5.4 from delta update so i downloaded the direct apple 10.5.5 update (317 mb) and not the combo

plz tell me what's wrong ?

cheers ;)

I think I selected the wrong kernel (the 9.5.0), because now my computer freezes when booting. The system halts after a few lines of IntelEnhancedSpeedStep:

IntelEnhancedSpeedStep: INFO Initializing version 1.3.2 © Prashant Vaibhav <mercurysquad@*****.com>

IntelEnhancedSpeedStep: INFO On your processor, voltages can be changed in 16mV steps

IntelEnhancedSpeedStep: WARN ** Spurios P-State 0: 1801 MHz at 1420 mV, consuming 32 W, latency 10usec

IntelEnhancedSpeedStep: INFO Using 3 PStates

^^last line that outputs

Note: The CPU is a t7100 C2D. Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1520.

Any way to fix this besides a complete reinstall?

I'm totally a noob to this but thought i'd help out make a pointer so Mysticus or whoever has an idea on how to fix your problem could better help out.

It's good that you have clearly stated the customization options you selected but i should remind you to also state the hardwares (desktop or laptop) you used on this install and whichever distribution u initially used to install your OSX86. That way it will be easier to whoever knows the solution to your issue to analyze and determine which part, hardware related or software, the causes of your issues.

Mysticus C:

"+ When you send me a request link PM, dont press the damn "Send the message" button 100 times! Dont expect a copy of your message in "sent items" part either! It wont show, but I receive your PM, so dont do it again and again until you see a sent message receipt... It wont happen! What will happen is I will receive 100 copies of the same message which will fill my PM box, people will complain that my message box is full, and I will be pissed off..."

---Not to nitpick but there is actually an "Option" at the bottom of the message box if you want to save a copy of the sent message as assurance that you have successfully sent the PM so as to eliminate multiple clicks on the send button.

Of course it's not 100% (i'd say over 94% reliable) reliable since servers sometimes takes a hit when traffic is too high. But still for everyone's peaceof mind just click the check button "save a copy to sent messages folder" so you know that it went through.

does this combo update fix the screen resolution problem for Intel GMA 950 on Kalyway 10.5.2

It didn't for me. I would suggest getting Leo4Allv3. Installing that with the GMA with no resolution changes, it worked for me and I could still change the resolution too. Then install the update and use Pacifist to re-install the driver from the Leo4 disk because my archiving came back when I installed the update.

post update package 1.1.3a doesn't have customize button or I can't find it...

It may be a bug that comes out very rarely since that same experience happened to me on version 1.1.4. I was updating on a slow pace making sure that i was carefully following the procedure on the first page then voila! when i was on the page before the last "next" button to install the post update I can't find the customize button. It's not even on the previous page since that would be the one where it'll ask you which drive you wanna install the "post update" to. To think that i was carefully paying attention to the window in front of me. If i missed it badly then I will really feel like a big idiot...

So I thought what the heck, just install it and see what happens. I don't really care since i'm installing it on my cloned drive so if i mess it up i can just clone it again and try another approach. So i restarted with -v -f to see what's happening in the background instead of just staring at that gui whether it'll go or not... True to what i expected, nothing happened. There was a yellow text( i believe this was explained a couple of post above) about "appleintel" sumthin'-sumthin' that i didnt really get coz it went by the screen rather fast...

I was able to get in by booting in safe mode (i used -x -v) then on to my usual screen i then tried to run the post update again but this time the customize button was there so i did chose to install the options that makes sensse to my hardware config but then i have yet to successfully install the update.. I think i did it about 3 times to my cloned partition but i can only get to boot in safe mode so far...

I'm trying different ways and what not and will report back when i successfully updated my M1530 so that others with the same hardware and distro will learn from it.

Goodluck!

i used this on a desktop Intel chipsets

processor : 2 pentium 4 processors @ 3.2 GHZ .. can't remember the cache or any thing related and i'm typing this from Vista and the OS X system profiler is away :(

Ram : 2 Ghz

HDD : 160 Gb seagate

VGA : nvidia Geforce 7300 GT 512 mb ( not flashed ..so no QE or CI but there is Q openGL)

Ethernet : pro VE 10/100

Audio : HD audio device ALC8803

Keyboard & mouse : ps/2 (not working after the post update ..its link is in post # 1424)

USB : working great after USB fix pkg versioin 1.3 and hope to work also after post update ( USB controller fix 2.0) -functionality not checked yet cuz i can't log in to system because of dead ps/2

well Escalera & Mysticus C .. I hope this helps to troubleshoot my issue ...thanks

forgot to mention that the only way i got to single user mode is by typing " update -v -s" and also the keyboard was dead there..and anything else makes the whole thing keeps rebooting....can't do any command with out "update -v" cuz the 9.5.0 kernel vanilla was not patched properly but b 4 this update i was using 9.4.0 vanilla kernel and it was working just good and installed it using OSX86tools..so till you ,Gentlemen, figure something out .. i'm gonna try using USB keyboard and mouse to log in in safe mode and try fixing this mess.

i am using iatkos v4.i and trying to update 10.5.5

can it be only with iatkos v4.i ????

i dont think it is a bug... it is usually caused by pressing next next button too much... it happens when you are running many pkg one after another, and in the first run, pressing next next too much... customize button comes up in the first next click after the initial screen, but when you click couple more times... it wont...

