the hoster is still not allowing site management yet saying under construction, so read post #1424 and roll the dices for your lucky link (temporarily  )

lucky links to 1.1.4 update may not be visible until you roll the dices...

DOH!!!

Didn't catch the hint about dice throwing... HAHAHAHA!!! Now i got it!

You're the man! Thanks! :D

Today I've received update packet to version 10.5.5, thanks very much to Mysticus C*.

everything is fine except one small problem: After install Prepare and Offical When I was installing the Post packet (at the last one - DSMOS Script) , a grey system notification has pop up and told me to restart the computer by pressing power button for seconds.

After restart, the mac os has been updated successfully to version 10.5.5.

I don't know if it is normal or not, so I post this experiment to all of you.

My laptop is Dell 1210 Core 2 Duo T5600 1.83Ghz, 2Gb DDRII, 80Gb (with Vista on partition0 and MacOS on partition1)

Thanks Mysticus for the instructions and patch files. I went from 10.5.2 and it works perfectly.

In my BIOS settings I have SATA set to IDE mode so I had to choose the experimental

Jmicron PIIX drivers. I unfortunately picked the ACHI one at first and it gave some strange

error message but everything is good now after picking the other one.

Here is the screenshot of the options I picked if anyone is interested.

Thanks again for all the effort you put into these patches.

phan the khuong: it should be all good than :)

nezty: well done and good luck

and thanx goes to whoever giving feedback... feedbacks are good for tracking down errors caused by human errors or incompatible drivers, at the same time, it gives good info to people in the same hardware profile! so they can know what works what not and how it is made :) feedback is not for me really... it is for others to see... i can make my system work anyway... but by sharing info you help others... thats also the same reason asking questions in the topic! so everyone can see and learn... I dont know all answers, sometimes people find different workaround in particular cases... only the person with particular hardware can know the pros and cons of that system, with a bit of tinkering, most people can find solutions...

Good morning, good afternoon, good timezone! :thumbsup_anim:

One problem I seem to regularly have, irrespective of whether of which 'distro' of Leopard I go for.

Extension com.apple.driver.ApplePCIConfiguration has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style

waiting for boot volume with UUID **************

Extension com.apple.driver.appleACPIPlatform has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style

It means I am only able to boot to desktop one in every four times. Anyone know a work around? If I try older acpiplatform.kexts, is there anything else I need to replace at the same time to ensure compatibility?

An odder problem has been with sound. I'm not sure whether it's down to 10.5.5 or kernel 9.5.0 voodoo_beta1 (at the time of installing the latter I also replaced system.kext, vanilla smbios and so on, as per instructed on the voodoo site - and it works but the seconds hand on the clock runs fast; time is correct again on next boot). The problem seems to be with Taruga's alc628 installer patch and or HDAEnabler.kext. Unless I remove those and AppleHDA.kext, I am unable to boot up. I get an error that reads something reads like mdnsdependcy [22] error and then gid 0

If any of that rings any bells with anyone, I would be happy to hear. Google has been fairly fruitless.

Hi Mysticus C*

I'm having the same problem with my sony Vaio (NR180E). It hangs for some minutes (never had this problem before) with this message "waiting for boot volume with UUID **************" and the graphical interface never came up...

I have done all the steps with your package 1.1.3 and it worked fine... but as you have posted an update 1.1.4 I tried it...

only the post installation part... The only difference (from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4) I have selected X3100 drivers and SMBIOS auto detect vanilla...

If you have any clue....

Thanks..

herrera: explain what are the steps you followed, and if you followed the steps correctly (1-2-3?), what options have chosen in the last step? for gods sake, how da hell anyone knows what you did? and what you chosen properly listed?

plus are you sure that you didnt mess up anything in the previous update? only than i would agree you should do only post update...

also, there is no such thing as auto detect smbios vanilla? what da hell is that?

Sorry Mysticus C,

I never meant to generate such flames.... here it goes...

I had kalyway 10.5.2 up running for while without any update. This weekend I updated to 10.5.3 with kalyway combo.

