Big Thanks to lastExile and Eps :thumbsup_anim:

What system did you do this with? I have a studio and if this is a last resort for me at least I would know......

Thanks, Mark

Works dandy for me and most others who have tried Ideneb on studio 17, its possible you have a bad distro of it, you might want to try downloading it again.  Just in case you are messing up something simple, I'll give a quick rundown of a very basic ideneb install.

Insert Disk

Press f12 to access boot menu on dell studio 17

Choose to install from CD

Hit Enter at prompt to start install

Wait a couple minutes for OSX installation screen to pop up, click next until you can get to the "select a drive to install on" (or whatever) screen.

At the top you will see a drop-down menu with stuff you can choose to do, go to the disk-utilities part.

Click the button to erase the drive you want to install osx on, and choose the Journaled filesystem as a format.

Close out of the disk utilities area.

Choose the drive to install OSX on, and install it.

You should be up and running when its all said and done!

thanks for replying. i have installed the ideneb sucessfully on an external usb drive, and it works perfect. Its just when i try installing native on the internal hard drive, boot1: error. so its not the distro and its not the install process. I will try more. As suggested in later responses, it may be the boot loader, which i have tried to fix and update using osx tools or dd . I will keep trying

thanks

The system is in the post signature (desktop) - the card only recognized as Mobility (I can fix by editing Natit Info.plist, but it doesn't matter).

I keep trying.

I've changed to two partitions - one for backup and restoration of files - the other for non stop effing up and breaking of OSX - Super fast for checking problems without worry for much, since at the very worst I can do a full out restore.

I've not come any closer unfortunately - I was hoping the fact that :

"The M86 is nothing more than the RV635 in disguise" would perhaps give me some leverage by using the rv635 key in natit, but it did nothing for me (for all I know that isn't supposed to do anything, I'm just grasping at straws, as I think most driver-problem people here are doing)

http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=c...6&Itemid=34

Also:

My card only recognized as Mobility (I can fix it by editing Natit Info.plist, but it doesn't matter).

First I installed drivers for 3650 from 1st post

ATI Radeon HD 3650 - Eps modified natit - Fixed ( Give thanks to Eps - Report back also !)

Device id 9598

and the install ATI_NEW over it and that's all...

Granted, this is for the 3650 non mobility cards, but I thought those of you who have the normal 3650 may be interested in the full-blown method he used to get things going.

Apple announced the other day there will be no new products before the holidays, so "waiting around" for new files to get the mobility 3650s going is a longshot as it is now.  If there are people in these forums that know how to get it to work - please speak up now, as I am doubtful I will find the solution myself!

PS:  Is there a way to force apple "macbookmacbookpro" update even though it wants to stop before even starting - I know the kext files are a good start, but I'd really like to try the straight-up install of the whole package if its at all possible (aside from firmware stuff if its there of course).

I haven't read your previous posts, but I think you need to install ATI Displays 4.5.9 ("Catalyst Control Center") to enable it, if there're no other solutions that I'm not aware of. If this isn't your problem, I'm sorry I couldn't help. My S-Video doesn't work either, but my problem is that the driver for my HD 2600 XT isn't supported by ATI Displays, so I will have to be patient and wait for a new driver to enable S-Video. If there is some other way to do this, please let me know.

What happens if you hit F12 and then when the boot menu comes up select internal HD?

Just a thought

Also I know in the past OS X had to be the first primary partition which partition are you installing it on?

i have tried that, hit f12 select the correct drive- i get the same result.

I have also tried installing on primary drive, f12 - select correct drive- same result

boot1: error

@LastExile

In another topic you asked a user if his garbled screen looked like disco balls in points/pixels. That's how it looks for me on the Sapphire HD 3850 AGP. Is this solely because it only has DVI and I use a DVI2VGA connector (would my screen look normal on a DVI-screen)?

Also, not sure if it matters, but vendor ID for my card is 174B (Sapphire) instead of 1002 (ATI). Dunno if it helps with the development, but hey.

^^/ I THINK I'M INTO SOME {censored}, WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN I GET HOME.

A step in the right direction - in toying with these kexts I found that the ID of the mobility and the regular 3650 somehow got swapped!  I'm not sure how much control the natit.kext file gives over things, but one odd side-effect of this, is that Javum, from a few posts ago, is having success with a REGULAR NON-MOBILITY CARD - using the MOBILITY M86 CHIPSET CONFIGURATION (if natit is controlling that, I'm new so I dont fully grasp all of this - but natit is listing it as M86 by an aparent mistake!).   I wasn't sure what all of this meant, so I went in and fiddled with some things, now I have files that will SHOW the proper card I'm using, but still wont enable Quartz Extreme or CoreImage (QE/CI).

FURTHERMORE - I noticed that the chipsets we are using are utilizing (again, according to natit) the MEGALODON {censored}, yet, in the "ati_new" files, there is no megalodon - so I went back and grabbed one linked in earlier posts, and pulled it out of the drivers and put it into the "ATI_NEW" stuff, and while it boots fine with no errors, I still dont have support for QE/CI.