TO ALL NFORCE USERS: nforce users can/may try to do the update with an old trick that haxi/verdant is doing... booting with flags

-v cpus=1 maxmem=2048

this should get rid of the gray screen, one possible reason for the gray screen is that it may be related nforce ata driver's 64 compatibility issue...

verdant/haxi reported success (page 74 ==> post #1478 see his settings) after the update, so there is a high chance that nforce mobo user will be able to update w/o hassle as he did....

thanx verdant for feedback :) i can count on you as my apprentice

so what we shud do?? is it possible to install this without pressing next button?? and its not that we press next button 10-15 times instead of 1 for every single step. we press next once then the page goes to next step. :S:S:S:S:S

Chaps,

Im trying to update kalyway 10.5.2 to 10.5.5 this the combo update. when it comes to the official apple update is whats to reboot at the end but you`ve said not to untill the post patch has been applied. Do you just leave it and go ahead with the post patch/custom install or do you force quite it and then do the post patch update. Every attempt to install the post patch fails on my system. :)

Hi,

Do you think you can give me some clues on what's going on with my 10.5.5 update? I have tried various post-update customizations, but in vain (4 OS reinstalls by now).

My system:

Abit ip35 pro with Phoenix AwardBIOS (P35-W627DH6-6A790A1BC-17) B05 (SATA mode: IDE)

Chipset Intel P35/ICH9R

FSB 1333 MHz

2 onboard NIC's (I think these are Marvell Yukon)

Intel Q6600 2.4 GHz (no overclocking)

4x2GB Mushkin DDR2 800MHz

Leadtek Geforce 8500 GT TDH 256 MB

2 SATA HDD (320 + 400 GB)

1 DVDROM SATA

1 DVDRW SATA

Background: some 3 months ago I decided to try a Mac distribution. A little bit scared of mass of problems reported on the internet regarding these OS X distributions, I picked Kalyway 10.5.2 (which installed flawlessly), upgraded to 10.5.4 and I had no problems until 10.5.5 upgrade.

Steps followed (last install only, because I do not quite remember all other previous installs customizations):

0) kalyway 10.5.2 (fresh install) + patch 1.1.4

1) pre install patch

2) combo update to 10.5.5

3) post install patch

kernel vanilla 9.5.0

audio unchanged

network marvell

graphics nvidia 256mb

chipset unchanged

smbios checked the first option

usb 2.0 controller fix

acpi AppleACPI

After reboot, it stopped at (last 2 lines):

MAC FRAMEWORK SUCCESSFULLY INITIALIZED

using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers

Appreciate your work,

Paul

rhino: you have no idea what you are doing i think, at least read the post#1 carefuly... you woundt need to install osx 1000 times... just restore :) using the guide in post#1

for choices:

kernel 9.5.0 vanilla with fix

chipset: ichx ahci (makre sure you set your sata ports to ahci and disable jimcron controller: on board controller from bios settings)

audio restore!

network: restore!

gfx: use either nvkush or nvinject with correct memory!

system func: smbios - mac pro, uncheck acpi!!! (working one coming from vanilla)

that is it, people who doesnt have a F ing idea what they are doing, they just mess their system, instead of one simple question, " my system specs are bla bla bla, what should i choose?"

but people rather F ing mess without having a clue about what they are doing, and than complain that things are not working...

read the damn post#1 carefully!!! and full, not one sentence! esp the brick free guide, which help all of you to do tests without bricking anything! but no people are scared to try things... which are in fact extremely easy...

Hello all.

I have a simple question. I'm still using ToH's 10.5.0 and I'm wondering if I can use the patches here to update my installation to 10.5.5. I'm trying to get the mirroring function on my Intel GMA950 to work.

Thanks very much in advance. :D

this is not a gma 950 discussion topic!!! this is for update topic in general, if the drivers/options in the update choice does not work, find it in approptriate topics, if you know the solution? than post me a link to files, and i will add it to installer...

The GMA950 thing is not the point of my previous post. I only wanted to clarify things before I get down to updating my installation.

Here's simple question. I have the following machine:

Asus P5E WS Pro

Intel Q6600 2.4Ghz OCed @ 3Ghz

nVidia gForce 8800GT

150GB Raptor + 500GB WD in AHCI mode

Pioneer DVD-RW

I've so far used USB 2.0 fix to match versions in System.kext with my kernel (9.2 ToH), then used 10.5.3 Kalyway Combo update to update to 10.5.3. I didn't update kernel to higher version with Kalyway's update. I also used AHCI fix to have ICH chipset load AHCI correctly. I had NVInject previously (on 10.5.2 Kalyway), but removed it and installed EFI GFX Strings for my graphics. Also using EFI V8 boot.

This is all and everything works flawlessly right now in 10.5.3.

What do you recommend me to do  Mysticus C* ?

Thanks :)

p.s

I hope I won't be flamed as I posted everything :P
