Mysticus C*
@haxi: i think i found the problem i will provide the solution very shortly and later will update the update package... briefly, one of the scripts from apple's update package is totally replacing the ahci and ioatafamily drivers and it causes this issue somehow... i already replaced the ahci drivers with the one from latest version, and it should have worked fine, however, something must be left somehow i dont know what... from your previous installation... in the mean time, make a clean install of your 10.5.2 kalyway and test this package, and make sure you deselect USB2gen or pcgenusb2 selection in the patches along with cpus=1... i dont know why these two options are they are only needed for certain pep and majority dont need it... your yellow color error is a result of this! bcoz inside iousbfamily.kext/contents/plugins/ there is a driver called, pcgenusb2 which is a dublicate and modified version of ehci driver, so if you put two of them in same place, it will cause conflict... you have to remove the pcgenusb2 driver if you dont have USB2.0 controller to not work issue (this is not usb mounting issue, which is different, usb not mounting is the driver doesnt load, but usb2.0 controller issue is it cant be initiated! thats the another problem...) i will update the update package with the necessary changes, but i may just decide to put a small guide to replace 1-2 kb script file... bcoz i dont feel like uploading 500mb 3 times just for a small script file... JustinTD
Ok, so that kinda worked. I had to set to AHCI to get it going but it works now, cept on thing, no audio, how do I fix that? If it involves replacing a kext, I need step by step to do it since i Have never done it before. Thanks. EDIT: Terminal dont work either: login: PAM Error (line 396): System error login: Could not determine audit condition [Process completed]

Thanks. what worked exactly? the update package as it is with the ahci set? or replacing the script i sent, and udpating again fixed? also for audio, you need to know your audio dev/vendor ids... if you wanna do old way... the update package backed up your previous applehda and alcinject drivers... so you can just put them them back into your /S/L/E folder... and fix the permissions... also what step by step you are asking? to fix your audio? you joined the forum in 2005, and you dont know how to replace 2 kexts or fix permissions? terminal will work just fine after restart... not right after update... because some services disabled during update by the update package... so you have to restart... JustinTD
No I changed that file as you instructed. I just did a reinstall 10.5.2, gonna try the update once again. And no one has ever explained to me how to replace kext files .. so I am clueless. I'll repost how it goes once it is done.

doug_jnr
Mysticus, I had great success using your package and updating from BrazilMAC 10.5. So 10.5 straight to 10.5.3 Only thing I can say is, the installer sat for about 4 - 5 minutes at the end telling me it had less than a minute left. Hard disk activity was still very busy so it was obvious it was still updating something. So the progress bar is pretty inaccurate, but apart from that, works great!! Thanks for all your efforts! Tense
Well, I don't know what happened. After trying to install the first tstpackage the system locked up. Now it won't boot. So.... No problem. I will do a clean install and install your update and then try again. Should be up in a bit.
Tense
Okay. Well the driver works great. BUT.... still doesn't load from start up. After I unplug and replug. I have rebooted 3 times. Still not at startup. I will try the second package. Can I install it directly over the first one? Should I repair permissions and boot with -v -f? Also, I didn't notice this before. But, after the 10.5.3 Update. I can't access Terminal I get a PAM error as such: login: PAM Error (line 396): System error login: Could not determine audit condition [Process completed] I have searched around and apparently there was a new PAM for 10.5.3. Is there a fix on this?

After checking in Apple - Support -Discussions, I found this: Try deleting the file /usr/bin/login by using "Go to Folder" from Finder's "Go" menu to get to /usr/bin/ Then delete the file. delete this file /usr/bin/login It is apparently regenerated by the Terminal. I have yet to try it myself...... as sorting out a few other problems with PCGenUSB......so try at your own risk.....
Mysticus C*
for terminal error, temporary fix is to remove the login as haxi pointed out... i m trying to figure out what has caused this u fix one problem, another pops out... thats why i need feedback so later in the future we dont have the same problems... EDIT: I think i know what caused the issue!!!, it is one of the scripts in the apple's update package, which doesnt work during the installation for some reason, i m yet to figuring out... this is definetely the problem, bcoz pam error relates to checking some stuffs from some places... if it doesnt find the info it is looking for it doesnt allow running login... bcoz login conditions are checked from pam.d file which supposed to find stg

I figured out the /usr/bin/login/ last night as well. The forums were down right before I went to bed so was unable to respond that I had already figured that out. The reason Mysticus that this happens is that 10.5.3 replaces the the 10.5.2 PAM with an updated one. I read about it in the Apple forums. So, I believe that if you scripted the update to delete the login while finalizing it is actually the fix that apple performs. Now, on to business..... I tried both test packages. Even from a clean system. Ha. They still require me to replug... BUT.. I know longer get the annoying TR Wireless Utility that pops up. So, it is a minor improvement. But, what I did was.... Installed test packet 1. Restarted. Logged in and nothing changed. Rebooted again... still no change... had to replug. Rebooted again with -f -v. The system never booted again. I did something. I don't know what. Reinstalled and updated to 10.5.3. DID NOT install the driver... instead I just used your test package 1. Rebooted. Did not come on at start. BUT... the driver was installed. So we know your package DOES properly install the driver. When I replugged the Network Config popped up letting me know I had a new connection. I restarted again. Still had to replug. Restarted again. Still have to replug. Installed the second test package. Restarted. Still had to replug X 3 So, there you go. Ready for what ever else you have to throw at it. Thanks again for the help.

Euthenics
Managed to installed your combo update 10.5.3 v1.4a, Hardware Specs: Kalyway 10.5.2 CPU: Intel Pentium D 3.2MHz Motherboard: Intel 955XBK SATA HDD and ASUS DVD-RW So far only notice 2 things break. My sound card 9221A1 which by the way is only working partly before install this combo. Secondly, when I plug the USB in, nothing comes out on the desktop. But system profiler shows that it's working, able to detect my thumb drive. Previous version (Kalyway 10.5.2) no problem. Any idea on this issue? Image below: http://www.flickr.com/photos/28070410@N08/2610506615/ Apart from that, NVinject 128 (Fully working QE/CI/QGL), able to run a number of software applications but will need to test more and observe. Thank you for the combo update. Great work.
