Oh, can somebody takes notice of me? I think I get some hint on why my 10.5.5 suspension sometimes, from the screen, I saw an critical error before halting, about APCI: acpiosfree iolib.cpp: 724 (I didn't write the whole sentence down but that is the key word I think) then prints a stack trace. How can I workaround it? BTW, I don't know why sometimes it can goes well but sometime run into suspension.

what is your network card? device id? and model/name?

mui: clever decision... why u install jmicron at all? i told u if u remember, if u have ahci enabled, for sata and jmicron, no need to use jmicron again ever... it should work with ahciport!

the things is, i follow what you said, delete the jmicron, and hoping that ahci port will be loaded, but it didn't ...

then i installed the package, then my system :D up. i should find a backup of my extensions now ...

were u on 10.5.5 already when you extract the packages? or on 10.5.4? because the whole thing is for 10.5.5, complete combo update... the jmicron is only in older driver package, with all the needed files, ahci package dont have jmicron driver! so u had to remove jmicron totaly, bcoz ahciport driver supports jmicron if it is in ahci mode... (of course i m talking about all these on 10.5.5)

ajee: cant help you if you didnt customize the package... u just messed things up, i clearly written down what to do one by one... u still cant follow 3 step guide? not really my problem, make a clean install, start fresh, and than update to 10.5.5 proparly, if things go wrong after that, than report problem...

First I would like to thank you mysticus for your prompt replies and hard work... On a more negative note, once I upgraded (I tried many different kernels and package combos) I no longer have ethernet. My specs are in my signature additionally, I have a Marvell Yukon 88E8038 card. I also have a 3945 wifi card and a Sigma Tel audio card i would like to get working. I know the 3945 is in development but I know that the audio is supported... Somewhere... Sleep function seems to be working on 10.5.2 right now i would like to retain that. I would like to maintain that and possibly up the ante on the power management side i.e. restart, speedstep etc. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

what is your network card? device id? and model/name?

Vendor 11AB, Device 4362, Model # is 88E88053 Dual Gigabit LAN Controller

Marvell Yukon Gigabit enet:

PCI\VEN_11AB&DEV_4362&SUBSYS_81421043&REV_20\4&8D68EE5&0&00E4

PCI\VEN_11AB&DEV_4362&SUBSYS_81421043&REV_20\4&AD17F01&0&00E3

Even tried pulling in the old "IONetworkingFamily" kext from a Carbon Copy Cloner backup of my setup at 10.5.4. No dice.

I'm totally confused as to why the thing won't show the ethernet ports. Here's a quick Screenshot of my post install options:

picture1di2.th.pngthpix.gif

I tried to load the Apple Yukon 2 kext manually.. and I think it's telling me it's working -- but it surely does not.

Here's the actual IONetworkingFamily.kext from my non-working install: ===> http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=f7b0820...2db6fb9a8902bda

there are two ichx options (one for ahci, one for non ahci..) which one did you choose?there are also two alc 889 options and u didnt need to choose any, just restore would work...

also from bios, check that your sata ports are all ahci, and jmicron controller (aka on board controller) is also ahci set

LJ: have you tried marvel yukon fix? there re two options in network, one restore network, and one marvel yukon....

Jmicron controller is Disabled - I don't need it. The ICH controller is set to ACHI and I checked the first one, not the experimental non AHCI and for audio alc 889 not the HDA. I cannot just restore audio because I am starting from scratch. I did a retail 10.5.4 install and than proceed to Bike Town patch  Only network is working out of the box. I did only 10.5.5 update without efi and chameleon and cannot boot.

Just to say that I am not a newbie because i have successfully installed many distributions from tiger and leopard and till 10.5.5 I did not have problems.

now neither with LS8 or Bike Town cannot update to 10.5.5. Does any other form this forum have a 10.5.4 retail disc? Maybe that is a problem.

sorry for my english

LJ: have you tried marvel yukon fix? there re two options in network, one restore network, and one marvel yukon....

Sure did, both ways, everything looks ok.. but no ethernet. Kernel log says 9/30/08 7:55:59 AM kernel AppleYukon2: 00000000,00000000 sk98osx_dnet - AllocIOInterruptHandler - Failed to allocate MSI interrupt

A person had me run lspci and said the results indicate the interface is loaded and running.. but it always says "not connected", can't re-add it in the network control panel (only 1 ethernet interface shows up --which is realtek wireless).

If I select the card (renamed it when it used to work), I don't see any MAC address, or anything under Advanced > Ethernet.

No clue...

if you have done everything correctly, you should start with -v, and wait for the next restart, did you wait for the next restart after everything done?

it should be showing some dsmos message, wait like 1-2 minutes to 3-4 minutes depending on your system speed, and than restart!, after that, it will go to gui!

start with -v, and wait for the dsmos jettissoning message, and wait patiently, it should restart by itself... which people fail to realize normaly, and nag that somethin is wrong...

i m nt 100% sure but you have one ethernet working, if it s not the corect one, than it is the issue with en0 interface numbering issue... there are ways to change the number, but i dont remember it now, you can search it and change it from the terminal menu..., also why you have 3 NICs? 2 ethernet, and 1 wifi?

