Balto
Hi everyone, I'm new here! The Aurora Screensaver actually runs like a loop video on Leopard's desktop, shimmering proudly with its magnificent glory! It reminds me of Windows Dream Scene. Download Quartz Desktop View Leopard's Aurora (To download, right-click on it once it has fully loaded and click "Save Composition...") Note: This post was originally titled to question about Apple's "movable" Aurora wallpaper found in Leopard as I thought it did move initially. I've since changed it to be something more useful as you can see now. Edited: May 8 2008, 4:54 PM Alright guys... *Tucks tails, crouches low, flattens ears, exposes throat and exposes belly* I'm terribly SORRY... Sorry for thinking that the original Leopard's Aurora Wallpaper did shimmer, perhaps I was too overjoyed to have Leopard on my AMD. When I went back to check, it appears as still as ever now! And sure enough, it's Aurora.jpg. Strangely, it really looks like it did move at first! But this leads to another question... Why didn't Apple make something like Dream Scene for Leopard? Leopard can't even animate a gif image on the desktop. Nevermind, there are issues like slowing down performance. Even I don't run Dream Scene as my everyday wallpaper. But wouldn't it be good to have something to impress others once in a while? Balto
00Diabolic, it does shimmer! Like what STLVNUM said. Thanks STLVNUM! At least I'm not the only one who knows about this. But haven't you guys noticed? Is this so rare? It's not a wallpaper that changes every interval. It started shimmering right-out-of-the-box! I believe the one during installation also shimmers! I've not played around with Leopard to find the actual file but I thought this was something most people knew about... in version 10.5.2. Hey VaporATX! What's OP supposed to mean? :glare: I wouldn't be posting {censored} in this forum catagory... Enyceexdanny, what is a "Quartz composer composition"? I'm still new here and couldn't be installing all sorts of stuffs that soon. 00diabolic
Same here. Share yours Balto and also yeah what is Quartz composer composition? Is that something you can turn on? Maybe that makes it work? I have CI/QE both enabled. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/103630-making-leopards-aurora-wallpaper-move/#findComment-739109 Share on other sites
Balto
Oh dear, not another abbreviation that I don't understand? What's CI/QE, 00Diabolic? I'd love to share but I'm currently on Vista. I'll need to make a hard drive switch to get to Leopard. Will do this real soon and investigate. Doesn't anybody else know about this!? Yesterday I'd purposely went to an apple retailer store and sure enough, the Aurora wallpaper on the iMac did shimmer! CI/QE stands for: Core Image: Hardware Accelerated Quartz Extreme: Supported Without them you lose a lot of the SE in OS X (haha special effects). Anyway I was thinking maybe you had something enabled i dont but I cant find anything like that in the desktop and screensaver menu or anywhere else i have looked. Either way I think maybe kalyway's version of that wallpaper might not be this so called shimmering one. I would like to get a copy of yours and see how it works. vaporATX
Well, I just extracted the wallpaper from a retail Leo image and it doesn't shimmer. Have to go to Frys tomorrow to pick up some parts, so I'll check out their display Macs and see if I see this shimmering. Personally, I think we're just being trolled... which is kinda funny. P.S. Currently I am not on anything, so I might not see any SE that you guys see. If I need to take anything, please let me know. Lenka-Penka
LOL! This shimmering effect, I think is related to the LCD screen imperfections, which have some laptops (in fact, most of them have it). Check out this DELL's wallpaper If you stare at it intensely, you would see that it shimmers a bit in the center. So even static JPGs can exhibit movement This effect may be more or less strong, it all depends on the quality of your LCD monitor. I don't see the shimmering effect anymore, on this Dell's wallpaper or the Aurora, but I can imaging how it would appear to shimmer on laptops. BTW, I'm using an LCD monitor and now whenever I go back and stare at the Aurora wallpaper, it's an solid as stone. I just... I just can't imaging how in the world did I first saw it shimmer! Aww darn its all a scam. I was hoping for some special effects. So I bet the people that thought it was shimmering had a reflective LCD screen and an imagination and the people that could not see it had a none reflective LCD screen and no imagination. OR something like that LOL. Mines reflective but I got good eyes and dont imagine so I guess I'm never gonna see it. Maybe i'll dream about it though. I'm beginning to hate the Leopard's Aurora Wallpaper! :glare: Why did Apple put in a wallpaper that appears to shimmer? Hmp... I don't use it anyway. I prefer the Grass Blades, it's beautiful! 00Diabolic, you need not imagine, just click on the view link above. But that's a very much larger movement compared to what I initially thought it was. Do you have earthquakes where u live maybe thats what it was.. ok i gotta stop making fun of this. LOL You know vista really does have moving wallpaper. It uses WMV files to do it though. I'm actually surprised OSX does not having something like that though. Be cool if it did.
