hi to all,

now I'm givin a try to this whole Radeon Thing.

I'm planing to buy an Asus Radeon HD 3650 512MB DDR2 (EAH3650 SILENT MAGIC), because on the HCL HP it says that it should work, but here in this thread there are so many different comments and now I'm very confused! Do the 2 dvi's work? does OpenGL work?...

Shall I buy it or not?

Can s.o. admit, that this card works with kalyway 10.5.2 (and 9.4 vanilla kernel)!

thumps to the engineer,

and also thanks for your answers,

I updated to 10.5.6, added Device ID as described from lastExile himself above on this page (or on page 43 el_rocje), and my hd2600pro works perfect (i also play a little bit FlatOut 2)!

Biiiiig, very very big Thanx! :(

After update Leo to 10.5.6 on my ATI HD 2600 Pro - QE not working,

I go to the /system/library/extentions and find there ATIRadeonX2000.kext

and dont change right that file, copy it on desktop and open copy (show package contents),

find "Info.plist" and open it with plist editor.

Find string with "IOPCIMatch", put there your id dev 0x95891002 (thats HD 2600 pro id), save it.

Install this kext and reboot.

Now QE/CI is working :(

Big respect: el_rocje and madhias

After months of attempts, I have finally, finally gotten my 3850 HD AGP card running with full support. Many thanks to LastExile and Eps for their assistance.

In case someone else out there runs into the same issues I had (black screens) and has a similar configuration, I will detail my specs as well, as the steps I took to get the drivers working correctly.

Motherboard - Asus P4800-E

CPU - P4 3.0 Ghz

RAM - 4 gigs (4x 1Gb sticks)

Video Card - HIS IceQ3 Radeon 3850 HD 512Mb GDDR3 - AGP

Installer/OS: iDeneb v1.3 (running with the following custom setting)*

-> Sound Card: AC97

-> Intel controller: ICHx

-> Ethernet: skgext for Marvell

-> 9.4 modified kernel (Can't run the vanilla kernel)

** Many thanks to julesdu59 who posted these settings for iDeneb and saved me a LOT of trial and error time. **

1. Install iDeneb 1.3 with the settings listed above

2. Install LastExile's package installer "ATI Radeon HD 3850 - 10.5.x - 10.5.5" with Pacifist

3. Repair Permissions with Disk Utility

4. Replace "natit.kext" with Eps's custom one that he posted in October using Kexthelper

---> Please note: I had to alter the kext slightly before installing it to match up with my card. It originally listed my cards ID as 9505. I changed it to 9515.

5. Repair Permissions with Disk Utility

6. Delete both /System/Library/Extension.mkext (file) and /System/Library/Extensions/Cache/ (folder)

7. Repair Permissions with Disk Uitlity

8. Restart and boot into safe mode, -x at the command prompt

After this, everything should be running normally. When I booted into safe mode it automatically switched the resolution to 1920x1200. Also, as you can see, I repaired permissions a LOT. I don't know if its necessary, but I recommend it.

LastExile, you may want to look at the Natit.kext that installs by default. I never listed my card ID. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but I wanted to let you know. Maybe check with Eps, since he uploaded the Natit that ended up working for me.

I hope this post helps someone out there having problems.

Again, thank you!!!!!!!!!

I can confirm this works! (The GFXstring solutions allowed me to change the resolution, but I couldn't get QE/CI, the solution above DID give me QE/CI)I still have to test it more extensively, but the results so far are promising :P

My setup:

ASUS NCCH-DL

Ideneb 10.5.5

1.5 GB RAM

Sapphire HD3850 AGP

if you could find a page on freebsd drivers then yeah

and then cross it with quartz i mean good luck alot of work is involved here

or you could look at the code of the mac osx drivers

And while we are at it lets fix the economy too.

All I was trying to do was point the discussion in a different direction. So by your logic unless i'm a coder directly working on this I should just STFU. If I wasn't trying to make a living I'd spend Hrs working on this. That's not gonna happen. As it is there are probaly more similarties with the Linux drivers then there are differences.

Which installer would be best for a PCIe HD3850 256 (devID: 9505)? I hate to ask but its a bit confusing considering there are 3 installers which mention the 3850.

Basically whats going through my noob mind:

I have an amd setup soo possibly that one?

ATI Radeon HD Series for AMD Based setups

2400 Series 2600 series 38xx Series (More coming)

Download

I'm guessing not the agp one. pcie =/= agp. But the id of the upcoming link is the same as mine..

ATI Radeon HD 3850 AGP - 10.5.5

Device ID: 9515

(New link will be up soon or use natit for agp 3850 (Device id: 9505)

Or just go with the "Update:" one since thats probably the newest.

Update: try pkg for 2600 Pro & XT, 3850 & 3870 and maybe ( 2400 series ) also 3650 users try this Report back

Download here

Please make the overview with the bunch of drivers more fair to noobs!

It's hardly comprehensibly.

What about putting a device ID into an info file....?

---------------------------

p.s. still searching an affirmation of the asus 3650 512 ddr2 silent magic! Does it work, or not? Which drivers? The listed on the top of the overview?...

Does the ATi Mobility HD 2600 work...? I' completely confused, because my friend says that MOBILITY cards don't work as of now.

I've iATKOS 10.5.4 working, with no support for my ATi Mobility HD 2600 512Mb for now.

Any hope to hang on to?

Thanks for your hard work...HAPPY NEW YEAR ! ;)

I have the 95c5 EAH3450 (Not the mobility). It is the only newer lower profile card I could get for a resonable price. Is there any chance of getting this to work with QE? Is anyone looking into this? I still can't get 1920x1080 which is the resolution I need for my monitor working. Has anyone got at least that part working?

If no one is working on this can someone inform me what needs to be done and I can look into getting it working? Any and all help is appreciated.

Comments like "It will never work so just upgrade" are not helpful so please don't leave them. This is a decent card for everyday tasks that you can get for 20 bucks and I think it would be benificial to the community to get it working. I am willing to do the work if someone can point me in the right direction of what needs to be done.

What kinda a screen ? Disco screen, grey screen with stripes or colorful dots in a striped with a black background ?

I also have a 2400XT and when I did this I got a sort of checkerboard-esque pattern that seemed to actually have real screen data because it was blue and other colors but when I manages to attempt and login using the memory of the steps it changes to have different colors that looked to be simular to my background but very very very hard to be absolutly sure.

Working on PCIe 3850 256mb with Leopard 10.5.6 (Voodoo Kernel)

It works...but only about a quarter of the time. The other 3/4 is lbsopd - light blue screen of premature death.

specs in sig :D
