Installing Mountain lion on Asus G75VW

Hi People,

I am experiencing some problems to install Mountain Lion Using USB on my lappy. The problem is that it comes with 4 USB 3.0 and no USB 2.0. I was an owner of an Asus G53JW and could achieve a perfect Hackintoch but i'm kinda stuck with this one.

The problem is that when creating a USB installation key for Mountain Lion (either ###### or Myhack), it is detected in Bios but when i select it for boot it simply goes back to Bios.

My question is : Is there a way to achieve a Mountain Lion installation from a USB 3.0 ?

Would buying an additional internal hard drive, installing ML on it from another PC then plug it into the lappy a better solution or was it tested to no work?

Thank you very much.

you can make a Mountain Lion DVD google this or put the hard disk of your Laptop in other PC and install the system, or make a small Partition 10G in the hard disk Laptop and make a Installer MountainLion in other Pc, than put the hard disk inside another time, boot from the Installer and Install for other Parttion.

Thank you for your help guys. In fact i could manage to lunch from the USB 3 by :

Updating Bios to latest (ver 222)

Enabling PXE in Bios

Disabling Secure boot feature

Deleting NvdResman from the USB Key

Next steps to follow, any contribution would be welcome.

The USB 3.0 is correctly detected with the latest update 2.0 for new iMacs and MBPros but still freezes if anything plugged in, i'm still working on it. As for hotkeys it works with a wmi driver that i will post once in front of my lappy, but you need a DSDT to make it work, what G75vw version do you have? Maybe it can work with mine.

I have an Asus G75VW-NS71, Core i7 3610QM 12GB DDR3 and a GTX 670M w/ 3GB DDR3. I've successfuly installed 10.8.2 retail using the ###### installer from a clean retail ML purchased in the App Store.

Unfortunately, even after updating to BIOS v222, I do NOT have the option to mess with my EFI at all. I cannot disable secure boot, therefore I am stuck using the USB drive to boot my OSX install. I'm actually fine with that. I'm however, not OK with the graphics =/. My first install, it actually showed up with 3GB DDR3 and said the model number in System Profiler, but that install got corrupted somehow and wouldn't boot.

I'm on a clean install now, the only things I have done are:

-- ######

- ##### Installation

- 10.8.x OpenCL Patch and >2GB OpenCL Patch

- PS/2 Keyboard/Mouse

- GraphicsEnabler = No

- 1080p Display

Getting no love for loading the kernel extension. Definitely no hardware acceleration. If I open a new tab in Safari (by default) it goes to Top Sites and locks the browser and my machine up. Any flash content is unplayable and usually locks the browser.

Going to try the Sleep Enabler and Battery kext. I know VoodooHDA works for the VIA card in this machine.

If anyone has any recommendations for enabling hardware acceleration / modifying whatever .kext, please let me know, I'll be the guinea pig and have time to spare.

Good news ! Seems that the new update for Macbook pro (late 2012) work nativelly with our USB 3.0,disable Legacy Usb and put on ENABLED XHCI pre boot in bios ! Make sure to delete VoodooHDA before installing, and put smbios to Macbook pro 10,1.

Now waiting for any graphic enabler and WIFI !

Hey, i am dual booting using Chameleon. I purchased a second internal hard drive for mac and had to do a clean install of windows 8 (the original one was booting using Windows manager so no way to boot it from Chameleon). Had to fix the Boot0 error then it was OK after that. I tried a bit with Clover in my previous Hackintosh (asus G53JW) but i did not like it, too complicated and still buggy for now. Try your way with chamelon and it should be much easier. Let me know if you want help installing the way i did.

i think if you install Clover you dont have to fix the Boot0 error.

I don't wanna format 1st hard disk with hide partition Windows original. that's why i think efi is the best solution for awhile. Chameleon support efi also but we have to point this file efi in bios.

are you change wifi half size card?

i will order AR5B197 (support native AR9287 + AR3011) with 300Mbs but AR3011 is bluetooth 3.0 (12$ on ebay). do you have any suggestion ?

Honestly i can't really suggest anything from that side, since i always focus on software solutions instead of hardware ones. In addition it was reported that the Wifi adapter was not easy to access on this laptop, so good luck !

