Hi to everyone

interesting what's cooking around hire, :) Just I would like to ask if following what Master Gyjal show in this topic  could help to fix the 3G RAM problem with  Motion crash.

Everything was working fine before I upgrade from 2G into 4G RAM and now Motion and Livetype Crash when I try to open the application..and this is happening because the extra RAM.

Some applications only show 3G available when they opened and check the system, but System profiler show that I have installed 4G...so what's going on ? will this trick fix this problem ..?

Many Thanks

The 3GB limit in Adobe applications is because they are 32 bit only applications. As a 32 bit application, Photoshop (or any Adobe application) can only "use" 4GB of real memory -- a 1GB chunk for the application, leaving a potential 3GB of real RAM available for Photoshop to use for images.

There is no workaround until Adobe releases 64 bit versions.

Hmm, is there a correlation between this fix and my SATA DVD drive problem?

When disks are too long in the drive (sounds weird but is like that) i can`t unmount them and system crashes. I will try again my IDE drive this evening, if there is the same problem.

[EDIT] I put the Sata Dvd drive to the JMicron Sata Port and it works.

Gujal, any chance for a 10.5.6 update? The only thing that didn't work when I did the update was the icons. It looks like they have created a new version of each file again, so we're back to a new update. I'm not brave enough to try the old kexts, I have a low tolerance for pain today. LOL

Thanks for your time in the previous updates, it has been very much appreciated!

Okay, I decided to just do it anyway... installing the 10.5.5 kexts had absolutely no impact on my 10.5.6 install, other than working exactly as they did before. All icons show up correctly, and System Profiler correctly reports my ICH9-R AHCI as it did in 10.5.5.

I guess I should be more brave all the time... LOL

OK. opened the 10.5.6 update (not Combo) and found that both AppleAHCIPort.kext and IOAHCIFamily.kext have been updated. Have modified them to include the patch and have uploaded the new modified 10.5.6 kexts on first post

Cheers

kexts you posted for 10.5.6 is of old version, Vanilla in 10.5.6 has different higher version than you posted ?

I think it picks up the version number from the Info.plist file. The binaries are 10.5.6 but the Info.plist is from 10.5.5. Will correct it soon.

using p5k-e but the fix doesn't work and im stuck with orange icons in 10.5.6

The fix works fine on a standard install using any distro. Are you using Boot-132 with /Extra or Munky's method?

There is nothing wrong with the kexts posted other than the version number. They work fine
as soon as i copy the AppleAHCIPort.kext into /S/L/E i get a kernel panic. any help on that ?
Dont copy them manually. Use Kexthelper to install them and it works fine
kernel panic here too...waiting for the updated kexts.

i tried to change the version from 1.5.1 to 1.5.2 but still kernel panic...guess its something else or i have just missed something else...

OK. Uploaded the corrected kexts. Install them using Kexthelper to avoid panics

Worked for me again on 10.5.6 - good work!

Btw, i had a strange issue of getting silver disks with 10.5.5 without patched AppleAHCIPort or IOAHCIFamily:

Installed 10.5.0 with Boot DFE-132, then crossupdated to 10.5.5 > had orange disks. Then i made a disk image with Carbon Copy Cloner, went over to my other Mac Install and installed this Retail image with Disk Utility Repair option onto an other disk, reinstalled Bootloader, rebooted and had silver disks with recognized Sata controller! Strange.

What`s happening here?

Posted AppleAHCIport.kext 10.5.6 will crash the system because of Jmicron IDs

when this is used with other Vanilla IOATA etc

I removed Jmicron id now this works fine

thanks so much, i'll test that now.

didnt work out, i have kernel panic again.

Are you sure the SATA controller is in AHCI? It would be recognised as SATA Controller and Silver disks if it is in IDE mode. The orange icon and unknown AHCI controller issue is only when SATA is set to AHCI mode.

Can you let me know which kext is clashing. I am running Retail install and dont have panic. I would presume this JMicron definition would clash with AppleVIAATA.kext (which is not part of Retail install) and nothing else.

Thanks for your input