Yesterdy I followed you update combo.. Step by step for version 1.1.3 and did select basic stuff like (I do not have the screen) :

- 9.5.0 vanilla kernel

- no chipset

- no video

- no audio

- Network

- Marvel Yukon 2

- System Function

- No SMBIOS

- USB 2.0 Fix

- PS - Baterry Fix

And it worked fine but I lost my X3100 config.

So after your release 1.1.4

- no kernel

- no chipset

- Video

- Intel

- X3100 for notebooks

- no audio

- no network

- System Function

- SMBIOS Resolver (for vanilla smbios)

Now my system only boot with -x but it take a while (no HD flashing light) at:

"waiting for boot volume with UUID "

I’m wondering if the problem is related to "SMBIOS Resolver (for vanilla smbios)", how can I remove this kext?

Thanks, Sorry, I really appreciate your work and patience.

you have a very nicely mixed soup in your system.... it appears that you think you know a lot, but know nothing....

why you dont choose no chipset? are you running on a mac?

no audio no network is fine, but video? which option exactly did you choose? because the choices you made earlier already wrong, and you continues with more wrong choices... smbios choice? if you dont know what to choose, just ask, next time... i suggest you to start over, reinstall your osx (because i dont wanna know what others mistakes you have done, and i dont wanna answer your questions one after another to find more wrong...) read the full post#1 read the brick free guide!

i hate it when people say they do everything as in the guide but they dont follow half the guide...

if you dont wanna waste my time, read the full post#1 and learn the brick free guide!!! you will save so much headache to others...

if you dont wanna do what i say, dont bother, because i m not going to track down every single error you made from the beginning...

read the clone guide and make a clone, and apply the settings below on the clone first!

1- pre patch no restart

2- official update no restart

3- post patch with below settings...

kernel: choose 9.4.0 stagexnu or 9.5.0 vanilla (this is new one, and mentioned it already, so learn to read couple pages earlier as well...)

chipset: ichx ahci (if you have ahci support in your mobo) non ahci (if you dont have ahci support) if either one doesnt work, use just restore function

audio: restore

network: restore or yukon (make sure you understand what you are doing, because this is not a random dice work)

video: intel/gma950-3100 laptop version

system functions: smbios: macbook, ps2 fix, unselect acpi (bcoz vanilla has correct acpi), if you have usb controller issues, choose the usb (make sure you understand why or why not choosing this option, because i dont wanna track down errors related to usb being choosen for no apperant reasons!, if you didnt have issues before, dont use it!)

should be good

Hi Mysticus!

well.. I have the same problem...

"localhost kextd[10] : IOkitwaitquiet () timed out waiting to write kernel symbols"

"nforceATA: found 0 units"

I get stuck there... usually, the next line is my ethernet address and then it boots to my desktop... so maybe its a network problem ? :S I could use some advice...

ahhh in my install i dont select ACPI... but in the post patch I do... any help?

thanks in advance

sorry but i think you are not reading right...

because I said I used the 1.1.3 and it worked...

but when I used the 1.1.4 and selected some other items it did not.... I'm not saing the problem is in the tutorial..I'm saing that I may have selected something wrong.

I did follow your guide and it worked in the first time as said... I did the 3 steps...

pre ugrade

offical patch

post upgrade..

I may be a fool but I had my system up running for while without asking you a question... BTW I followed much of your guides before and never complained... and never will.....

I do not need to answer my question... or if do not have any clue no problem... I may not be a expert and I tought I have read in the thread title... Complete Update for Newbies and All

I will not reinstall my system... much of what I did I have previus knowledge...

I did not select any video because I was no using any kext for video at the moment. I used the move script that cames with kalyway to backup it....

The network after the install I had to change manually the info.plist with the right value...

But you are right, much of the SMBIOS and Chipset I had no idea... But it worked with no selection in the first time...

As I said you do not need to help me....

If anyone else as stupid as me could help me I would appreciate...