Any Idea's from the champs out there?  Anything I can do to help move this along to a potential QE/CI support now that I have the mobility card being reccognized and not crashing the system?

Where do I take it from here?

I've hardly made progress, its the same as not having the card identified at all, if QE/CI dont work (which they dont) - I just found a typo in the natit, thats all - and I also realized the "ati_new" arent using the megalodon files, which are "listed" in the natit kext file - so I'm just confused and asking for help more than anything.

I am looking for a way to use the megalodon kext files - as the "ati_new" files for whatever reason dont have them in it, and when I drop the megalodon kext in it and install them via kext-helper, I dont believe its really activating anything different.

Javum managed to get it working, somehow, and he IS using the mobility drivers with megalodon kexts somehow (granted on a non mobility card - but its still using all the mobility driver settings so presumably it should work on the mobility) - I asked him how, got a response, and repeated what he did (he installed the eps version and then dropped the ATI_NEW kexts over it).  I gave about 60 different shots tonight to try and take this further, but made no real progress.  I'm beat and need sleep, and I can't think of anything that I can do personally to take it further right now without more files to work with or some more in-depth information on how this all works, right now its more like "If I stick these two pieces together will it magically work?".  I've tried contacting both EPS and LastExile, but I believe both feel it is a lost cause, as the main title of the channel they hang out in IRC has, right at the top "mobility does not work" - I'm pretty sure they are tired of dealing with stupid people like us asking the same questions over and over.

Someone mentioned there is a possibility of these new drivers being implemented in the 10.5.6 update, but I can't get my hands on the beta release of it - so unfortunately I can't try it.

I think I'll just take a break from this for a couple weeks, anyhow, good night and good luck!

Still hoping for any hints to my freezing problem. see signature.

I am happy to report that my ATI 2900 Pro is working fully with dual screen, res change, and QE/CI. :P It shows up in profiler as 2900 XT (Vanilla) with device ID 0x9400.

I decided to take the plunge instead of waiting for answers. I used the same ATI_NEW files and updated to 10.5.5. It is still a blur on how I got things to work.

- Initially after the upgrade, I deleted the same files in the extension folder and copied the new ones in. Repaired permissions and rebooted. Got screen full of snow and blocks. :P

- Then I tried the old kext files I backed up. Won't even boot into GUI.

- Then I tried copying back all the new kext except the natit.kext. Was able to boot normally but no QE/CI. :(

- Finally I tried the new natit.kext again except this time I did a chmod -R 755 * and chown -R root:wheel * in the extension folder. This time full QE/CI. :D

I think my mistake was I only did repair permission from diskutil which did not fix natiti.kext. :P Now everything works and no freeze problem at all. I suspect your problem may or may not be related to the graphics entensions. Maybe try it with older natit without QE/CI and see if the freeze still happens.

I need some help with my Saphire Radeon HD 3870 DDR3

I've been trying to make it work for several days now, literally spending nights awake, but no results (blank screen, black screen, blue screen of death without mouse, blue screen of death with mouse, half blue screen of death, half black with mouse...)

THe closer I could get was when I installed some specific versions Natit.kext only. My card was recognized, but no resolution change/ no opengl hardware support/ apple render, etc.

Today I've installed leo 10.5.5 (ideneb), along with leopard graphics update (kexts were taken from package using pacifist), followed by this ATI_NEW version.

To my surprise, the computer didn't hang! YAY!

And there really was a resolution change - it could support more resolutions. But that is all, unfortunately. Still no opengl hardware support, really bad fps's, apple render, etc.

I've tried installing opengl.framework that came with one of the numerous versions of Natit that I have, but no success at all.

I am running out of ideas. It seems to be so simple, sorry if I didn't see the info before, but I really have looked for it. A LOT!

How could I force my already recognized Saphire HD3870 to use its hardware with opengl?

Thanks in advance, for you all.

van

Yesterday I installed Natit.kext for my HD 3450 card on iDeneb 10.5.5 and I got full resolution but no QE/CI.

Because I need Quartz Extreme maybe I have to wait for the HD3450 package to get full support or I'm going to replace my card to supported HD3650 or HD3850.

Which card is better for hackintosh?

Aaaaatention guys! :-)

I have great news for HD 2400 Pro/XT users (and may be for some others)

Just got PCI-E HD 2400 Pro 256Mb on 10.5.5 (9.5 vanilla kernel) with resolution and QE/CI

hd2400gotcha.jpg

Here is solution in steps:

We need

1. this kexts (from 1st page of this topic)

2. Kext helper (u already have it i think)

3. Plist editor (u have it, or goooogle it ;))

At first install kexts, reboot and get working resolution, but without QE/CI.

2nd. Here the trick: go to the /system/library/extentions and find there ATIRadeonX2000.kext (!!!)

and dont change right that file, copy it on desktop (or somewhere else) and open copy (show package contents), find "Info.plist" and open it with plist editor. Find string with "IOPCIMatch", put there your id dev 0x94c31002 (thats 2400 pro id), save it.

Now, install this kext with Kext helper. Reboot. here is QE/CI
