is there a dsdt edit to fix sleep or a way to get the webcam to work?

For the webcam, try macam (google it).

 

Some people have gotten their webcams to work in OS X by running Windows in a virtual machine and starting some app that uses the webcam. Then it works in OS X afterwards.

okay so i tried macam and that didn't work so i guess ill have to try the virtual machine. So what about sleep any sucess in this..dsdt?...kext?

It depends on what's causing sleep not to work, and it can be very difficult to track down.

Sometimes it's the video card, sometimes it has to do with CPU Power Management, sometimes it's USB.

A DVD drive that doesn't have the ACPI features that OS X wants implemented in its firmware can also block sleep from working. It could also be wrong BIOS settings. Where to fix it (DSDT or Kernel Extension) depends on where the problem is.

 

Another thing, from what I've read over the years on the forums, HP generally seems to write exceptionally bad ACPI code for some reason, making their DSDT tables difficult to patch.

 

But don't let that discourage you.

 

What happens when you try to enter sleep mode?

 

Normally one of two things happens when S3 sleep doesn't work on a Hackintosh - either the PC wakes instantly, or you get a black screen and a non-responsive system, while the case fans continue to spin. I've also had a 3rd and very brutal variation happen when entering S3 sleep; video card fan would spin up to maximum rpm, then the system would hard reboot and reset the BIOS to its default settings.

 

If you're lucky you can find something in the logs - run console.app and check system.log or kernel.log - use the search function to find the word 'sleep'.

 

Also try googling and forum searching for a patched DSDT for your laptop, try to find other users with the same or similar HP laptop, maybe someone has sleep working.