Thanks

ZANOZZA: your welcome and good luck...

herrera: i dont know what drivers you have choosen in previous 1.1.3? you dont give any details, i get pissed off! and you still dont give any details, instead you are going your own way..

reinstalling a system is not end of the of earth, it is the part of learning curve! and if you want help but not wanna listen, i dont know why you are here either? i placed a nice guide for any noobs future updates/tests to be brick free, but you dont wanna do anything but just want a quick and easy fix... there sometimes easy fix is to restart everything you have done, but if you want help, follow what is said... if you are experienced user, you shouldnt even have any hard time at all in updating... anyways good luck in your quest...

gaiuh: same goes for you to, before i start flaming you too as i said i would in the first post *( if you read it ?)* you will see the proper way of requesting help, without right information, i can only tell u F words, if you dont want the F words, provide the details needed

hardware profile!

what have you done step buy step? (not just saying i followed the guide it didnt work)

and what have you chosen in last step? (after pre patch and official update?)

also it sounds like you have an nforce chipset mobo, so you may need to select the nvidia drivers that are fixed for nforce as well!! and during official update you may need to delete them as quickly as possible as soon as they are written... but those freezes--if you had it-- during official update may be related to another kext "hardwaresensor.kext?"

screen caps of what you see? -v and take screen caps from start to hang point...

only after the information i can help... your (anyone's) help help help screams are pretty F ing useless if no information given...

kylegypo: be specific? what pacthed drivers? there are many! (chipset related can be restored with restore option, audio restore option, network restore option, what else do you want? (also put your chipset information into your signature, without it, others are pretyy much useless!)

some rumors: apple may be adding nforce chipset into their macbook lines soon? finally native nforce support may come as well :thumbsup_anim:

Tried 1.1.4. Did the pre update. Then tried to apply the 10.5.5 combo. Right after writing about 98% of the update, I got the "You must restart your computer, please hit the power button (blah blah blah) grey box". Never got to apply the post update package... Don't think this is necessarily Mysticus's issue though. MAchine was running flawlessly before trying the update. Something during the combo update caused the KP on my hardware (Machine 1 in sig).

Well I had an image and used my linux to dd it. I tried it again, same thing. I am done. I guess since my winvista drive crashed last week, I will format the OSX HD and put windows on it instead of buying another drive.

Have fun and good luck.

hi jolly,

i have one suggestion for you! to find out what is causing the issue in nforce chipsets, i may need you to volunteer on testing? if you are in? follow up

read the post#1 bottom guide for the cloning! make approptiate partitioning (in the initial part of teh cloning guide) , and once you have everyhing up and running, please continue to cloning part of the guide... it is very easy to do the cloning, once cloned?

stay in your main partition, but when doing the 10.5.5 udpate procedures, change the drive to clone partition ok?

what i mean is, you have everything working in main partition? ok

clone the main partition to test partiion? done? dont restart continue to update guide

place the pre official and post patched in desktop

in every step, change the drive to cloned partition? pre update to clone, official update to clone, post update to clone (with customize)

this will not create any kernel panic! but will help us track down the issue, when you restart and boot into that partition :thumbsup_anim:

get me the screen cap of kernel panic window ;) it is one of the drivers i m sure, either hardwaresensor efi or nvidia gfx drivers?

wanna help? join the bus :)

I do wanna help. I just don't have the time right now because of a project for work. I understand what you want me to try though, and may give it a go tomorrow night as I would like this working for my kid as I wiped his working 10.5.2 in the process cause I was in a hurry.

Basically:

1) clone the partition

2) do the pre update, but choose the cloned partition

3) then combo update, choose the cloned partition

4) post update, choose cloned partition

5) boot from cloned partition and troubleshoot it.

BTW, I am using mbr which is not in my sig. and now 10.5.1 with the 9.0.0 golden kernel!!! :hah:

No sarcasm intended. Originally, I had the message box appear and thought it was an instant message. I din't realize the forum did that when someone pm'd me and I was online. I edited that from post once I realized the forum did that.

Was thinking about where I stood with my OSX and realized that the working image I have now is an old image w/ 10.5.1 vice what I was running and in my sig. Wish I had cloned BEFORE attempting this :D but I didn't cause I knew I had the other working drive. No biggy as I can get back to where I was in about 30 minutes.