As for clover, i tried recently to install it on my 2nd HDD with Mountain lion but was stuck at boot 1 error, tried to fix it with the boot 0 tutorial but not working, i could not even find any EFI partition on my HDD after clover installation ( with my previous Hack it was created), so if you have any suggestion for a clean boot with clover i would be grateful.

can we modify kext AR9285 for AR9485?

after install OSX on 2nd HDD, you would install clover.pkg

i dont think Clover create un new partition, clover just create boot folder EFI and file CLOVERX64.EFI. In bios you have to point to this file by add path efi. I stuck here. i dont know letter driver, i try fsx2:/EFI/Cloverx64.efi it doesn't works

Hi, i don't think we can modify the kext to accept the 9485, the only solution could be to flash the 9485 to make it look like a 9285 (honestly, this can screw up the WIFI device). As for clover, i've been trying with clover v95x (don't remember the version number), and the only solution to get it boot to clover menu is by installing the boot0hfs option with the 32 bits boot (using the 64 bits will give boot 1 error). At this point ML never boots and gives me a kernel panic each time (tryed pretty much all the options but noway). I even suspected some other kext that would interfere with clover, so did a clean install then i get the same thing. Hopefully this will be fixed with another version or an idea i'm not aware of. Also did anyone try the new 12d50 update to see if any better news for the graphic drivers ?( for the 660m GTX).

I recently tried more deeply with clover, here are my conclusions :

In order to get an EFI boot with clover, we need to format the OSX HDD as GUID, this is the only option to get <Add a new boot option> in our Bios. It was pretty simple this way, i disabled the Windows HDD then added \EFI\BOOT\CLOVERX64.efi (without the fsx:\) and it worked ! Went right to Clover Menu BUT the OSX partition is not detected then (because of GUID) = dilemma !!

Formated the HDD as MBR then i tried a Boot0HFS option in clover with the 64 bit boot = boot 1 error + noway to fix it in my case.

Tried Boot0HFS option + 32 boot = boot 0 error and could fix it by booting from the USB key, unmounting my OSX partition then typing in terminal :

dd if=/Volumes/"USB key Name"/usr/standalone/i386/boot1h of=/dev/diskXsY

The X and Y values can be determined through INFO for the OSX partition you unmounted.

Now i can boot with clover and see my OSX parition BUT i get kmem_Suballoc kernel panic, i removed one 4 Gig memory stick (i originally have 12 Gigs) and i could get rid of this issue and boot to OSX BUT it take double the time to boot (40 sec at <waiting for DMOS>). Once lunched, i can see the 8 Gigs of memory in activity monitor.

The conclusion is : is it worth it ? A good thing is that we don't need to patch AICPM with clover, simply checking the option (patch AICPM prevents the KP).

I aready generated all the SSDTs (31 files) and DSDT, put iMac 12,1 as SmBios to get 4 CPU states (x12,x23,x24,x32). Still in Cinebench for CPU i get 4,5 (in Windows it is 6,5), anyways even with Chameleon it is the same problem for CPU.

We'll see if we can get native CPU power management with the next apple update, since then i am stopping my experimentation until i see somewhere : Nvidia 660m GTX Working !.

i tried last week with new ISO Mac OS X 10.8.2 Clover EFI (i forget links but you can google it) and AKTOS ML 10.8.2 it can setup smoothly but after that i can't reboot to mac.BIOS show USB boot EFI Clover i can boot but it freezes At Systime Uptime In Nanoseconds.it works fine with another boot Chameleon (http://kat.ph/os-x-1...s-t6526209.html). I will try your guide this weekend. I tried to fix AppleHDA.kext but it doesn't work. My Nvidia GTX 670M works fine with GraphicEnable=Yes, i think GTX 680M support also native, you can try with beta version 10.8.3

I updated 10.8.3 beta from AppStore it works, i think it boot faster than 10.8.2

So here's the deal. I got Clover installed and it boots flawlessly. I was having the problems most of you had with only being able to boot with a USB drive. I personally have a SSD dedicated to OS X. What I did was install ML on that (GUID HFS+ partition).

--Then I used EFI tools to create my EFI Fat32 partition (this should do it) Then, since all we're doing is EFI booting, all you need is the correct drivers in the EFI folder on the EFI partition.

--I found that this package works well. Simply download and extract to your EFI partition.

--You may need to add Clover to the boot options in the BIOS. Simply go to boot and "Add new boot Option" Give it a name "Clover" then select the device (usually the only one listed if no usb devices are there). Then for path enter /EFI/BOOT/CLOVERX64.efi) and add. Should then be able to boot.

Hopefully that helps you guys out. I haven't played much with it, but I have the 670m so everything seems to be working so far. (no audio). I'll mess around with it tonight when I get back from work.

Cheers!

Quick question, did you have issues with "Waiting for DMOS" that increases boot time by at least 30sec using Clover ? How much RAM do you have ?

I have 16GB (all reported by the system after clover boot).

I had the DSMOS issue, but it was because I deleted FakeSMC.kext and it just didnt boot at all. As for your problem, try hitting space at the startup screen and selecting the "use kexts" (or whatever). That will rebuild your kext cache. If that doesn't work, perhaps try a different FakeSMC? Also, my boot time is quick and probably not comparable to yours since I have a SSD drive booting.

I did notice I have to tick the "Patch AppleCpuPM" though for it to boot. I also just have legacy usb on and xhci disabled. I don't have any usb 3 devices so this isn't a problem for me, yet.