The interface showing up as en0 is the realtek wifi card that's built in to the mobo... (I can tell by the MAC address).

I'll run lspci to better show what's going on in there.

lspci -v -m yields: (it's long) --> http://pastebin.com/f156ddff4

First of all, thank you, dear Mysticus C*, for so brilliant job!

This is the only one way to update my DELL XPS from 10.5.2 to 10.5.5

But only two :( problems I've got:

1) Photoshop doesn't start anymore (but installed successfully)

2) Now my Leopard' startup take ages - 6-7 minutes! Maybe something wrong with SATA settings?

I attached 3 files: .xml file in zip - my config from System Profiler and 2 images - my option from PostStages.

What can you advise me?

Thank you!

PS. I forgot - also I got Shutdown problem :P

Can confirm identical problem as LJSeinfeld with the Marvell 88E8053 ethernet. Acts like it is there, but is not there. says cable is unplugged, but knows the ethernet connection is there (yes the cable is plugged in & works fine in Vista & 10.5.2). Device and hardware ID References are also correct like Seinfeld is experiencing.

This is on a DFI UT P35-T2R onboard ethernet. This motherboard has two marvell lan ports one is 88E8052 and other is 88E8053 tried them both and edited references to fit both but same issue. Also tried with restore option and yukon2 option in post patch on 3 different clean installs, same identical thing all 3 times.

Also, this update causes my install to take about 5 minutes every boot to boot onto the desktop. Been trying different patches to see if anything works, but so far nothing. First I thought it was just the long 5 minute boot, but it is like this everytime 10 clean reboots later. Also takes about 5 minutes to shut down, but at least it is shutting down! Reboot works fine though so go figure.

When it hangs on bootup and shutdown the screen is black even with -v command. Seams to boot fine until the screen goes black and then it sits for about 4 minutes with a black screen and NO hard disk activity.

Noticed a lot of timeout errors during bootup with -v

Other than these issues, it works like a champ! MUCH faster it seams, just snappier feeling

System specs:

DFI UT P35-T2R

4GB Mem

Q6600 @3.75 Ghz :(

ALC885 audio (works fine)

EVGA 8800GTX

And thank you mysticus for your time! Been kicking myself inthe head for not doing the test partition restore idea. Really helpful

Looks like the file I need to edit is /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist.

Here's what the releveant (?) part looks like:

If I re-number the interfaces and reboot, the file gets re-made by, presumably, the system and sets the Realtek WIFI to en0.

If I delete the file, the system remakes it and completely omits the Marvell Yukon information, which makes it look like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

I feel like we're getting closer... but this is way over my level of technical knowledge... (as you probably can tell :))

This is so frustrating.. The system does feel snappier, but currently my hackintosh has a $2700 NIC -- it's sharing my 17" MacBooks internet connection via firewire... I'm hoping to come up with a much lower-cost solution!

I wonder why everything worked fine in lower versions of the OS, and why it's borked at 10.5.5...

I feel like we're getting closer... but this is way over my level of technical knowledge... (as you probably can tell :D)

So i ran it with -v cpus=1 and this is what i got still the pre-patch finished successfully and then the official update failed. I'm doing this from a fresh load of your iACTOS 1.0i R3 every time. This time instead of showing the panic it just locked up and i saw nothing new on the screen.

Hello Mysticus C*,

I have EVGA 680 SLI motherboard. I have used iATKOS v1.0 r3 iso and installed 10.5.1 using your nForce chipset instructions. So can i use this thread (your pre and post update files etc..) to update to upgrade my machine to 10.5.5 ?

thanks

mvr

Hi,

i did a new install from kalyway 10.5.1 to 10.5.3 by old comb update (always vanilla kernel).

After that my usb and firewire work and i backed up the extension folder.

now i have update to 10.5.5 with the last package and i've selected this during post combo update:

KERNEL: nothing

CHIPSET: nothing

VIDEO: nothing

AUDIO: restore

NETWORK: restore

SYSTEM FUNCTION: sbmios 1066, USB 2.0 (i've unchecked APPLEACPI APPLEAPIC old version it's right??)

now USB works good but Firewire do not work!! what kext i can try to change with the old from 10.5.3??

PS also with the APPLEACPI APPLEAPIC old version the fire wire don't work so i decide to uncheck it.

make a fresh install using my brick free system preparation guide, and create a cloned partition, and install it on that partition please... and no more worries about reinstalling, u can bring back evertg in 10 mins... just read the guide carefully, it must be a kext that is causing all that hassle, i cant tell which one, nforce is usually painfull...

firscolle: i dont understand what you mean by updated to 10.5.5 with the last package? last package is only patch after 10.5.5 update... explain the situation clearly....

mvr: some people have mixed results with nforce mobo, i dont know why, but it should work under normal circumstances...
