Jenny
I'm really new to this so I guess this is a stupid question but I've really little experience with OS X. I recently installed OS X Tiger 10.4.4.X86 on my laptop and after some trial and errors I got the install working just fine. Well, almost anyway. Now I'm able to bood OS X on my computer as long as I've the DVD inserted to the CD-rom. There're still some things that doesn't work, I can't open my CD-rom drive in any way but clicking the eject button in OS X e.g. However, that's no big issue, the problem I've got now is the network. I installed OS X on an IBM Thinkpad R-40; Intel P4 1,9Ghz with a ATI Mobility Radeon X300 and 256MB ram. So far this works just fine, not complaining at all. But when I'm trying to use the net in any way I'm stuck. In the system information/network I can see a network card called Ethernet (on board) so it seems like the computer can find my card? I have like no idea how to se up the network but I can't fill in anything in my network perferences where I need to fill in my IP-numbers and so on. Anyone who can tell me what to do or know how to get the network working on an IBM Thinkpad R-40? Thanks in advance. In terminal: sudo -s chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions Reboot! intrax
Try it: Delete the Extensions.mkext and Extensions.kextcache in /System/Library. In terminal: sudo -s chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions Reboot! That will probably not do much good either... as I suspect your network card is NOT supported by OSX. Check the wikki to see what cards are supported... Jenny
I found those lines in another thread, of course I searched the forum before asking. I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong but first of all, it complains when I try to chown the directory. kextcache works fine, but after I've done it nothing happens - nothing works. I ran ifconfig and it says inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff00000 which obviously is wrong. I guess it won't help to set the IP manually with ifconfig. I have no idea what the name of the network card is. At this moment, OS X is the only installed OS on the computer. I guess I can find out what mobo I'm using and see what the on board network card is called... I'm not sure I will do any progress though. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10374-no-network-after-install/#findComment-64744 Share on other sites
