Octocore Xeon Hackintosh

There is no Gigabyte MOBO supporting dual LGA1366. X58 doesnt support dual CPU installation at all - there is no second QPI link support for Xeon interconnection.

U need to use Intel 5500/5520 chipset MOBO in order to make dual Xeon setup.

I have got my new hardware yesterday: Asus Z8NA-D6C + Xeon X5570 + 6Gb DDR3. I will post later about my install, but only in single CPU configuration.

haven't done 10.6 yet on my dual xeon rig... but 10.5.7 runs great, stable, powerful....... its downright beefy.

Supermicro X8DTH-6F board,

pair of xeon E5520's

12GB of 6 channel ECC DDR3 1333

(Not working yet: 82576 NIC's.... or the onboard 6Gb/s SAS2....)

The models that use the LSI 1068e SAS controller should work fine.... (my drives are on a supermicro AOC-USAS-L8i card with a 1068e on it)

An example of a board with 82574L nic's... and the working sas:

http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherb...500/X8DAL-3.cfm

The X8DAL-i is same board, without the SAS controller....

Another option is the X8DTL-3 (with SAS.... or X8DTL-i for the non SAS version)

And the reason why the overclocked i7 920's geekbench higher, is because more than half of your geekbench score is based on single threaded performance... for those tests, it doesn't matter if you had 1 core or 1000 cores.

FURTHERMORE.. since BOTH memory sections of geekbench are single threaded.... and are not optimized for NUMA..... that also counts against the dual socket rigs on the benchmarks....

Hi

I too am building a nehalem octocore with an x8dtl-i board and cannot seem to get the network ports to function to save my life. you say the 82574L nic's are working, but how? i've tried every kext available but havent had a chance to patch the dsdt. years ago i built a fully functional harpertown octocore on supermicro x7dal-e board that worked completely out of the box in both leopard and SL without a single tweak but this board seems to be an entirely different story. If by chance you find a way to get the NIC's on your board to work would you be so kind as to post the solution? I've gone so far as to order a PCI gigabit ethernet card in the hopes that i can get networked that way--but that is still pending results. would you be able to send your dsdt file? i'm having trouble with a few other features on the board and have very little experience patching dsdts. i'd be happy to help you out with any snow leopard tips if need be. Thanks.
