Hi guys (and dolls),

I'm trying to install Kalyway 10.5.2 on an external USB HD, installation goes smoothly in +/- 25 minutes.

On the first boot from the USB HD, OSX restarts after the "Transfer from another MAC"-screen.

I did the standard installation with the standard options ("sleep"-kernel), just added the standard NVidia driver.

My guess is that the reset is caused by an hardware incompatability, but since I'm new to this stuf, I have no idea where to look, let alone how to solve it.

I tried various boots with different options (-x, -v, ...) but I see no difference in the bootsequence.

Is this a "DELL"-thingy or is it caused by my lack of knowledge? ;)

My hope is the latter...

Cheers,

Frank.

I couldn't get Kalyway working on a E521 that I was working on for a bit, but I got the Leo4All (at the time it was v2) distribution to work on it pretty well. So, I'd have to suggest that one. The difference is that I think the E520 has an Intel chip, and the E521 has an AMD chip. Nonetheless, it should work if you keep at it. I don't have that computer around anymore, but the only thing I couldn't get working was the onboard Nvidia GeForce LE.

I managed to get running, but I have some issues with it.

- The onboard networkadapter (Intel 82562v) is not working, and after a lot of reading it is impossible to get it installed, I add a Realtek adapter and 'm doing a re-install as I'm typing this...

- The NVidia GeForce 7300LE is not working either, but this I will look into later once I have the network up and running.

If someone is interested how I got past "Transfer" screen, here it is:

startup with -s
/sbin/mount -uw
/passwd root
...type password...
touch /var/db/.applesetupdone
reboot

to be continued...

Quick update:

The NVidia GeForce 7300LE is working...

Still no network, even with the Realtek...

And no sound, forgot that in the first post.

So far, so good!

I'm typing this on my Leopard!

However, I didn't get the onboard nic or the Realtek or a Netgear nic working.

I just found an old nic which is recognized by osx without special intervention, unfortunaly there is no brandname on the card, so I don't have a clue what it is... but it is working.

Video is also ok, running dual monitors.

Now it's only sound... I have an old soundcard lying around, perhaps I'll give that a try...

Hey Frank

I have a dimension E520 running the Kalyway 10.5.1 and it is working fine. So my guess is that it is something with your setup. What is your hardware setup. Video Card etc? I also have mine on a external USB HD.
