The 9.4.0 StageXNU kernel supports 64-bit just fine - and it does it without needing an additional kernel flag in the boot.plist.

It also does 64-bit better than the modbin kernel - unlike the modbin kernel chess.app doesn't crash and works great in 64-bit mode.

You can use pacifist to extract the StageXNU kernel from Mysticus' update package and PCWiz' OSX86 tool to install it. Don't forget to install the matching system.kext as well or you will crash and burn..

Or you can download it (it's been renamed to Voodoo Kernel) + its system kext from here:

http://groups.google.com/group/xnu-dev/web...oo-9-4-0-kernel

Hi Thanx for the info, I see they've moved to 9.5 beta now. I will try that.

The page recommends I used EFI Chameleon. I am using the EFI from Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD, how do I upgrade it to the Chameleon EFI?

Also where can I find the vanilla AppleSMBIOS.kext and Chun-nan's SMBIOSEFI.kext?

Download the latest Chameleon installer from the Chameleon website. It will replace your present EFI bootloader when you install it.

Original AppleSMBIOS.kext is on any OSX/OSX86 10.5.4 install DVD - or maybe you can get it from the 10.5.5 Combo Update package (it's not in the delta package). Extract it with Pacifist.

Chun-nan's AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext is available in the thread where it was announced. Search the forum. Using it requires you to edit the boot.plist. Read the instructions in the thread. Actually I recommend you read the whole thread first so you don't make the same mistakes and assumptions that many of the posters over there already have. Learn from the mistakes of others!

You can find 9.5.0 system.kext in any of the Apple 10.5.5 updates. You'll need to use install it when using a 9.5.0 kernel.

Remember the Voodoo Kernel is still in beta. I've just tested it tonight and it doesn't work very well on my system. CPU timing is off and I get major slowdowns after a short while, so I went back to the 9.4.0 StageXNU kernel for now. That said, it should work better for you, since your CPU is not antiquated trash like mine.

Install kernel extensions using OSX86Tools.

Search with google to find the Chameleon website, Pacifist and OSX86Tools.

Good luck.

Some News: I will revise the update package to add couple more options for restoring previous chipset drivers (for ichx, ioatafamily, ioahcifamily, ahciport, jmicron...), adding gma 950 and x3100 drivers for both desktop and laptops (which will require trial/error and knowledge of paperclip trick for latpop users...) and maybe some additional options to address some of the problems...

Can't wait for your next update. Great job from you as usual. The adding of GMA 950 and X3100 desktop and laptops drivers would be great. Strangely, the GMA 900 drivers somehow work with the GMA 950 desktop on the Atom mobo.

I got all that. Learnt to use Pacifist for the first time and extracted some kext's out of the iDeneb 10.5.5 DVD. I found all the other Kext's and updated to Chameleon EFI. All Sweet. Thanx for pointing me in the right direction.

There seems to be something wrong. Every Kernel failed to run Geekbech64bit.app, except 9.22 modbin. Even the 9.4.0 modbin didn't work.

At this stage I am looking for more 64bit apps to test. There isn't much around.

I installed the patch and it worked perfectly well on an install I had of Leopard (Kaly 10.5.1) and was rather happy with that. Unfortunately I had to do a reformat on my machine so wiped the drive reinstalled 10.5.1 fine but when it came to installing the patch I am having problems - I install the "prepatch" part fine then I run the apple combo dmg and as it completes (states click here to restart) before I can run the post install file I get the dreaded restart screen stating I must hold in the power button to restart my Mac - due to the fact I am unable to run the post install before the restart I obviously can't boot in osx and need to reformat - I checked the system log on the official update in stall and the last line states that the install was successful. I don't know what has changed - the hardware is the same, the kalyway install disk is the same and as I say the update worked before!! any help would be greatly appreciated

Good morning, good afternoon, good timezone! :D

One problem I seem to regularly have, irrespective of whether of which 'distro' of Leopard I go for.

Extension com.apple.driver.ApplePCIConfiguration has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style

waiting for boot volume with UUID **************

Extension com.apple.driver.appleACPIPlatform has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style

It means I am only able to boot to desktop one in every four times. Anyone know a work around? If I try older acpiplatform.kexts, is there anything else I need to replace at the same time to ensure compatibility?

An odder problem has been with sound. I'm not sure whether it's down to 10.5.5 or kernel 9.5.0 voodoo_beta1 (at the time of installing the latter I also replaced system.kext, vanilla smbios and so on, as per instructed on the voodoo site - and it works but the seconds hand on the clock runs fast; time is correct again on next boot). The problem seems to be with Taruga's alc628 installer patch and or HDAEnabler.kext. Unless I remove those and AppleHDA.kext, I am unable to boot up. I get an error that reads something reads like mdnsdependcy [22] error and then gid 0

If any of that rings any bells with anyone, I would be happy to hear. Google has been fairly fruitless.

run only post update patch again

choose 9.4.0 stagexnu kernel

and smbios mac pro

nothing else apart from these should be choosen...

...

rm -R /System/Library/StartupItems/shutdownfix

rm -R /sbin/poweroff_fix

reboot...

and test your non working stuffs again...

and feedback...

