question to people who has dock trouble after the update:

do you guys have laptop or desktop?

if you guys know how to use terminal i want you guys to try this

boot using

-v -s

/sbin/mount -uw /

rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/AppleEFIRuntime.kext

rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/caches/com.*

reboot

PLEASE TRY THIS AND LET ME KNOW THE RESULT GUYS... (GUYS WITH DOCK REMOVED AND ONLY MOUSE)

SHINIJI: i explained already, you dont have that kext bcoz release people remove it! else everyone will have kernel panic! but that driver is in original driver! so stop the damn complain, and listen, if you remove the disabler driver, next time you do update on your own you will get immidiate kernel panic during install!

disabler driver is to disable cpupowermanagement driver! else you ll never be able to boot!

you have nvidia card tnt 2 and you make intel gfx choice? also, you have pci gfx card, is it supported at all? also what is the chipset on your mobo?

vsi: the only reason for an nforce mobo to have kernel panic after the 10.5.5 update is due to nvidia gfx drivers... in this case, wht i can suggest you is to install this way

1) post package with only nvidia gfx fix choosen, let it finish

2) pre patch

3) official update

4) post patch again with all the correct custom settings...

the reason for it is that nvidia gfx drivers will not load immidiately, because it will find the current drivers same version, therefore will not update them... and the ones being loaded will be nforce mobo fixed version... I explained why nforce mobo owners needs fixed nvidia drivers before but here again: (nvidia gfx drivers missing class identification, therefore, whatever nvidia device is found it will load... since you have nforce mobo, you have many components that contains nvidia ids, and if you load gfx driver for a chipset?, or ethernet?, or memory controller? or another thing, it will cause prolem in this case KP.kernel panic...)

Mysticus,

Thanks for the advice. I can now boot into my updated system, having followed your instructions, and it reports 10.5.5 in the about screen.

The only problem is it will only boot with the -x switch at the darwin prompt, is there anyway I can fix this please?

Thanks.

bloor: can you tell me if your appleyukon2.kext is in the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder? or /S/L/E/IONetworkingfamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ folder?

(to see inside IONetworkingFamily.kext right click on the file and press show contents)

It's not in the S/L/E folder but it is in the contents of S/L/EI/ONetworkingfamily.kext/contents/plugins folder.

Extracted the kext from the Kaly 10.5.3 comboupdate and installed with osx86tools and also tried kexthelper but it still refuses to work.

Also

+ and couple of other requests will be fulfilled

+ experimental mbr efi bootloader fixer will be added (for those of you who use cloning and wanna restore their bootloader or add bootloader on another harddrive...)

Hey Mysticus,

did you find time to look into the issue with Yukon 88E8056 (posted many pages ago by two other people)? Your post-updater helped me resolve my USB, PS2 and VGA issues - but network still does not work. I tried installing Yukon2.kext directly which did not work. I tried to edit AppleYukon2.kext (inside IONetworkFamily.kext) which also did not work. My card is recognized by the system but it always says that no cable has been attatched. I'd be glad if you could tell me anything to look into this! Thanks in advance

Effendi

P.S.: My /var/log/system.log contains the following entry when booting up with the modified IONetworkFamiliy.kext:

Sep 24 16:37:24 effendi kernel[0]: AppleYukon2: e0001458,00000000 sk98osx_dnet - CheckDictionaryEntry failed, expected vs. dictionary
Sep 24 16:37:25 effendi kernel[0]: AppleYukon2: 00000000,00000000 sk98osx_dnet - AllocIOInterruptHandler - Failed to allocate MSI interrupt

that shows a good sign :wallbash:

it is because of the disabler driver that is installed in pre stage causes that!

if AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement loads, you wont be able to boot... plus, if disabler is not installed, you wont be able to directly install an official update, without going through terminal as explained in many places... so no worry! it is a friendly message, if you dont see that message you will get a kernel panic with AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement in system...

Thanx mate.

I don´t know what would be of my OSX system if weren´t for you. :)

what is your gfx card? and also can you provide device vendor id information for your hardwares, if you have windows, follow the above guide as i said to bloor, to get the hardware info... for your sound,network,ide/sata controller/gfx card pls... will be more helpfull

My only issue is with the CI/QE. Sound & network working ok. There's no graphics card in the laptop, just an intergrated graphics media accelerator from intel. The id shown in OSx is the same as the one shown in XP

The id is:

Chipset Model: GMA 950

Type: Display

Bus: Built-In

VRAM (Total): 64 MB of shared system memory

Vendor: Intel (0x8086)

Device ID: 0x27a2

Revision ID: 0x0003

Displays:

Display:

Display Type: LCD

Resolution: 1024 x 768

Depth: 32-bit Color

Built-In: Yes

Core Image: Software

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Not Supported

Display Connector:

Status: No display connected

today i reinstall from fresh many many times just to try out all the different kernals & intel video drivers. None work. There's still no CI/QE acceleration. Now i'm using 5.5 w/o CI/QE (seems to have limitation in apps), thinking of reverting back to 5.1. Any tips appreciated :D