Thank you for answer!

Shutdown fix doesn't found...

I'll try to play with Different Syste (Motherf***ers from DELL don't show the name of my XPS motherboard, just chipset).

The boot time still the same - 6...7 minutes every time.

BTW, your advise about copy the system to another partition by "restore" function saved me a lot of time!

Thank you once again!

I've founded, where is the problem: in SMBIOS Resolver...

I have no problem with MacPro SMBIOS.

Thank you, dear  Mysticus C*, for your great stuff!

There is my working combination:

If I install iAtkos 1.0i r3, what do I need to do before installing the 10.5.5 update? Do I need to install the "Full Gfx Update v1.1" or any other updates, or can I just install the 10.5.5 update right away after installing iAtkos?

read the post#1 regarding what is a COMBO update and what is DELTA update

BTW, one funny thing - my PC don't switching off in full now - PSU still work after shutting down Leopard :)

Everythime I need to shut down my PC by pressing on power button too...

Maybe because shutdown fix is placed there, in Library folder but not in System?:

I thing my T61 laptop doesn't love 10.5.5, not working with this patches either (boots only in safe mode and no keyboard - I saw this is mentioned in description). I'm to lazy now to download a 10.5.5 dvd so I wait for your PS2 fix. Thx.

Hi All,

I was able to successfully update from 10.5.2 to 10.5.5 by downloading 10.5.3 combo update and kernel update packages. Then I downloaded 10.5.4 & 10.5.5 delta updates from Apple's site. Despite updating my kernel with the kernel package to 9.3 vanilla (while updating to 10.5.3), my kernel remained at 9.2. After several reboots and reinstallations of the kernel, I was not able to get to the 9.3 kernel. I decided to press forward to 10.5.4 thinking that the delta update would update my kernel. Again, my kernel remained at 9.2. I then attempted to update to 10.5.5. My system bricked. After a reload and following the same procedures above, I got to the 10.5.5 update and ran the netkas script in the background. I was successfully able to update to 10.5.5. My only question is... why does my kernel remain at 9.2? Any answers? Sound, video, usb, and time machine had to be fixed after 10.5.3 update but all is well. My only problem now is that if I go to software update, it states that I have updates but its blank. I know for a fact that iTunes has an update out there so I should at least see that. I believe this has to do with the kernel. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've attached a screen shot of my current situation. Thanks.

Guys, i figured out why some of you gets stuck at first restart after the installation :P stupid me, did too much copy paste, and removed the dsmos kext, of course it wouldnt reboot ;) sorry guys...

What is coming next:

+ proper working shutdown/restart fix for vanilla kernel

+ fixed restart issues for chipset drivers issue (dsmos related being fixed, but if you get a waiting for root device error, that is different! try restore chipset option)

+ restore chipset option regardless of knowing what it is (basically it restore all the chipset related drivers back from your back up folder, but make sure you understand why you are restoring, and i dont guarantee it will work for everyone)

+ gma 950 and x3100 drivers (with natit)

+ dsmos/ appledecrypt check and install correct drivers/patches

+ minor script fixes

hopefully i dont messup any scripts again :hysterical:

(some of those nforce issues may remain until knowing which drivers are causing those kernel panics during/after official update before/during post patches... i have an idea but not sure it is the cause, nvidia gfx drivers? which are usually fixed in my packages in post part, but in the official update they are original, so if they load, they will definetely cause KP, to be able to do the update, you may need to try to booting into -v -x safe mode first than try the updates... nvidia drivers should not load hopefully... only framebuffer)

1.1.4 revision coming soon, be patient and wait for the update, do not download 1.1.3a

Hi,

I tried updating to 10.5.5 and I followed all of the instructions in this topic. It seemed to install ok but when I finally restarted my computer and it went to boot into OS X, it restarted itself. It keeps doing this and I can't get it to boot up into OS X again. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You have to be more specific... write down how did you do your update and what specs do you have

Update News: I finished the new revision and going to be testing it next 30 mins, if everything goes as expected, i will release it to Bike Town in about 1 hr max? ;)

+ vanilla kernel with shutdown/restart fix (dont just jump and install anything u see as vanilla! it is not for everyone! so have a clone system, and test it there b4 u try it)

+ gma950 and x3100 test packages for laptop and desktop users

+ dsmos/appledecyrpt checking and allowing correct one to work... will test which one works and let that flow... :)

+ full chipset drivers restore (onboardpcata, genericpcata, nforceata, jmicronata, ahciport, ioatafamily, ioahcifamily, via... all of them will be restored at once, so if you think your previous drivers were working, it should be one of these, you can try it as last resort if nothing works to get pass waiting for root device)

+ minor script/selection fixes

+ ??? god knows what else... :)

Awesome stuff. I've been having trouble all day updating Kalyway 10.5.2 and your installers worked perfectly.

Everything works, including sound, which I was having problems with before.

I'm running an EP35-DS3L with an E8500 and 8600GT 256, just in case anyone was wondering.

Thanks  Mysticus C*!!
